Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

Nah it's still pretty bad imo, it's just a few people wanting the game to be vindicated and be able to go "S-see? It's not so bad, we told you it would be better!", or maybe I'm just injecting my own headcanon into the types of people who would convince themselves that it was better even though it hasn't changed.

Well, it lines up with Nintendo telling us that it's the same build from E3. Either way, we know the E3 build was not the final build going by the treehouse staff talking about characters being better or worse in later builds.

I think people only interested in one version have in their heads they are the majority. But I would bet the overwhelming majority of Smashers are very eagerly purchasing both versions.

Has there ever been a poll? On GAF or otherwise? I know people make assumptions based on their local populations but I truly believe most people will have both. Melee sold GameCubes and Smash 4 will sell Wii Us, and I'm really surprised if most people buying the Wii U version will be able to resist buying the 3DS version day one.

We knew the E3 build wasn't the final build before that just because the smash direct footage back in may was more polished than the demo.

There's been a few polls, and I think "both versions" won out? The 3DS version will be great for practicing moves on the go!

Interpret it as me saying both versions will get plenty of discussion. Super Sah ain't alone!
Oh, I see. Well maybe you are right, but it is kinda sad reading so many people trashing or dismissing the 3DS version of the game.

I just hope the it doesn't become a "Brawl 2" in terms of popularity, mainly because so far I have no intention of buying the Wii U version.

A lot of people probably will buy both.

But I'd bet a large portion of 3DS users will trade it in/sell it/shelf it by the time the Wii U version comes out apart from the few people that actually spend a lot of time commuting and would get some use out of it.

Lol Brawl was incredibly popular... The numbers certainly dictate that not everybody feels the way JoeInky et al. did. Not to mention it's mechanically identical to the Wii U version!!

3DS will be this for me:
1. Let me play the game before the Wii U one comes out
2. Let me play multiplayer when i'm not at home and w/ friends who have it (rare)
3. Let me play single player content in bed to unlock and transfer stuff to Wii U.
4. Let me play a quick 'for fun' match before bed, or if online communities are well done, play w/ gaffers.

Sales do not indicate how happy people were w/ the product. A lot of people bought it because they liked melee... then ended up not caring for it in the long-term. (Not saying that's me, but that seems to be the impression i get)

Have in mind that I am talking about popularity in internet boards mainly.

I am aware that outside of the vocal minority of the fandom
who worships Melee
, Brawl was (and still is) an incredibly popular game.

I wouldn't be anywhere near as hype for Smash Bros 3DS if Kid Icarus Uprising wasn't as good as it was. Sakurai has shown he knows how to do a damn good portable game.

I think he knows that, that's why he mentioned "In terms of popularity" and not Brawl 2 "In terms of competitive viability"

EDIT: Nevermind I was apparently wrong! That doesn't happen to often wink wink nudge nudge.

3DS version buyer here
not a sah clone
I'm on the go a lot. And when I'm home, I only have a couple of hours before going to sleep so I just spend that time watching anime lol.

Also I don't know if anyone cares but the landing lag isn't changed at all in the SDCC demo, so it's not a new build, it's just because people want it to be faster but it's actually exactly the same and they've managed to convince themselves that it was improved..

Do you have a sense for how common the landing lag is? That is, we've seen some moves have a ton of landing lag and others have much less. Do most moves in the game have high landing lag, or is it just a select few?

Sah doesn't count
Zys5vCQ.png

Poor Sah :( But I'm a 3DSer, too - do I count?

Also I don't worship melee, if that's what you're implying.

I'd love the new game to be smash 64 2.0 but with some of the more modern smash mechanics and abilities.

I think most characters in the game have one or two aerials that have little landing lag but the average landing seems to be around brawl or sometimes a bit more/less for the rest of the moves, but there's also throws having a lot of endlag as well.

Oh, me too! Smash 64 still is my favorite.

I wasn't implying you worship Melee, but a lot of Brawl haters are admittedly Melee fanboys/fangirls.

I don't happen to share the love for Melee like many in the Smash community. I don't like the gameplay in Melee that much :)

I basically can't justify a Wii U in the upcoming months, so the 3DS edition is more than a decent compromise for me. Helps that they've made it better looking than 90% of 3DS titles and haven't had to make any changes in terms of content.

And honestly, Brawl was, anecdotally, very popular amongst my friends who would think "wavedashing" is a surfer move if you told them.

Smash U is going to be my go-to.

Handhelds makes me nauseous if I play them for too long.

I'll be getting the 3DS version too, but It's probably going to be stuck in a drawer once U comes out, unless my sister wants it.

I won't trash the 3DS version, I'm sure it will be a perfectly fine game.

I will dismiss it though because I see it as totally redundant. I don't take my 3DS anywhere, and I would never play the 3DS version over the Wii U version unless the Wii U game is somehow horribly gimped and terrible. Not really a safe bet.

So I could buy that and play Smash a couple months early... but that's not worth $40 to me.

And I love Melee's gameplay. I wasn't even aware of the metagame and wavedashing and all that until like 2007. Despite that, Brawl still felt really "off" to me right off the bat. Different, but not really in a good way. I don't really hate Brawl, but I can't honestly say I wasn't disappointed in how the game felt. Didn't even get half the play time Melee did.

Brawl also has the worst Captain Falcon and deserves to be scorned for that too.

I'd want it to be 64 2.0 just because that's what the game seems to be gearing up to be, there's a lot of references in mechanics, music and the UI to smash 64.

I love 64 and Melee equally though, both fantastic games (and 64 has the cooler Falcon voice imo which is always a plus).

It's why I'll never like Brawl, it feels like such a departure from the rest of the series (even smash 4 so far), and it did not go in a direction I enjoyed.

That is fine, you have fair reasons to not care about the 3DS version. I too have mine for not caring about the Wii U version.

By the way, will there be different OTs for the two versions?

I don't, but it is not because of wavedashing, L-cancelling and stuff like that. I just dislike how fast it is.

And I'm just jumping in the convo now, but is anyone ACTUALLY considering buying only one smash or the other? I just assumed everyone posting in this thread will be picking up both versions regardless of content or quality.

I don't personally know anyone else who's getting the 3DS version so there's no reason I should. And my brother's getting the WiiU version so I'll just play his copy.

I will be picking only the 3DS version. I don't have a Wii U and I am not feeling tempted to buy one tbh.

Well, Smash 4 seems to be kinda similar to Brawl... Even visually (menus and stuff).

Also I'm in a really rare situation where my three younger brothers (i.e. the only people I really play Smash with locally) all own a 3DS and will probably all buy the game.

I'll (probably) be buying only the 3DS version, since I don't have a Wii U and I'm not willing to spend all that money for just one game. Not that there aren't other Wii U games I'd want, but I don't want them enough to justify dropping $300 for a console. Smash 3DS looks to be a complete Smash game in itself, not an "inferior" or "gimped" version, so I don't think I'll feel like I'm missing out by not having Smash U.

I should add that I don't personally know many people who are really into Smash, so local multiplayer isn't a factor for me. If the 3DS isn't as good for local play, well, that makes no difference to me.

Gotcha, thanks.

I'm only picking up the Wii U version.

I'm sure the 3DS version will be completely fine, but I'd rather just wait to get the Wii U version where everything is HD and I can play with four people on one screen, etc.

Was playing Brawl with my sister, and found out that its possible to speed up Samus grab.

If you press forward + Z ( like using grab while walking/running), and then press back, the animation will play over thrice as fast.

:p

god, that would really be the worst. They wouldn't do that, would they?

....

oh god.

Either way, best case scenario is a veteran announcement which Im ok with. Im more interested in who they choose to announce. With all the Hyrule Warriors hype, Im hoping to see ganondorf revealed

I'm getting both and a 3ds copy for my child as well.

LOL, I bet they save the announcement for monday like they did at Evo and somewhat at the invitational.

For what it's worth, it's still technically Friday at SDCC right now. EVO final was at Saturday, and they did announce Pac-man in the evening of Friday :)

I would have only picked the Wii U version but since we don't know how long is going to be until it gets released. and i want this game as soon as posible, i am going to have to get both.

Well, Smash 4 seems to be kinda similar to Brawl... Even visually (menus and stuff).

I'm kinda hoping a lot of that is gone by the final release honestly.

That's also why I dislike that they're reusing Brawl's menu style (and making the layout upset my OCD because of how incredibly shitty it is), it's got that "here we go again" feeling except it's not a fun "here we go again" like C3P0 said, this time it's an actual "here we go again"
Yay more Georege Lucas ruining star wars references
