MS: Xbox One June 2014 sales more than double May 2014's sales

Microsoft sold 83.7 million Xbox 360's as of April and Sony has sold over 80 million Playstation 3's, and we're quibbling over 4-5 million after less than a year?

You realize a 4-5 million gap right now means an even bigger gap years from now. The X1 isn't going to be doing a PS3 style comeback. Also, I'm pretty sure the PS3 has passed 80 million by now, that figure is old.

Sony caught up because they had the rest of the world on their side.

If MS continues to lose in their best markets (US + UK) what country or continent can they turn to who will reliably help them catch up?

This false equivalency needs to stop. Sony's ability to catch up in WW sales is a testament to the Playstation brand only, not Xbox.

Man, I guessed 78k in the NPD predicition thread based on local retail outlets and Amazon's best seller list. Looks like I'm way off.

That's an interesting hypothesis, but unless one of us has developed a time machine I don't see how any of us is going to know how this will all play out.

EDIT: Good lord, my grammar...

But to avoid the gap becoming larger, sales momentum would have to reverse worldwide, something that isn't going to happen. I'm not sure how you can blithely cite end of gen numbers when the situation is worlds apart from the start of the last gen.

Probably because I'm not going to begin to claim that I can see into the future.

You never know. It could start bridging the gap if Microsoft started aggressively pricing. I'm talking pricing the Xbox One $100 or more less than the PS4. I think that'd make a difference. Though Sony does have some very strong mind share right now, and is coming out with some very strong exclusives in 2015, even from the very beginning (Order 1886 and Bloodborne Feb/March combo).

You DO realize MS, unlike Sony, does NOT have have the world market to fall back if they do bad in the US/UK right?

Besides that, he DOesnt realize that the "only" 4-5 million gap is like twice or 100% more rather than the 6% gap he's bringing as a reference point.

Yea, you never know, but the only way the X1 will be able to keep up with the Ps4 is if it maybe starts outselling the PS4 2 to 1 and rises from the dead in Europe. I don't see that happening unless theirs some very drastic action. Like, a $200 price cut or something.

True, but that's why it's called speculation.

That's what makes speculation so fun.

However, it's easy to predict the outcome. Despite being monstrously ahead in the USA and UK, 360 still landed 3rd place worldwide last gen.

Now, having lost the sales advantage in USA and UK, it is easy to see that PS4 will outsell X1 worldwide again. Unless someone can suggest how X1 intended to make up the difference in USA+UK by selling better in...another market?

But can you look at the past global performance of the two systems and make an informed prediction about the future? I don't have to travel twenty minutes in the future to know that if I put cookies in the oven for that long, they'll bake. I may not be able to tell you exactly what shade of brown they torn, or exactly how gooey or firm they are, but I can reasonably predict that they will be mostly round, aromatic, and warm.

Nobody's perfect. Everyone's allowed a bomb

It's not just their last game that didn't do well. Since Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time their titles have taken quite a hit in quality. They are far from being able to get by based only on their past success. They have something to prove.

Code:
      Meta-
Year critic Game
====  ====== ===================================
2006 (86) Resistance: Fall of Man
2007 (89) Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
2008 (76) Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty
2008 (87) Resistance 2
2009 (87) Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time
2011 (83) Resistance 3
2011 (70) Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One
2012 (63) Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault
2013 (65) Fuse
2013 (76) Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus

Not if you don't turn the oven on! Checkmate, atheists.

Now you're just making me hungry for chocolate chip cookies.

Their games have been bombing for years. R3 fell flat on it's face. FFA and A4O were terrible, Fuse was awful, Into the Nexus was average at best.

ACiT was their peak. Now, that's not to say they won't succeed with SO, but at the moment I think it's safe to have some doubt.

This. They're like studios such as Platinum Games in which most of their games don't hit big in sales (and most of the games that Platinum made are even better than Insomniac's as of lately).

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time was Insomniac's last good quality game. Their quality has declined ever since.

Oh boy I just hit mark all forums read by accident...

Same happened to me back a while ago.

There's nothing wrong with rooting for the underdog. Besides, I was an Xbox 360 owner last gen so I don't feel like I want to completely abandon them just because they're stumbling. That's not who I am.
On a side note, isn't the Wii U the underdog now? Or soon to be anyway.

Same.

I'm going to go chew on my pillow and go to sleep.

Then you should be rooting for the Wii U

And you talk about MS like they're your friend. Won't abandon when they stumble?

Yeah I was too, bought a 360 before my PS3 even....yet I don't really care if Sony or MS "win"...because they're corporations.

I thought about this long and hard (and by long I mean about 3 minutes), and I've come to the conclusion that I don't think Xbox One will outsell PS4 during MCC's month. Maybe I'm crazy, blind, and stupid, but I just don't see it happening.

Isn't it more like a dead skunk? Sales-wise I mean

Nintendo is the dog that got run over by a pickup truck and is now stink ing up the street and being fed on the occasional scavenger.

Damn...those burns...lol.

Sales wise US is the new Europe
Europe is the new Japan
Maybe Japan becomes the new US?
