Brussel sprouts? That rodent was doing you a favor, man.

anecdote: for the first time in my 3.5 decades on earth, I actually had brussels sprouts that I didn't dislike a few months ago at a Japanese fusion restaurant. I don't know what they did to them but they were tasty and not at all bitter.

Seriously, just steam or roast them. Maybe add a little bit of salt.

Nothing else.

Magnifique.

My girlfriend is a huge fan of them.
I don't like them. They always taste like feet to me (and yes, I've had my share of feet).
She says it's because I've always had them overcooked.

I trust her, but at the same time I've already written them off.

Gotta sautee brussel sprouts with apples, salt, and a bit of apple cider to steam them a bit if they're larger. Really works well against the bitter taste.

Brussel Sprouts are the best.

No joke: They're my favorite vegetable and I love vegetables.

No shit. I LOVE Brussel Sprouts.

I can eat them by the pound, they're so good.

I tried some Spicy Pickled Brussel Sprouts though and holy shit were they bad.

Fear Factor bad.

Yeah, if you overcook them they start tasting a little sulfer-y.

that's kind of the beauty of the whole kickstarter thing though is that they get to heavily pander to the nostalgia crowd without worrying about pleasing a wide audience.

reading that sentence, it sounds kind of negative but I don't mean it that way at all. it's neat.

But Divinity was a Kickstarter too, with the headline that "Divinity Original Sin is an old-school cRPG with new ideas & modern execution, will release this year. Funded by fantastic backers!" It raised $944,282

Obsidian's headline was "Project Eternity is an isometric, party-based computer RPG set in a new fantasy world developed by Obsidian Entertainment" It raised $3,986,929

I don't mean to keep harking on, but I feel like Pillars could have been more than I am seeing.

I really think too many Kickstarter games play things too safe. I thought the same for Broken Age, as seeing as it was the first Tim Schafer lead adventure game in well over a decade I expected more from it. I am happy when a company comes along that wants to push past nostalgic memories from the genre greats of yesteryear, and try and advance the genre they are partaking in. It's a much braver move, as you are pushing against the wishes and memories of your brackets, but advancing the genre, and giving people something a bit more outlandish, will always lead to a better game IMO

Pillars just seem a bit to safe to me, and not hugely interesting (to me) as a result.

Pillars of Eternity is way more straight-up Baldur's Gate than I expected, which is really great and I love it and GotY and give me this.

But I can totally see how that game would look pretty bad to people who don't have the experience with/nostalgia for those games.

But the funding amounts and the headlines must say something to you. The one advertising new ideas and modern execution made 1/3 of what the one that didn't.

Now, admittedly, some of that was purely that Obsidian is much bigger name, but I think if you look at the way the two campaigns were presented tells a lot. Obsidian literally just said it wanted to basically make a new IE game.

Divinity was pledging that it was going to modernize thing.

Clearly there's a large audience for the more classic-style game.

I can see the argument for "playing it safe" but I would characterize it as sticking with the audience that brought you. I think Obsidian would rather please the people that funded the KS than appeal to the mainstream while pissing off those backers.

Divinity OS had been in the works for years and had outside funding.

This is a big thing to note. Divinity already had funding, the kickstarter was to help polish it some more and add some things. Pillars, as far as we've been told, is mostly 100% Kickstarter funded. Obviously Obsidian probably had to chip in some of their own money, but Divinity and Pillars are hard to compare.

I miss bitching about GB not having any content. Fucking jerks ruining a perfectly valid and stable source of ire. Now what am I going to be mad at?

Yeah, you can't compared Divinity and Pillars. From Divinity's Kickstarter page:

We want to increase the development budget so we can increase the size of our development team. This in turn will allow us to further increase the amount of gameplay in our game world. We are convinced that we are very close to making a great RPG and we want to rise to the occasion by investing everything we can into it. So far the game has been funded by investors and by our own funds, but we have reached the limit of what we can do on our own. Here's where your help becomes very valuable. Here's where you can make the difference.

Without your support, we think the result of our efforts will make a good RPG, but with a bigger budget we'll be able to go the extra mile, and accomplish our full vision for the game, as fantastic as it deserves to be.

That's true, but even with that consideration I don't think we can say that the differences in budget is that big. It's not like belgium has China-levels of cost of labour.

Divinity raised ~1mil but they already had spent ~3mil working on it (investors).

Living and working in Belgium is way more expensive than US btw.

dang and from all appearances they delivered the hell out of that request too. Good on those guys.

Yeah, this is really promising for the studio. All their previous games i've found to be decent but flawed. Divinity: OS feels like it reached the potential of what their games can be, and with it selling so well it might give them the budget to create even better games in the future.

You know what's up.

Cut them in half, toss them in a bit of olive oil, salt and pepper and roast them until they start getting golden and a bit toasty. Perfection.

I thought divinity 2 was really fun.

I'm sure you all caught it live but I'm 15 minutes into Vinny's Velvet Sundown thing and I can't watch this at work, I'm dying.

Vinny is a damn fine writer.

I'm watching it now. The italian guy trying to cyber while Vinny plays with a completely straight face is so weird and funny.

Vinny really got into character. Much better than some folks he was playing with.
Hearing them say LAUGH OUT LOUD or EX-DEE for xD had me cracking up.

I actually never played Divinity 2, but i've heard good things about it. I should check it out.

Jumping from a cliff, turning into a dragon in midair to strafe enemies with fire, then turn back into a dude and fall from the sky onto an enemy with your greatsword is pretty great.

The game has its issues but I did enjoy it alot!

Man, finally got a chance to listen to the Bombcast. It might actually be in my top two or three episodes ever. I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard listening to the podcast. Holy shit.

-Dan's "Egg Whites," Seriously, I've probably only eaten a bite of eggs maybe like three times in my life, but the fact that he was cooking the shells is fucking hilarious.
-Dan vs. Jeff: Mario 64 vs. Mario Sunshine, damn I love it when Jeff gets riled up, and this might have been his best fit in a long ass time.
-The last email. Nuff said.

That was a really fucking great episode. So glad they brought Dan in and Drew is being a bit more vocal.

Jep, D2: Ego Draconis was pretty good actually but badly overlooked. I think the Xbox Version was terrible but on PC it was pretty good.

Also I'd rather eat my own puke than Brussel sprouts. Should have named them Devil's Sprouts. Horrible, just horrible.

I havent seen a Brussels sprout since u was 6. I fully believe someone could cook them so they tasted good. But those cafeteria ones were nasty

If it weren for the fact that Brussels Sprouts are clearly evil, Jean Claude Van Damme would have been California governor instead of Arnold.

Man if you know how to play Hearthstone, you shouldn't look at the quick look while Alex is playing it because it's just going to piss you off how many mistakes he makes.
edit: OK nevermind looks like he actually gets back on track but that Druid challenge is pretty easy anyway. And... he just forgot to play a card for no reason.

And yet he beat Heroic mode.

Brussel sprounts are delicious when prepared right, but watch out if you are prone to kidney stones. Those things have a bunch of oxolates. Only reason I don't eat them nowadays.

If you're good at a game and care about other people playing the game well don't watch a Giant Bomb video of the game.

Unless the game is Top Gun.

UP! UP!
SLOW DOWN! SLOW DOWN!
DOWN! DOWN!
LEFT! LEFT!

*cutscene*

*plane crashes*

That was me everytime I played Top Gun as an 8 year old. I landed the plane once.
Jeff is my hero.

There was a trick to landing the plane in Top Gun. If you held the controller a certain way you could do it every time. I wish I could remember exactly how, but it's been a pretty long damn time.
