Trails in the Sky: FC on Steam/GOG July 29th

Finally. I've been checking the Steam store, as well as XSEEDs twitter and facebook page religiously for the past 6 months in the hopes that "early 2014" meant early 2014. It's great that they've waited a week for its release since I know the wait won't be much longer down the road.

Oh right, forgot that Sen is also on PS3. When I said exclusive, I really meant not on PC. Sorry!

Is the PC version of Zero based on the original PSP release or the Vita remake?
Original PSP version, though it uses assets from the Vita version. The base is the PSP version though, which means only battles and a few lines here and there are voiced, it uses the original OST not the arranged one, etc. It still looks pretty nice though.

Never heard of this before, but am intrigued after reading that it's widely considered to be one of the bets jrpgs ever..

As people have said, FC is a fantastic game but it's not a complete experience, but taken as a whole with SC I'd agree that it's among the best. Personally I think 3rd and Zero are better though (haven't played Ao yet and only played a bit of Sen so far).

The series is remarkable because each successive game continues to build on the foundation of the ones before in narrative, world building and design. There really isn't anything else like it.

That not something you should label it as or else you probably end up disappointed. It only first chapter of a series that has continuity (of lore/story-telling) beyond a single game. I would say it extremely difficult to judge the first chapter without it sequel.

Although it pretty much my favorite series; I really don't think there currently a title within the games that can be widely accepted as one of the "best jrpg"... As much as I love Zero/Ao :/

Honestly it doesn't need be though. As luka pointed out what makes it special is the series as whole. Would argue that the reason you'll see a vocal following of the games.

Getting this. If only just to make it easier to transfer a save file when SC is translated and released, as well. I know they promised a PSP release, but I have my doubts...

YES!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy. I don't have Steam set up yet, but I'm so incredibly glad that more people will get to experience this game. I love it so very much, and I truly hope this release helps the series get the recognition it deserves in the west.

EVERYONE BUY IT.

How hard is this game? I love JRPGs with a great story to play with my wife and I love being able to grind my way out of a tough spot and cream the game.

It's very good, but as for one of the best JRPGs ever...I wouldn't go that far personally. It's probably an 8 or 8.5 out of 10 for me.

But the story is good right?

I've seen several people comment on how it has a solid cast of characters and a fun story, which is what I miss the most about old JRPG in this era of deep-wannabe square writing and "every anime cliche ever" Tales of writing

I'd say its moderate. There are a few cutthroat moments but its generally breezy if you have a good grasp of the Orbment System.

Ah, cool. Will I need to consult a guide for rare items/side quests or will I be fine stumbling my through the game?

If you want to get 100% you will need a guide.

So is this really fifty hours long, or is that a padded number?

I'm excited to finally play this, but I don't know if I want to deal with that kind of bloated game length right now.

If it's early 2014, it's mid 2014. If it's mid 2014, it's actually early 2015. Still not as bad as some other companies.

If you want to mainly focus on the story required quests I don't think it should take you more than 40 hours. But keep in mind that the sequel is even longer than this so this series can be time consuming.

This game is worth it, it has a slow start but it's sooooo damn good.

You'd at least take around 40 hours to finish the game your first time around, and there's a lot of side quest stuff that would at least add 10+ hours, I never 100% it but I will this time around, I expect to take 50+ hours.

For the first 2 games, the story is good, not just the main story, but all the side quests are also interesting. Besides, according to your progress, all the dialogs in a city will change dramatically, makes you want to speak with everyone again and again to dig into the story. The 3rd one is like a fan services game, it digs into all the relative characters appear in the first 2 games and tell stories about them, if you like the characters, you will find this game provide a lot of background story and it is very interesting.

I would say the down side of the first 3 games is Falcom left so many mysteries unsolved and up until now there is still no answers to many of them. I doubt Falcom could eventually give us an answer.

For the sequel... I hate it.

Yes. There's a decent one on Gamefaqs I used for my aborted 2nd playthru that doesn't spoil that much.

Oh, and TitS utilizes anti-grinding mechanics; enemies 3 levels below you give jack for XP. You can grind for sepith (cash) though via Bracer quests, though!

Is someone doing an OT for this? I really hope so.

You will need a guide. Some items have super narrow windows of opportunity.

Thanks everyone! Anyone mind pointing towards the best guide to use?

Didn't complete the game on the PSP and will be getting this release:)

The best thing about the game is the huge amount of dialogue from NPCs. So much to read and such a joy if you like to know more about the world. NPCS reacting to changes make the world feel real and alive. Also the talking chests added in by Xseeds are funny:)

Today was a long busy day, but coming home to this news made it all worth it. I'm very glad to here that this is finally on it's way in the near future. Hope it does well for based Xseed.

Day one on GOG o/
Played this back around Japanese pc release. To this day SC is the only game I ever used a countdown for. I've never been able to support Falcom until now (cue the booing), so I'll do my part. I doubt Falcom will be seeing much money though. Are the licensing agreements a one time deal or royalty based ?
Hope we'll see the rest of the series, and good luck in your endeavours XSEED.

Oh well, couldn't help myself. I just grabbed the PSP version. At least now I don't have to wait an extra week. lol

I just started the last chapter of Corpse Party but as soon as I'm done with it I'll get started on Trails.

The game is pretty old, I don't why it would run it.

It should be fine but if not I'll be buying a new PC just for this and SC. And then I'll play them again when Vita TV finally comes out.

I even played the Gagharv trilogy in my thirst for more Legend of Heroes but the terrible translation damn near ruined those.

Said no one ever.

Falcom being the best current JRPG developer is not a huge stretch though.

I consider Falcom and Atlus to be the top JRPG devs right now, and I wouldn't mind saying that Falcom is the best even if they have become the Kiseki with some Ys every now and then company. It just sucks that English speakers can't play all their games.

Maybe it isn't often said about this particular game, but there are definitely lots of people who have taken the series as a whole as their favorite RPG series.

Sigh. After hearing so much praise, I'm really disappointed that we only have the first (and soon the second) game in the series. I'd play all of them if they were released in english :(

Then keep supporting the series. No one said that SC, and possibly the 3rd, is all we're getting. It's what we're getting right now.

If this does well, I see no reason why XSEED won't continue with the series.

This is why we gotta support the fuck out of the series, I'm buying it day 1 and telling some friends to get it.

I hope the people that have played Ys games check it out even if it's not a ARPG.

If the Ys on Steam sales trend happens with Kiseki, I hope Falcom sees the Western sales potential and gets some of its people working on more PC ports. The Chinese ports only cover two games after Sora no Kiseki, and they could pose a glitchy buggy problem should XSEED ever get the chance to localize more titles.

Their PR could be a lot better, but it seems we only complain out of love for the games they bring over. I wish Degica were as passionate about the recent A-Train 9 release (nothing against Deckiller).

I really hope it sells well, there's so few traditional turn based JRPGs on Steam and I'm sure there are a lot of PC gamers that would enjoy the game.

Then we're going to bug Tom for years till Xseed announces they are giving us 3rd.

I will support the series by buying the first game, and if I like it enough, the second game.
And more if they release the sequels.
Nayuta would be great too.

The sheer novelty of an actual universally acclaimed JRPG on Steam will help it sell. Steam is so starved they even made the Agarest games do well. Aside from the Final Fantasies its a pretty sparse land (note I'm talking about more traditional JRPG and am not saying the more action oriented ones suck).
