Our simple gaming nook. The PS3 and Linux Laptop/Steam Streamer are around the corner in a book case. The laptop is set up for standing use when not streaming to the TV.

After taking the photo I realized identifiable info was in the file names, so I blurred them.

How do you guys deal with glare? I've got a side light window on the door to my living room and it drives me crazy. Doesn't help that my LG plasma is like a damn mirror. I really need to invest in a shade or blackout but it would have to be custom made. I can't find anything that would work at Lowes/Home Depot.

What a great idea to hide your cables. Is this a common method or you came up with it? Also did you buy the board ready to be installed or did you design it and put it together?

let's say it is a common sense to hide them this way, I do not see it other way...

This was all designed by me, and cut to fit, then I assembled it together, and that is the easiest part, hiding these cables took more than half a day...

The Pinball Table and MAME cabinets were definitely a labour of love and not cheap to build...but if I'm going to do something then it's got to be done properly!

I'm currently in a rental at the moment in Perth Western Australia, so these rigs are scattered around the house...looking forward to getting my own place and setting up a dedicated gaming room at some point in the future :)

Cheers,

Mmmmhmmmm if there's one thing I'm looking forward to about buying my own house, it's making the effort to put cables behind walls and boards. I'm going to run ethernet to every room in the house and mount wireless access points behind little thin panels or something.

There's 3 access points in the current place but they're just put in media cabinets with all their stupid ass flashing lights.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but is setting up streaming from Windows 8 to Xbox 360 a massive pain in the arse for anyone else? I think there might be a library size limitation or something...

I'm loving the stark differences between people set-ups. One is really clean while othert just don't give a fuck and put things however they like it/what's practical, and everything in between.

For cable management I use velcro. You can buy a roll of a couple of meters for a few bucks. So you'll get something like this
31KJtWGpPjL.jpg

Which is great if the wires are all going in the same direction. I try and split my mains between a couple of sockets, my Ethernet is on the left by my router, but my receiver is on the right. So all my wires go in all directions. Would be a nightmare to try and reorder them now - i do recognise that it is a bloody mess though

I'm excited. I signed a lease on a new apartment, and have cash set aside to interior design the shit out of it. This is going to be the setup I've wanted to put together since I first started scouring these threads back in 2009.

I guess that if nothing else, the pics here have given me something to aspire to... well, in terms of consumption.

Almost 10 years ago my roommate and I had full arcade machines for NBA Hangtime, Ultimate MK3, Off Road, and a Neo Geo machine. Plus I had a PS2, GCN, a very nice surround system, and a wonderful projector. I will never be able to top those days again.

As for now, I just play PC games on my laptop with this low-budget setup:

ibolJmuAivLmXR.JPG

2011 Macbook Pro (w/ Windows 7 partition)
-2.3 GHz Intel Quad Core i7
-16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
-AMD Radeon HD 6750M

Steinberg UR22 192kHz/24-bit DAC

Behringer MS40 Studio Monitors

Sony MDR-V6 Headphones

Xbox 360 Controller w/ Receiver

Our modest setup.
Patiently waiting for that PS4 or Xbox One (I haven't decided yet...)
I did my best with cable management but it's still a mess behind the 360 :(
We also definitely need some wall decoration!

When you say "our" and "we" you mean you and the cat right? :3

Btw isn't that tv a bit too far from the couch?

I just got done with my new gaming setup.
Took an old desk that was in the garage and took some Flat Black spray paint to it. I also did the same with my computer table
I tried my best with the cable management, but you can only see a few.
Very happy with the end result.

I live in Perth. We're friends now btw. I'm coming over. :P

Haha! I actually meant my girlfriend... and the cat of course. She doesn't like to get photographed as much as the cat though. :)

Yes, the tv is kind of far but it was the only room setup we liked. I think the photos make it look worse than it actually is, irl the experience isn't that bad.
A bigger screen would be the perfect solution. This one is only a 40'' because we were living in a much smaller space when we bought it. I hope we can upgrade this year...

Here's my stuff. It's far from being as organized as the stuff a lot of people post here, of course, but I guess that's down to me being a student. Also of note is that I share all of that stuff with my twin brother, hence why there are 3 setups (one at home, and one per person at our "apartement").

Excuse the image quality. Also, if you want to see more of my (or I suppose I should say, our) collection, take a look at this.

The main setup at home. I couldn't get a picture of the whole thing because of how the room is layed out (and also because it wasn't cleaned up :P)

The main setup at the apartement. Nothing of note here.

The secondary setup. You have to excuse the horrible cable management, it's really only meant to be practical. In the meantime, I have removed that skin from the PS1 in this picture, but that doesn't change much in the grand scheme of things.

Also, I want to take this time to applaud all of you for your beautiful setups. Some of that stuff will be something I'll only ever be able to dream of, and it impresses me to no end. Keep it up, boys and girls!

Fantastic!
Did you build any haptic feedback in when you built it?
That thing is screaming out for some small transducers so you can feel the impacts. Wouldn't take much effort or cost a lot, either.

Well, I definitely thought about it but in the end decided not to due to the additional cost, time and complexity involved.

My budget had already blown out to over $3.5k on it as I had to buy everything from scratch, i.e. PC, speakers, amplifier, 2 x screens, IPAC controller & wiring, buttons, cabinet, Star Trek TNG decals, proper widebody table legs, stainless steel lockdown bar and side rails, hardened safety glass etc...the list went on and on!

It also took a huge amount of time getting all the various software working together as well e.g. HyperPin frontend, Visual Pinball, Future Pinball, getting the playfield, back glass and dot matrix display to work in sync, downloading ALL the back glass images, downloading all the original flyers/instructions for the actual tables, generating sample videos of each table to display as you cycle through them, and also included using Excel to generate a 50,000 line registry file to automatically resize all 300+ tables to fit my screen dimensions and apply other default config settings (otherwise I'd have had to do them all manually)!! In total it took me close to 100 hours from start to finish!

As I said...it was definitely a labour of love and I am very happy with the way it turned out (certainly has the 'wow' factor when people see it running!)...but probably one that I wouldn't choose to do again :)

Cheers,

Chris

I was hoping someone here would be able to provide me with an idea because I am struggling to come up with one. I'm looking for a way to make my bulky ugly TV the main monitor in my computer setup so that I can easily play games on it. The problem is that I have this standing desk currently with dual monitors mounted on it and cannot come up with a way to set things up so it's comfortable to use. Maybe I should just accept that these three screens will never really go well together. Has anyone else had success using a large screen TV as their main computer/gaming screen?

Faith, could you give your opinion and maybe some pros/cons on one extra wide format monitor vs dual normal widescreen monitors?

Took these for the comfy couch PC thread but thought I'd share them here as well since I've been meaning to take pictures of my new TV console..

Here's a pic of the living room (big empty space has a new bench coming in Monday):

A view of the entertainment center itself (Top right X51, Top left Wii U, Bottom Right PS4, Bottom left printer, Middle top record player, Middle bottom receiver/center speaker):

Amazing work. Bravo, sir.

Btw, I bought a Sigma 10-20mm/F3.5 because of you, thanks :P

I might post also some wide-angle photos.

Edit: Here ^^

Honestly, this is like the perfect apartment setup. Small, simple, clean. I've been looking for a place and I'd like to shoot for something like this.

Quarrying in the wall, to hide all the cables/electricity wires inside the walls.

This way i won't have any wires around, making the TV and speakers to look like they stick on the wall without any cabels in the setup.

What happens when you want to change your setup? Are you going to have to rip trenches into your walls just to change everything?

Well no, inside the walls we put hoses.
I can change the cabels and wires through them anytime easily.

Only if i'll want to change the location of the setup dramaticlly it will pose a big problem. But, all the new furniture and setup and diementions around were pre planned. Thus making any change in the long term future unnecessary.

Plus, while planning i took a good few measurments aside for future changes and expensions.
