No, it will download the entire thing on its own. When the game is "Installed", it is still downloading in the background, even if you don't start it.

I just found out you don't need to open the game to download it. It will download in background if you don't.

Quit the game, press options, and select 'Information' and you will see the current download status.

That's great, but don't you have to start the client first to get that going? I had to agree to something after starting the client before it showed the Transferring Game Content status.
