NIS announces Great Edo Blacksmith for PS Vita

Nippon Ichi Software’s new PS Vita game teased last week is Great Edo Blacksmith, this week’s issue of Dengeki PlayStation reveals.

Due out on November 27 for 5,980 yen in Japan, players spend the remaining one year of their life as a blacksmith, with the goal of earning both a living and the love of a girlfriend. Players will mine dungeons for raw materials to use in creating swords and other crafts. In dungeons, you’ll hire comrades to fight alongside you. And there also appears to be some sort of woman-touching element. (Making original use of that PS Vita touch screen!)

There are three woman whose hearts you can win.

Kiyoka (voiced by Izumi Chiba) – Her trademark is her side ponytail. She has a generally positive attitude, but is a bit of a ditz.
Asaka (voiced by Tsuji Shizuka) – She’s obsessed with profit. Keeps her public and private lives separate, but is friendly with customers.
Yuugiri (voiced by Shizuka Ito) – She has an attractive face and figure, but is clumsy and pessimistic about everything.

According to game director Atsushi Iwata, the game’s target is men in their 20s, as the title is moderately ecchi.

I want this XD

Alright. I'll bite, as this sounds interesting to me.

Screens and character design will sell me this game hopefully.

yep, it's a vita game alright. Will keep an eye on it though as the premise sounds interesting,

I'm ready I guess.

Original use? Really? lol

No mention of needing to tend to a shop or having to sell and negotiate the stuff one crafts to gain a profit. It'd be great to have another game like Recettear, but not too sure this is it.

This is just getting sad now NIS. Is this really the only thing you guys are going to do that isn't a Disgaea game? Until those get these "rub" elements as well?

Also original my ass.

At first I thought they were describing something like Rune Factory, which would be awesome. But then "And there also appears to be some sort of woman-touching element" they had to go and throw that in there. =(

Not interested in virtual lady touching but that concept sounds awesome. Right now I'm visualizing a kind of mix between Harvest Moon and Recettear but with a cooler job like Blacksmith.

Hope it comes over.

Why does it have to have this "woman touching" mechanic? :(

I was really interested thinking it would be a blacksmithing Harvest Moon...

After reading the title I was imagining something quirky like Weapon Shop De Omasse focusing on Blacksmithing. I was kinda looking forward to a more in depth look at Edo time period craft and work-life and the like, but this sounds like it will be way more heavily focused upon the fantasized "women and social-life" aspects.

I guess we'll have to see

I wonder whether they played Valhalla Knights 3. Still, I'll keep my eyes open for this title.

Yep, Firefly Diary is going to bomb. It's a shame that their pandering stuff is getting a tonne more attention than something that genuinely looks good.

Ugh, I'm disgusted.

Only slightly ecchi? They should have gone with full blown triple-ecchi (HHH) instead, so that I can lick my Vita and then be modelled into Mass Effect 6 where they finally give us different hues for the endings.

Moderately ecchi? So is Monster Monpiece "Significantly ecchi" or where on the scale do we stand here. I am asking for science.

At first it sounded like Recettear, but I'm not fond of the ecchi part.

If the game is really good though, I can see myself picking it up.

I guess this is their shtick now and they are gonna stick too it, especially if they are going to now tease the "rub" games like they are some big reveal.

So, there's this woman-touching game coming out where I have to mess around with anvils and stuff? Lame.

Actually, this looks awesome.

It's not like the western press treats their non-ecchi games any better. I'll be getting Firefly Diary day one but there's no way in hell it'll get much press attention. The press loves to complain about too much manshoot and waifu but they don't like to cover "weird" stuff like Firefly.

Whatever though. Firefly proves NIS is still willing to make non-ecchi stuff, hopefully they continue. Just wish the west still ate that stuff up (firefly not this) like we seemed to in the PS2 days.

You know, that second game isn't even Monster Monpiece, that action wouldn't do anything at any point in the game.

A strong side-eye to every company that only utilizes the touch screen for girl rubbing minigames. It's a shame because I feel like a lot of the time it's tacked on and only there to appeal to the otaku market that eats any ol' ecchi stuff up.

Oh well, still interested in everything else described.

Firefly Diary is a good point. Getting that and hoping for more games like it. :)
