Anyone who's a normal subscriber having problems because of this promotion? I haven't been able to load a comic on my ipad the last two nights and tonight my library (which had 30+ comics) is showing up empty.

Tempting but every time I think about getting into the Marvel canon I get overwhelmed.

I had never read a Marvel comic before signing up for a month of Unlimited and it was a bit overwhelming at first, but I found this site http://www.comicbookherald.com/the-complete-marvel-reading-order-guide/. It has event reading orders and also guides for characters/teams. Seeing a reading order made it feel a lot less overwhelming. I was reading through Grant Morrison's New X-Men which the author recommended as a good intro to X-Men stuff.

I only signed up for a month but really liked it, let my subscription lapse while I read other stuff, and will probably resubscribe with this promotion.

Holy shit does this iPad app even work?

Even in the off chance I can get something into my Library in Offline Mode, the shit disappears as soon as I click on my library.

The iPad app usually works pretty well, the systems are just overloaded right now and messing things up.

AGGGGGGGGGGH

I was ordering and didn't notice you still had to enter the promo code after subbing THROUGH the promo link. What the fuck. There goes $9 I didn't want to spend.

I'm dumb and should have read closely but I was in an excited hurry.

Sorry about that, I just went back and edited the OP to stress the fact there's a promo code.

It's a shame I have it on my iPhone, it sucks. I took advantage of the deal though. Got a few comics that I can read offline too. Anyone else have it on iOS?

Yeah I'm trying to create an account and I get a confirmation e-mail and it says I'm reaching the page in error. So I guess my registration got eaten by the site getting slammed.

Guess I'll try again tomorrow =|

I was looking forward to unwind with some comics. What a disaster. Had a crappy day where nothing was going right and this just capped it off.

I wonder how many subs this will lose rather then gain. It's making me think I wasted a dollar, I can just imagine how I would feel if I spent $10 a month on this.

I think they were not expecting this many people to try it out, they've done sales like this in the past but the servers have not been hit this hard from what I've seen. Once they get it sorted out I think a lot of people will really enjoy the service, though it is a shame that a lot of people's first experiences with it will be negative.

I was subbed to this for a couple months and it was such a waste. Android app barely worked at all, crashed constantly and made it a pain to read. Is it any better now?

It really depends on your device. The app works fine on my Nexus 7, but I don't have any other Android devices to test it on. They have updated it recently, so your experience might be improved, no guarantees.

Hopefully they sort it all out quickly. It's normally great.

(Though I still managed to read through 15 issues of GotG this morning)

Its working fine for me and the service will probably improve when less people are trying to use it at once.

The people spoke, Cap gave up, crime was down, Tony wins.

guess I should also read the issues where Cap dies.(apparently this isn't up there, oh well)

and Punisher was the best character

Uhh, you sure? I think it's in captain America in 2007 sometime, it was definitely there a few months ago

After seeing 99 cent deal, I just had to subscribe to MU, since I've always wanted to dive into Marvel universe. And here is where the good part of the story ends.

Reading comics on marvel.com more or less, works (although, for someone that has little experience with different timelines and is clueless where to start, they could at least offer some kind of comprehensible guide, also, the website is quite slow most of the time, but this is probably due to high volume of traffic).

iOS app, however, is an entirely different story.

Over the years, I must have used hundreds of apps, but never one so broken as Marvel Unlimited app.

Most comics won't load, it keeps complaining that I don't have an internet connection (although everything else works perfectly fine, since my iPad is connected), comics I save in the library disappear as soon as I go to the library (they are visible for about 1 second), filter is laughable and some pages of the app see me as signed in, others require me to sign in.

I was so happy about this deal, but now, after experiencing all of this, I'm pretty sure I'm canceling my subscription. If this was their way of promoting digital comics, Marvel did themselves a massive disservice.

Is there any Marvel forum or something similar where I can send this feedback? fans.marvel.com was shut down some time ago.

I've never used Marvel Unlimited. I'm interested in how they handle tie-in issues for mega-events and crossovers. Does the service list reading order to make it easier to access the correct chronology?

Well I'm assuming its the issues that say "The Death of Captain America", it says there's no digital version and on my phone its all blank pages.

Sometimes the tags are off, so if you want to read a specific comic, you might want to search for it in different ways. For example if a comic doesn't show up under the proper series category, try doing a character search, and it might pop up. At least on the android app, this has occasionally happened.

These issues seem to be temporary and brought on by the 99c users, which is both good and bad

Good: it should be like this for long
Bad: very bad first impression when you are trying to sell a service

It's been fine for my until this trial started on ios so yeah

Doesnt matter, Super-Concentrations Camps and deporting people without a trial isnt that heroish after all.

can't argue with facts man, Iron Man got results and had the backing of the people, those heroes wouldn't be in jail if they signed up like the law says. Batman doesn't complain when the police go after his ass.

im unsure about the specifics of the law though, can you just give up crime fighting and they'll leave you alone? I imagine anyone with superpowers would be required but I mean street level guys like Daredevil.

oh and robot thor was a dumb move, I imagine real thor wouldn't take kindly to being cloned.

I just signed up and im overwhelmed with everything. Now I admit that I have a general idea as to what comics I want to read but the options are just so many! Any good events after WWH? wasnt there some skrull invasion that was planned or something?

They do sort all the issues under Comic Events and you can sort by release date. I'd still google a reading list to check if any issues are missing.

Yeah, one of things keeping me from comics was the backlog. I'm enjoying the Marvel Unlimited sub. One thing I would recommend is Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-men run. I love X-men but it's a very solid arc regardless of X-men fandom. From there, I've found just some Googling " *comic book character* best story arc/run" works well for figuring out things.

One thing I would say though, beware of old comics. Idk, could just be me, but they have not aged well IMO. I read the Days of Future Past issues the other day (2 issues, came out in early 80s), and it was rough. The writing style was not for me. It seemed like old comics took a novel and drew pictures around it. Newer comics read more like movies. It was annoying to read the thoughts and reasoning behind each character in every panel.

See above: try Astonishing X-men. One arc that seems pretty universally acclaimed is the Marvel Civil War from a few years ago. I'm gonna dive into that soon.

The purpose doesnt justify the Methods.
And I hate to pull a Godwin, but Hitler had the backing of the people, too.

those heroes wouldn't be in jail if they signed up like the law says.
Even criminals have rights and arent deported right away.

And registering and having your name a database with secret identitys is a good idea. After you finished Secret Invasion, you will see how insanely good this idea was.

Batman doesn't complain when the police go after his ass.
Batman isnt threatened with beeing thrown in a extadimensional concentration camp and wouldnt be lobotomized there.

When I remember correctly, you have to register even when you dont want to be a superhero.

oh and robot thor was a dumb move, I imagine real thor wouldn't take kindly to being cloned.
Read Stracynzkis Thor regarding this ;)

But maybe we should move this to the Comic OT ;)

It was working, and now it's back to not working. Also the android app is shit, random errors, crashing, signing me out, etc.

Edit: back to working lol. Also this is annoying.

The app chops off a good chunk of the side.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Oh wow, comics are FINALLY full-screen on Android tablets now. (I'm not getting cropping, either.)
I can't believe it took that long for them to take the hint but I'm subscribing now.

Oh, and speaking of Comicon promotions in comics apps, Comixology is having a huge Batman sale right now. (several hundred issues for 99 cents each, spanning 1938 to 2013)
