BEST NEWS OF THE MONTH.

now can we skip right into the launch week? because nothing really matters.

This means a €20 price tag over here. I'll buy it at a €10 price point. I completed the game not that long ago. Don't feel compelled to pay that sum for a game I probably won't replay for a year or two.

Have they announced that? IIRC the Ys games don't use € = $ so it will probably be less.

We price fairly for Europe whenever possible.

That would be nice, unfortunately it's rare.
I'll gladly put down the 20 euros or whatever it is with the 15% off but I appreciate the effort to give europeans a fair price.
This is one case where I don't mind though, you guys deserve it.

Surprise at the release date seeing as how much trouble they went through. Still hope it does well on Steam and GOG.

BTW Sara, since you're here I'll take this opportunity to tell you directly just how much I value the effort you and the rest of the team are putting into this.
You are amazing. I really hope you know how amazing you are.

I'm (pleasantly) surprised. Haven't been following this all that well, but I thought there were tech problems plaguing both FC and SC's release (Out of curiosity, what was the estimate date for FC?) that would've taken more time to fix than this. Hoping SC is released just as suddenly.

So this is the first chapter of TitS? How many TitS chapters are there and will they get released? It would suck to not have the whole TitS story.

Eureka! This is long overdue and great news.

Just 3 chapters (and the 3rd is largely supplemental).
But the entire Kiseki franchise branches off into additional titles in this same universe after that.

XSEED is already on record that they have no plans to release the 3rd chapter.

I'll be getting this on Steam so it can join the rest of my digital Falcom library, but holy crap, this GOG support is awesome, awesome news! Day one, and I'll be going back to wait for SC with bated breath. Excellent work to all of those involved to get this done!

Initially FC was set for Spring, after that it was summer, fortunately they made it.
Still hoping for SC before the end of the year.

Any word on GOG extras? That's the kind of thing that'd make me want to go GOG, but if it's a base release then there's not much reason for me to go to that over Steam first thing.

This is the first chapter of a trilogy that is part of a greater franchise.
The second chapter has already been confirmed. The third probably depends on the sales.

It was originally slated for last Winter. I do believe Hatsuu is planning on writing about some of the difficulties XSEED has encountered.

At least as far as Steam is concerned, the 1 USD = 1 Euro thing isn't something that's set in stone; it's just the default conversion. Sadly, though, as you note, many if not most publishers simply don't bother to set their own prices. Even indies are guilty of it.

And if I remember correctly, there's no word on the possibility of 3rd, right? Because for now I'm assuming SC is the last game we're going to get.

It's been disclosed that each game being huge endeavors, they're not even thinking about TC before SC is out, and that if SC performs well, TC could happen.

Gog offers USD prices worldwide. So even if it's 20€ on Steam, you'll be able to get if for the cheaper price if it matters that much to you.

GOG page for the game isn't up yet. I don't expect anything though.

Anyways: day one perch!
Even with the 3rd as a likely no-go, I'm hoping XSEED will be willing to pursue some of the later installments in the Kiseki franchise if Trails in the Sky FC & SC are profitable.

The 7th Kiseki installment branches across two titles (Zero & Ao no Kiseki) - both of which are available on Vita & PC.
The 8th Kiseki installment also branches across two titles (Sen no Kiseki I & II) - both of which are available on Vita & PS3.

Yeah, sad state of affairs, at least during sales the prices are usually properly converted.
Now I'm curious to see the price for this.

I think you are confused. LoH is not synonymous with Kiseki and Falcom stopped the LoH numbering with Zero.

XSEED has been great about extras in the past, though that was also on the physical front rather than the digital. Still, there's no way to include those with Nintendo releases, little for Sony, and somewhat convoluted for Steam, while GOG is very nice and convenient for them. At a minimum it'd probably be nice to have an OST sample, not that I really need that after the PSP version.

Now you've got me confused. The Trails (Kiseki) series is still considered a sub-series of The Legend of Heroes (Eiyuu Densetsu). So, aren't all three chapters of Trails in the Sky considered The Legend of Heroes VI, with Zero and Ao being the two parts of VII, and Sen I and II being the two parts of VIII (that we know of so far)? Please correct me if I'm wrong, I could be a raving madman here.

Wow, this is pretty .....incredible. And pretty unexpected isn't it?

Are there that many PSP games that get ported to PC? Is there a list somewhere perhaps?

Actually, it was the other way around. Trails in the Sky is a PC game that was released in 2004, and later ported to the PSP.

Another reason I am glad I waited on playing this is because I will play through it with the comfort of knowing that the sequel is on the way. When the fate of the sequel was unknown it made me want to play the PSP release even less because if it got me hooked on the story I would end up severely disappointed in the end.

I squee'd so hard when I saw this news this morning. We are finally get TiTS on Steam and this week no doubt! Best surprise ever, today was a good day!

If Xseed ever decided to do the Crossbell and Erebonia games they'd have to do the 3rd also since that game apparently has some foreshadowing for future plot points in the series.

From what I understand, the main story will actually be wrapped-up at the end of SC. No clue what 3rd is about, though.

Also, I don't think that XSEED ever said that 3rd will never come. They're simply not promising anything other than SC at this point, since the task of localizing these games is just too enormous. I'd assume that we can expect 3rd sooner or later if the Steam releases are successful, but it might take a long time before all involved parties are able to put as much time into as Kiseki game again. For the same reason, I very much doubt that they are going to jump to some other Kiseki game instead - the problem is not 3rd in particular, but the amount of text in Kiseki games in general.

For the record, the main story arc is wrapped up in the second game. The third game explores some of the non-playable characters' stories from the previous two games and serves as a bit of a bridge to the next story arc, which starts with Zero no Kiseki. 3rd is absolutely wonderful, and my favorite Kiseki game, but even if only the first and second games are released in English, you'd get some resolution.

Basically this. They have NEVER once said "no", in fact there is nothing confirmed, nor denied about the PS3 versions coming over in the future. It's all possible.

The big factor is basically buy and support NOW if you want to continue to play it. TC isn't quite as big as SC was, but it still needs those sales to go through...

I'm going to buy FC even though I have already played it on PSP. Maybe I'll replay it, maybe not.

You are more or less correct. Officially, Zero, Ao and Sen are just listed as "The Legend of Heroes: Zero/Ao/Sen no Kiseki" with no numbering, much as The Legend of Heroes VI: Sora no Kiseki (Trails in the Sky) was later renamed The Legend of Heroes: Sora no Kiseki FC. But early design documents for Zero no Kiseki labeled it as The Legend of Heroes VII,which I think contributed toward fan conclusions that Zero and Ao = 7, while the Sen games = 8.

It's not confirmed 100% that those numberings are accurate, but they do "seem" right.

A couple things:

We actually never said we definitively weren't doing 3rd (that I know of, anyway!), just that we "don't even want to think about it until SC (Trails 2) is out the door." So yeah, the possibility of 3rd still exists, and I think depends heavily on how well the Trails games sell on PC (which, we're assuming, will be pretty well).

Also, the actual main storyline of Trails in the Sky concludes with Trails 2 -- the third game is like a connector between Trails 1 and 2 and the rest of the Kiseki series, filling in gaps in the story and preparing things for future installments. If you're planning to stop playing eventually (because you just can't wait another moment!), Trails 2 is actually the best place to stop for... quite a while. ;)
