Man shoots and kills intruder. Police determine she was not pregnant.

She said all that as she was running away, with her back to him? I'm just trying to envision the scenario.

I'm having a hard time picturing this as well. Hard to pass judgement without being there and seeing what really went down. Hard to defend either party at the same time. Still, when he was quoting what the woman was saying.... damn.

Basically in the US you have licence to kill anyone who robs your house if they are no threat anymore and running away.

Proportionate response, what that?

The fuck are you supposed to do when a couple has robbed you multiple times and assaulted you? Rob them back?

Like with all these crazy stories, I still think there is more than what we know. The fact that this is the third time it happened is only the tip, I feel.

Still, geez what a mess.

Robbers want to grab possessions and go free.
Home defenders want kill to protect possessions.
One day robbers will come in with guns blazing just in order to live.
Next home defenders will set deadly booby traps on property in order to live.
Then robbers will start firing rockets from afar to live.
Escalated mayhem.

This ends up being really bizarre. On one hand if she had not been pregnant the headline would be man shoots and kills fleeing intruder which seems sensible to an extent and on the other you have an old man not willing to heed her plea though she just committed burglary of his house while pregnant. I don't know how to react to it.

I do. Fuck this guy.

It feels like some people haven't been robbed in their house before. It feels like you have been raped.

Anyways, I would never, no matter how desperate I get, I would never rob someones home because I imagine the scenario where I break into their house and take some stuff and then go down into the basement and turn in the lights...then I just see a bunch of mutilated bodies hanging from the ceiling by meat hooks...and the door locks behind me. Guess what? It's your own damn fault. Don't rob someone's home.

Nice victim blaming. Also sorry to hear you were raped

Sorry but this guy was too damn cold. Girl literally begged him at gun point. No ordering her to stop, no telling her to never come back. Just a straight shot through her. Just a sad clashing of three bad people and one snuffed life.

I think the proper thing is definitely to murder them in cold blood. What else could you do? There is literally no other thing you could do.

I was going to say this was fucking insane overkill and that killing a fleeing burglar ain't worth having that death on your conscience, but the third time they fucking burglarized him?

Crazy old guy shoots shithead home invaders cocky enough to rob the same place three times. Fucking robbed THREE times.

Shitty situation, but it's an 80 year old guy, who has been robbed by the same couple twice & has his collar bone broken in the process.

He's probably thinking that they'll keep coming back.

Yeah, I would normally call it a cold blooded murder, but the repeat offense changes things a bit. The police wasn't doing it's job, so was this old dude just supposed to wait until the next time?

Criminals should take note here. They might get killed while robbbing people. Who knew?!?

Don't give trigger happy people the excuse to shoot and kill you.

The jury's decision will depend on if they liked the Bronson movies or not.

I dont think he believed her, since they all had a history together.

I think he just saw a thief who harassed him 3 times, and I don't think he values what a thief says trying to get out of a situation like that.

He was definitely incredibly cold, but it makes me think that he was really tired of getting robbed by the same person.

Alright well.

This thread is gonna be a graveyard. Holy crap.

Death Penalty for burglary. Every repeat offender in jail should be lined up for the chair right?

Apparently seriously injurying someone and robbing someone repeatedly is not a big deal.
We should hold a trial for the recently deceased woman.

Seriously, there's no point in saying "what she did was wrong!" She's dead. The only person on trial is the guy who shot her.

And after she comes and robs him a 4th time what then?

How many times does this guy have to get robbed by these people before he is allowed to do anything?

Could have called the cops. Locked her up right there.

It's cool you put me on the spot, but yes, repeatedly, by an older cousin.

Edit: I've also been robbed before, hence the analogy.

Sorry to hear that.

People are awfully fond of jumping to conclusions. Anyways, I can understand why he did it but I don't think I would do the same thing.

Let it be a lesson to all you pregnant girls. If your yolo boyfriend says "Let go rob this old guy tonight." Stay the hell home

"You stole my ballpoint pen, I get to murder you 10 blocks away when you are at Starbucks"

Proportionate response, what that?

Strawman, what that? Who knows what will happen to this guy, it hasn't been charged or not charged yet.

Also, "expect that this may happen" and "you deserve this" are not the same thing. You don't deserve to die for driving 120mph on the freeway, but there's a much better chance of it happening. If you value your life, don't put it on the line.

He is allowed to do many things. He is not allowed to shoot someone fleeing off his property while begging for mercy.

This isn't rocket science.

The couple broke into this man's house multiple times. They obviously thought he was an easy target and I have no doubt in my mind that they would have continued to do so after this incident. I don't think he was justified in pulling the trigger after they had already left but I can't say I blame him for doing it at all. He's 80-years-old and I'd feel pretty helpless in that situation and definitely angry.

I admittedly have 0 (ZERO) sympathy for those who steal from others, pregnant or otherwise, still messed up when someone follows them off premises to fire rounds, even more so when there are verbal contacts between the victim and the perp.

When you commit crimes you need to be prepared for all possible consequences. Sounds harsh, but its the truth.

I didn't say it was morally right. But if some1 breaks into some1s home they are risking getting shot. Punishing some1 for how they react to a home invasion is also a real shitty situation.

i agree, i'm not suggesting we throw the old man in jail. i also agree that robbing a home does mean you put your life on the line.

i just think it's important that we recognize that just because you can justify killing someone, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

You know who else is a piece of shit? The accomplice that ran and left a pregnant lady in the dust. If he cared at all and knew the guy was dangerous he should have hung back to allow her to get away. All three involved are just terrible people.

Alright well.

This thread is gonna be a graveyard. Holy crap.

Death Penalty for burglary. Every repeat offender in jail should be lined up for the chair right?

Burglars should run away screaming "dont shoot me" while they carry the stolen stuff to their place!

am I doing this right?

This case is not black and white - human nature is a complex puzzle. The girl was a dumb fuck for robbing a place; especially when she was pregnant. And the old man shot in the heat of the moment and from frustration.

It's cool you put me on the spot, but yes, repeatedly, by an older cousin.

Sorry to hear that.

Unfortunately, posters on GAF likes to hound on rape analogies and it's a sure fire way for people to dismiss your argument (by jumping to conclusion.)

No offense to you regarding my earlier comment.

I really dont feel bad for them. When you rob someone house anything can happen.

Cant read the article on the OP, but this one have some interesting things.

I mean, I feel bad for them either way because of the events in their lives that lead them to this point. That is also an interesting detail. Would it be self defense if they're robbed your hosue before and letting them go most likely means they'll come back again to possibly endanger your life?

Probably not, no.

I wouldn't of shot her but why people do extremely dangerous stuff like robbing houses and not expect to get shot in an armed country like America is beyond me. Not worth it imo.
