Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 10: Against the Odds, We Choose to Hype!

Except Falco plays quite differently from Fox in every game they have been in...so maybe you will have to suck it up when its revealed they didnt change his moveset from Brawl at all. Including their shitty attempt to change up his reflector.

People always say "X character is totally different!" Sorry, but Fox and Falco have an absurd amount of similarities. Are people going to say Lucina isn't a Marth clone because she is shorter and her sword works differently? I want characters to have more than just technical differences. Look at how different Mario and Luigi are in Brawl compared to what they were in SSB64.

Also Sakurai I demand this trophy return in SSB4.

Holy shit is that suit extremely bulky. I'm glad they finally changed her suit to a sleeker design.

Dixie is one of those characters that seems like they should be really obvious. And yet...

I dunno, I don't expect her to be in. Maybe as a Diddy alt, which would still be a disappointing waste of potential.

Infinitely more likely than K. Rool. That would be a wtf-tier inclusion in my book.

I think they're talking about Smash's original conception before Sakurai decided to use Nintendo characters instead. He made a ridiculously smart decision.

Well, if they didn't went with a direction to including nintendo characters, then I'm pretty sure that the overall quality would be better than that picture. THAT picture is really rough concept.

Sorry if this has been brought up before, but have any of you been following this thread by any chance? I'm a sucker for rumors and this has been entertaining to follow to say the least lol

Fake. Sound worker don't really know that kind of information, and he gave it away so easily. Telling everyone how he got fired made it easier for company to identify who is the leaker. It's stupid overall.

Fox and Falco may have a lot of similarities but their play style is completely different, which is what matters in the end.

If Lucina has faster moves than Marth with less knockback, damage and lag compared to Marth's now improved power, she's going to play completely differently as well.

Easy Target to disprove. I can't really emphasize how I love leaks with early disproven date.

My friend's cousin's mother's former roommate said that Ridley, K. Rool, Shulk and Mewtwo are all going to be playable in the game, and, as her proof, she said Wario's going to be revealed yesterday.

Do you think Smash would've been better or worse if they kept it down to three special moves like in the original?

Was thinking about this today (for a little fan project I'm doing...movesets for a imaginary "Sega Smash Brothers"), and I think it would've been interesting if, for example, they just kept the B-Special.

No, I think I would rather to have 4 special moves over three special moves now. I guess Melee to Smash 4 spoiled me so much.

LOL

How quickly do you guys think the Smash OTs will settle down once the games come out? With all of the characters known, I'd imagine we'll see a sharp decline in posting. Should be interesting to see where this leaves the WiiU version by comparison to the lead-up to the 3DS version.

Well, Its always like that in all fighting games. Once characters speculation and hype are done with, then it will go down with strategies, matchmaking, etc. Few months after the game got released, then it probably would slow down. Unless Sakurai surprise us with DLC announcement then the speculation will restart again.

Apparently FE:A was going to be the last game due to decreasing popularity or something.

That explains all the references. If the game was going to be the last in the series it should be a celebration of its history.

I really wish they would celebrate it by doing an official localization or remakes of FE2-5. The fan translations are nice but unprofessional and, not to mention, Engrishy.

You know who's also obvious? RIDLEY

What would Dixie do that is so different from everyone else? They could give her a bunch of ponytail moves, but I don't think that ability is enough to define her as a really unique character. There's just nothing about her that really grabs me. I can think of a dozen characters I'd rather have.

And K. Rool is a poor man's Bowser.

Yeah but we gotta draw the line somewhere. Let's put in Waluigi who is exactly the same as Luigi, but has 20% less knockback, but can only jump 95% as high. Let's put in Chrom who plays like Marth, but his sweet spot is in the middle of his sword. Also lets put in Stahl who has his sweet spot on the lower part of his sword. And Krystal whose fall speed is between Fox and Falco's. Smash has such a diverse roster, and yeah clones/semi-clones have always been a part of it, but I want to see more interesting changes.

Also my dream Shulk trailer has Jigglypuff as one of the giant gods and a revamped Ganon.

If that's the only way those characters are going to be included then yeah, sure.

There's no way you'd get waluigi or even chrom in as their own unique characters because they're just not interesting enough to anyone outside of a few diehard fans on the internet.

Krystal is the only one who would likely be a unique character, but I'd like to think Sakurai has better taste than that
then again, miis.

Snake was one of my favorite characters in Brawl, and I was surprised at how quickly I latched onto his playstyle. I think he's gone though unless there is a last minute Smash Direct in August with his reveal which isn't looking likely. :(

I think people predicting Lucas cut are crazy though. Only time I even believed in the idea was the Gematsu rumor until the Lucina/Robin reveal. I think he'll end up as another "Ike" which was a character a lot of people already counted out that still made it back.

Snake's return does look bleak for long time so I'm prepared to lose him. I thought you want Simon Belmont to get in instead of Snake. :P

I'd rather have simon belmont too, but I'd love both, which is never going to happen.

God damn Simon would be so good, bomberman and ryu hayabusa too. Screw it, just add every main character from all the popular NES games.

I imagine Snake would look really good in the new engine, considering he has a lot of flashy explosives, I would also miss "THERE!" and "NOW!" just because that shit is fun, especially in PM.

I would kill for dixie kong in smash 4

She would make an interesting newcomer with hairs moveset like Milla.

I have insider information that Ridley DLC is going to release 3 years after the games release, they have to spend a lot of time compressing the files.

Noooooooo!!!!! 3 years waiting!

My friend's cousin's mother's former roommate said that Ridley, K. Rool, Shulk and Mewtwo are all going to be playable in the game, and, as her proof, she said Wario's going to be revealed yesterday.

How do you feel about that!? Leak just leaked and proven itself wrong under a minute.

Yep, Nintendo warned IS that if FE: A didn't hit a certain sales number they were gonna cut the series loose because it just wasn't meeting expectations, so basically the devs threw everything including the kitchen sink at the game and their bet paid off it and was a hit.

Falco's line has always read like either

"Personally I prefer the air, but a landmaster is fine too"

or

"Personally I prefer the air, which is why I'm using a landmaster modified to have better air capabilities"

to me anyway.

Also I want an NES Ice Hockey stage on the Wii U version. No, not one of those shitty pacland-esque stages where they just reuse the graphics in some horribly clashing mess, I want them to fully 3D model the ice rink, make it all have less friction and maybe slight walls on either side (it wouldn't be a walkoff either like the boxing ring, more like pokemon stadium).

If you had to have a stage hazard you could have the two teams come onto the field and play a bit of hockey where the puck did massive damage and the players did minimal damage, maybe they could do it so if you attack the puck into a goal or whatever then you recover some health or something, idk I don't care about stage hazards.

(I'd also love to be able to play as one of the NES Ice Hockey players personally as the wtf inclusion but I highly doubt it).

In terms of relevance, it's hard to argue that Pit, Ice Climbers, Game & Watch, Lucas, or ROB were at the height of their popularity upon being included. I admit that K Rool is the least likely of these inclusions, but I think there's a chance and, again, I find it hard to justify FE having more characters than DK. Especially since Sakurai has shown he'll add clones when it makes sense, as it would for Dixie Kong.

Dixie as a Diddy clone is basically impossible. She doesn't have a tail for Diddy's tail attacks, and her characteristic hair spin would be completely missing from the character. If she makes in, it'd have to be as an unique character.

They should make a helmetless Samus trophy that can only be gotten by finishing Classic Mode with Samus quickly enough.

The series needed saving?

Apparently FE:A was going to be the last game due to decreasing popularity or something.

I think in some interview the IS guys said that Nintendo told them that, should the game sell less than 250000 copies, it'll be the last one.

Edit: Here

Keep in mind that bellow 250k would be less than Shadow Dragon and all other original portable FE games in Japan, so it wasn't some hard to hit number. It was more like a "keep the series from becoming even less successful" ultimatum than a "make the series a big success!" one.

Yeah, it's so much fun to control the stage with Snake. He have very good tool assists, such as C4, mines, and grenades. It's sooooo gooood.

Given how close Nintendo and Koei Tecmo have been, I'm surprised Hayabusa hasn't shown up yet.

And for his Final Smash they replace the bongos with a signboard that he holds up and the beat patterns are replaced with numbers and maths symbols.

I wanted both of them! :D

I was pretty confident in the early days of Smash speculation that at least one Konami character would make it in the game. I assumed Snake had a pretty good chance already, so I decided to stand behind the idea of Simon mostly because the character would be a great fit on his own merits, and in a worst case scenario he would be a good Konami replacement if Snake was booted.

Wait so how much did Awakening sell?

Snake getting in Brawl was like releasing a genie from a bottle. Before Brawl's release most people probably couldn't care less, but now that he has a real possibility of getting cut from the next Smash, he is getting a ton of discussion and would probably be one of the most demanded fighters for the next game should he be cut for these two.
