I need help selecting a complementary console for my PS4

I have an Xbox One and ended up getting a WiiU. The overlap between the PS4 and Xbox is just to great. WiiU has enough different to set it apart.

Xbox One,

There are enough exclusives to warrant the purchase. Also late 2014/2015 looks promising.

But as you stated you love Nintendo go with what you want

I'd go with either a Wii U or a handheld.

On the exclusives front, Wii U's future is looking much better. Xbox One just has too much overlap in 3rd party games with the PS4 right now. I'd buy a Wii U now and pick up an XBO years down the line when it's cheaper.

I own a PS3 and a 3DS, but PS4 > Wii U > Vita > Xbox One is my order for buying my next systems.

WiiU.

As someone who owned a Ps3 and 360 last gen.... it's just not worth it. Much of the game catalog is the same and even the general "focus" and services from each console feel the same.
Plus most exclusives are within the same type of game. More "mature" focused, lots of shooters and online stuff.

The WiiU might not get as many games, but most of them are just really different from what you get on Ps4/X1.

Stuff like Mario Kart, Mario 3d Land, Donkey Kong and Wonderful 101 feel more unique and help to diversify the games at your disposal

There's a lot of people doing the Wii U + PS4 combo! Glad I'm not the only one. I only have a Wii U so far, I'll get a PS4 before the year ends.

Wii U for sure, I have to be honest, I havent touched my PS4 since purchasing a Wii U not too long ago and finding it hard to play anything on the console, maybe when Destiny drops I will get back on it but even the anticipation I had for that game is starting to wear, Nintendo is great right now.

most definitely a wii u. getting an xbox one when you've got a ps4 seems redundant. unless you're absolutely crazy about xbox exclusives.

Bayonetta 1 & 2, Zelda Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D World, and Pikmin 3 would all be wonderful, contrasting, superb gameplay.

How much time can you really devote to gaming anyway?....

As I owner of all three consoles, I would say get all 3 as soon as you can afford it.

That being said, the first console I'd give up if I had too would be the Wii U. It gets used the least by me.

Its a great console with great games, but most are best enjoyed with a local group gathered around the TV. Not something that happens everyday. Super Mario 3D World is the only game that really is a most own single player experience right now, (Bayo 2 is coming this year as well though.)

Xbox One, despite having an overlap of third party titles, offers some great exclusive that have taken up way more of my time then the Wii U games.

Titan-fall and Killer Instinct are great timesinks. (Ryse is only worth a rent) Sunset Overdrive is coming soon, and looks to have a lot of hours of content + replay value. And don't get me started on how many hours worth of gameplay Halo: MCC is going to bring to the table.

My advice: if you can't afford both, buy a Xbox One this year, get a Wii U next when Zelda U is closer to launch.

The Wii U. This isn't even a debate. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong. PS4 and Xbox One share enough titles for you to consider just one or the other (unless you have money to own both), whereas the Wii U is shafted by third parties, so you know you're getting an entirely different experience.

Wii U, no contest

I'll jump on the PS4 when more good games that I want come out. I leaned that the hard way with the early life of the Wii U.

I'm in the same boat as well. Both consoles have exclusives I want to play. Wii U has Zelda U, WW HD, and Smash Bros while the Xbox One has Sunset Overdrive, Halo, and Forza Horizon.

So far only ONE clear recommendation for Xbox One...coincidence, I think not...

Anyway, if OP doesn't now get a Wii U I see no point in this thread though haha.
The Xbox 1 has a handful of exclusives, but really, a majority of content will be available across both XBone and PS4.

Wii U is so vastly different that it warrants a purchase. It will have a majority of exclusives vs multiplats instead of the other way round. It's also cheaper. If you get it, do so before end of the month to claim free game with Mario kart.

You also didn't say what console you had last gen, 360, PS3, Wii?

Wii U.

It has games you won't find on your PS4. And that same PS4 will get multiplatform games + exclusives. The only reason for you to get an Xbox One is if you really want to play Halo, or any other Xbox exclusive.

As usual, if it has games you want to play on it, and they are not coming to anything else, then it's worth owning.

I'd definitely go Wii U. I have an Xbox(just calling it Xbox like I did my 360 cuz it's current gen, deal with it) and Wii U. Great combination, just picked up Pikmin for free with the MK8 promotion and man what a great game it is. You couldn't find another experience like that on another console if you tried.

Currently looking for a reason to get a PS4 aside from it being the most powerful.

Everyone said it already, wii u. It's taken a long time to build up its library but it's finally there. Buying one myself to complement my PS4 this fall when Bayo 2, Hyrule Warriors and Smash hit. Already have 5-6 games lol. I want the Xbone when Halo Collection hits, but it has a weak exclusive line up for me. If I bought the Xbone at the end of the year I'd only have Halo Collection, Sunset Overdrive and Horizon 2.

Wii U will have more high quality exclusives than Xbox by far.
I'm also doing PS4 & Wii U this gen and am perfectly happy.

I guess Wii U. X1 has too many similar experiences to PS4, which are mostly simply better on PS4. Big game on X1 for me really, which makes it worth the X1 alone for me funnily enough, is the Halo Master Chief Collection and probably Halo 5. The other things I'm interested in are simply bonuses, not so sure its worth an X1 for them alone yet. If you're arent a big fan of Halo, probably isnt worth an X1, that and it may only be something to enjoy in the short term.

Wii U however simply has experiences you can't get elsewhere, so makes the most sense to me, like Pikmin 3, TW101, Zelda, Mario Bros, Mario Kart. Then theres Smash Bros., Xenoblade, and Bayonetta 2 coming soon. Theres definitely more on Wii U I'm hyped over compared to X1 for me.

You save you love Nintendo games so I say go with the WiiU. Nintendo really does a good job of incorporating nostalgia into there games so that lifelong fans of Nintendo will be incredibly happy with the platform

However something to consider about the XB1 is if you will be wanting to take advantage of its kinect/TV features

Wait until Xmas OP to make your decision. There's going to be a lot of shit for the PS4/Xbox, not to mention the Xbox had a handful of exclusives coming out this fall.

Also, don't forget IDX for devs will be online soon.

It seems you have a strong fixation on killing time when it comes to video games, and not having fun? I wish I had that. I have no time to kill, but still need concentrated fun sometimes, which is why I would recommend the Wii U as the secondary.

Either that or they just really know how to make good games.

Hello Gaf.

I am in search for a second console to my PS4 so either a One for a Wii U. I been torn over the past few days and can't decide what to do. I love Nintendo games, but as of right now the only games on Wii U that interest me are Mario 3D World, DKC, and Yoshi Wolly World. For the One its TitanFall, KI, and Soon to be Sunset Overdrive. I know the Xbox One has all the games PS4 does as far as 3rd Party but the games I mentioned before are really dope in my eyes as for Nintendo I am getting a diff experience. Price is not an issue, but I can't decide which one.

thanks.

WiiU. Mario Kart 8 is a blast, 3D World and DKC are givens. Pikmin 3 is actually pretty cool, even if you havent tried the series before. Then there is Shovel Knight (unless you have a PC). Legit good games.

Nintendo has been the go to compansion console since...well the 32bit generations i'd imagine.

If you like Nintendo games then the Wii U is a great choice. Nintendo's own titles are as strong as ever on the system.

Since the Wii U basically survives on exclusives and first-party content (with things like indie games being a bonus), it's probably by far the best "complement" to any other console. If you're looking for something secondary, why not go where there's very little overlap in terms of compelling content?

Wii U.

And I'm thrilled that so many others agree.

yeah I'd say WiiU since it would give the most variety

same goes for people who just have a XO and wish to get second console... get a WiiU

PS4 and XO will have a lot of similar overlapping qualities

Price is not an issue, but I can't decide which one.

I work full time, and I'm married, so don't have a lot of time either. But I still like getting the most for my money. So I meant more hours of fun, not just killing time. Playing games is after all, above all, fun. The amount of time spent on a game makes the money more worth it to me and keeps me coming back to the console.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Wii U too. I'm just having more fun and spending more time with my X1. I play all 3 consoles regularly, but the Wii U just gets the least amount of use right now. My real advice is to buy all 3, since I think that they all have game experiences that can't be missed.

My post was more of 'If I had to pick" post. But really, choosing between my 3 little consoles would be like picking children. They are all great. The X1 really surprised me. I was in the PS4/Wii U boat until I bought one after the price drop. It really is a great console.

I guess when it comes down for it, get the second console that has the games you want more.

I think, when all of the good the 2015 Wii U games release, the Wii U will become the definite complementary console to the PS4 or Xbox One.
