Yes. The first leak got everything correct. But it doesn't follow that the second leak is correct because it could easily be a different person.

The second leak has gotten an obvious character correct, a general class including a character correct, and another character completely incorrect. Judging from the last two games, that last character, Chrom, should be in the game. The simplest explanation is that the second leak is not connected to the first one and is making educated guesses. There's no need to contort yourself to find an explanation for the second leaker's inaccuracies.

I will say that leaks aren't always the most accurate things ever, so it's important you never really repeat them with confidence or try and fill in missing blanks.

There's been a game I've seen a few topics on GAF about within the last few weeks that I've heard people talking about for two+ years but every time someone mentions it, the rumors change. If I had said what I knew two years ago and the game eventually comes out and is different from what I heard (or misheard or misremembered), there'd be a lot of "Well he was clearly making things up, anyway."

I was once told with confidence that three games in long-running series would show up at a conference. IGN even wrote a story with me as the source. Only two of those games showed up, the third was later revealed to have existed but been cancelled, and people still called me a liar. So I just don't leak anymore.

Sal's repeatedly said it's been the same source emailing him every time. Even if the second leak was fake with a few convenient guesses (getting the 'Mii Fighter' name right still makes me think he just got fed false information at some point), it's the same guy. Seems weird after earning people's trust to just throw out whatever, especially when Shulk and a RH-rep aren't remotely safe bets.

EDIT: Also the only person on GAF who kept taking the SAL leak as absolute gospel that couldn't remotely be wrong (even after their failure to mention Rosalina) is currently banned for being intentionally obtuse about almost everything.

But that's the point, we are simply stating that because a leak got some things wrong doesn't really write it off, the industry is complicated at how sources get their information could depend on the work conditions, the leaker's position, etc. Could be that beyond the first the leak is entirely made up, just saying that because they got something blatantly wrong, that doesn't necessarily makes it so.

Yeah! Which is one of the reasons I was super-stoked when Robin was announced. It really rekindled my interest in character speculation and the Smash fanbase in general!

It's really weird to think that we'll know the complete roster in a little over a month and a half at the most. I still wish they had managed to pull out a worldwide release... those last two weeks between the Japanese and American launches will be indescribably painful.

And if Sakurai can make a fighter out of characters like Villager, Little Mac, and Wii Fit Trainer, he can make a fighter out of anyone. It's just the matter of who you choose to rep the series because afaik there is no definitive RH mascot.

Also, I just want to say that the notion that "No Sakurai = PSASBR" is and incredibly cynical one, and is only really based on the notion that Sakurai is the only person who could do a Smash game properly. I, personally, am more excited than scarred by the notion of a Smash game helmed by some new blood and would want to see what they can bring to the table. Then again, I'm a bitter asshole who's scars from Brawl still burn deeply, so maybe that has something to do with it.
