Yet... You're here...
Well, usually doesn't mean always
Uhh what?!?! So you had an XB1 and a PS4 and traded both in to get another XB1? This makes 0 sense. Why would you do that? Just trade in the PS4 and buy some games for your already purchased XB1.
Technically, this isn't an NPD thread. It's a "Xbox One more than doubles sales" thread.
Don't expect me to be posting in the NPD thread tomorrow. I've seen how those usually go. They literally turn into battlegrounds.
You had to purchase a PS4 or XB1 to get the 50% extra credit from Gamestop. Basically I had to return the first XB1 to get my cash back. The XB1 I got in June was purchased with the PS4 credit.

Quite a lot like this? Maybe some boredom for a dozen or so pages as we wait on the leaks
Only sucks if you're on the losing side lol.
So this means what exactly?, did it beat Sony?
When you consider that the Xbox One is a billion-dollar product in terms of its budget:
- $1 billion claimed to have been spent on games development
- $400m NFL deal,
- $100m on controller alone
- Several hundred million on marketing etc
Selling around 160k a month in June (when May was 77k and July likely to be less than June) in your strongest market is pretty f*cking godawful. Especially from a shareholder POV. I mean damn.
Do you just hate money or something? Good god man just sell the shit on craigslist or ebay and get a decent return instead. You basically just threw your money away.
Wait a minute, he's using a 20+ year anthology to try and say MCC will rocket XBO ahead in NA for the gen? It's not even necessarily the fact All-Stars was in a market with completely different conditions, or the fact it's really old, that's the issue.
The issue there is All-Stars didn't propel SNES ahead of Genesis from what I remember, not for any more than what would've been a month. It's pretty well known SNES didn't start routinely outselling Genesis in the U.S until DKC...and that was Christmas 1994, when that gen was pretty much done.
C'mon B, you can pick a better example than that.
I've seen you mention All-Stars numerous times in numerous threads as your evidence that MCC will cause the Xbox One to skyrocket in popularity.
Thing is, SNES was already doing quite well by the time that game came out. I don't see how All Stars selling well on a system that was selling well 20 years ago equates to MCC causing the Xbox One's sales to shoot past the PS4.
This is where I think the rapid deals, stealth price cuts etc. have actually been hurting the system's image more than helping it. The public is pretty accustomed to knowing a healthy console doesn't see major deals and price cuts mere months after it's come out. The only exception to that has been the PS3, and that system didn't start doing very well until pretty late last gen. That gen was also longer than usual.These. It would also show consumers that Microsoft is desperate & that their product doesn't hold a lot of value.
History has proven that price drops doesn't matter much in the long run for a struggling console. Remember what happened with systems like Dreamcast? Original Xbox? Gamecube? Yeah.
Not exactly relevant to NA, but it shows that marketing expenses can really ad up.

Was this pun intended?!
I don't recall exactly where, but I remember reading they spent like 20 million in marketing just in Spain, and ended up selling very few X1s. Not exactly relevant to NA, but it shows that marketing expenses can really add up.

.
Well, if that's true, I can see why Xbox PR teams are on the chopping block, if recent reports of cutbacks at MS are correct.
I've never used it as "evidence that the Xbox One will skyrocket". I simply referred to Super Mario All Stars due to the Halo Master Chief Collection being a remake collection, that's exclusive, has four games. and will more than likely sell well (like Super Mario All Stars). Nothing more. I can't think of any other game since then that fits that description.
Also, I've said multiple times that it's a toss up whether or not it will help the Xbox One beat PS4 in November NPD. Find it interesting how you remember me bringing up Super Mario All Stars when talking about Halo MMC, but yet seem to think I've said that the collection will cause XB1 sales to skyrocket (which I haven't said at all).

Heh, I was never using it as a example in that fashion.
::shakes head::
where the retail indications saying the XB1 doubled sales too?

Plenty of indications that Xbox One received a jolt this month.
I predicted a 77K -> 138K jump in the prediction thread, and the average GAFfer predicted a 77K -> 144K jump.
Why?
But by your own tacit admission, SMAS just "sold well", so either you're aware it didn't propel SNES ahead of Genesis (in that case why really mention it at all, when you know why most people mention MCC in threads about XBO sales?) or you mentioned it thinking in some way it'll put XBO ahead. Bringing in the comparison just b/c they're both remakes of four games and exclusive to their systems is kind of a non-factor to do that.
And to your other question: Sonic Jam, Sega Saturn.
I actually think the $399 Xbox One ends up looking way worse than the $499 with kinect. at $399 with no kinect and being less powerful than the PS4, it just makes the PS4 the obvious choice where as with the kinect version at least there's one differentiator that you have to consider
I really wish we didn't get the results more than half way through the month. You would think in the digital age we would have the results within the first week of the new month.
I know man....this is what i been saying since the price drop. MS should of just ate the cost and included the kinect at the 399 price because like you and a few others said along with what i been saying...it makes X1 look far less appealing now.
Mmm, I dunno. Master Chief Collection, Halo 5, Sunset Overdrive, and the new Crackdown have potential to make the console look pretty appealing. We'll see what happens.

I've mentioned it as a collection series that helped sell systems. Nothing more than that though when it comes to the area of sales.

So you bought a PS4. Then you bought a XB1. Then you traded in both the XB1 and the PS4 for another XB1? Or am I reading this wrong?
I'm expecting Sunset Overdrive to bomb pretty hard at retail. The market is super competitive this fall and it's a brand new IP that might immediately get written off as too cartoony by a lot of people. So I'm not sure I'd rely on it to drive sales much at all.
Halo 5 isn't out for another year at least and by then itll be too little too late to help MS
Sunset Overdrive is a new and untested franchise. The last new, untested franchise MS had was Titanfall and we all know how that turned out.
Their last new IP bombed.Ordinarily I'd agree with you, but it's Insomniac. They have quite a history of quality titles under their belt.
So what's left on the chalkboard? Is it Halo MCC or Sunset OD?

Why will next year be too late to help Microsoft? This console generation is going to last 5-6 years. We haven't even passed Year 1 yet.
And I must point out Titanfall is still charting.
Nobody's perfect. Everyone's allowed a bomb.
Found the article: http://www.rtve.es/noticias/2013111...nes-euros-lanzar-xbox-one-espana/794100.shtml
So 20 million Euros launching the X1.
And according to this: http://blog.es.playstation.com/2014/01/31/charlamos-con-james-armstrong/
PS4 sold 134,000 first month in Spain (with 181k up till the point of the aritcle), They also state they've outsold the X1 about 5 to 1, and in a certain week even outsold it by as much as 15 to 1. Assuming the X1 sold about 1/5 of the PS4, that's about 36k up till the date of the article. That would mean they spent 555 Euros in marketing for every X1 they sold. That's insane!
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Not enough to help Xbox One sales.
My point was I don't see why next year or even the year after that will be too late to help Microsoft. Is the console going to magically disappear at the end of this year if they don't start beating Sony?
Sony is already 4-5 million ahead of MS worldwide (~600K in the US)
By next year barring some massive shake up the numbers would be AT LEAST double that.
