Thread title change needed asap. Thanks for the update.
There is no proof it was the same people. That was just the old mans assumption.
I need to ask a question to all the internet warriors in this thread who are so against what the old guy did.
How many of you have actually been robbed while in your own home? I'm guessing not many, if any at all. I can say with complete honesty that I have been the victim of a break and enter in the middle of the night while I was asleep in my bed. I was 14, and it was just me and my younger sister home while my parents had gone away for a long weekend trip. I can only assume the robber thought the house was empty since there wasn't the usual car in the driveway. Luckily, as soon as I heard glass break I was able to sprint to my sister's room which had a lock and a phone and call the police. I guess hearing me slam my sister's door spooked the robber so he got the hell out, but not before dropping and breaking our expensive LCD TV and stealing my bike on his way out from our unlocked garage. Anyway, without going in to more detail, it was a horrible and traumatic experience. Up to that incident I would always sleep with my bedroom door open, but after that I wouldn't be able to fall alseep without the door shut and locked, even to this day. For months after it happened thoughts like, "What if he comes back to kill me and my sister because he thinks we know what he looks like?" ran through my 14 year old mind. Your home is supposed a place where you feel safe and secure, strangers breaking in to rob and and/or hurt you completely takes that away from you. So even if this 80 year old man killed this girl more out of revenge than self defense, I can't say for sure that I would have done it differently, having been in a somewhat similar situation. (note: this isn't saying I wouldn't be remorseful after emotions calmed down, but in the heat of the moment people do crazy things.)
She probably wanted to use anything to save her life.
Which is what many would do when a gun is pointed at them ready to end their life.
He shot her in the back as she was running away. The only reason why he killed her and not her accomplice is because she couldn't run away fast enough. How is any of that defensive? How's it not murder?Let's see how level headed any one of you in this thread would be if someone broke into your home three fucking times, stole your shit and broke your collar bone. If you didn't even think, for one second, to defend yourself, your property or better yet, anyone else in it, then you have the most naive, bullshit pussy assed view of things imaginable. Some of you are so goddamn sheltered. I'm privileged as hell, but I at least have enough sense, perspective and some semblance of empathy to understand that it would be pretty damn hard to be cool and calm in a crazy ass situation like this. Y'all are out of your fucking minds.
At age 14?Did your parents get in trouble for leaving you and your sister unsupervised?
So she came up with a bullshit lie to save her worthless life after her 3rd attempt to rob this guy.
People here are attacking the guy who shot her? Look at this winner here.
I wonder if he was muttering anything to save his life as they were knocking him around ?She probably wanted to use anything to save her life.
Which is what many would do when a gun is pointed at them ready to end their life.
Tough shit. Maybe she should have thought about that before attacking him and robbing him for the third time.
I wonder if he was muttering anything to save his life as they were knocking him around ?
Her being pregnant or not did not have anything to do with whether or not he acted illegally.
But that's what you are advocating!
You can't execute people, and avoid executing innocents, with our current justice system.
Advocating to start increasing executions, including for lesser crimes, means killing more innocent people.
Was SHE the one that robbed him 3 times?
Has that been proven?

It has not been by the police yet. They should have police records and reports if he was.
To me it's a critical fact to the case as it goes to state of mind. If he reported 3 previous break ins...
Lesser crimes?
Which of what I mentioned is a lesser crime?
They knew exactly where his safe was. It was definitely them, or some other trash they associated with.
Okay, I'm just going to say something that is speculation, but how I do well.
If I chase someone off with a gun, off my property, and they don't come back, that's fine.
BUT, and this is the BUT... what if they do? What if they come back prepared, with guns, to kill me? What if they were only running to escape for now, and would come back later, armed?
This doesn't set a precedent. Surprisingly, the way the law works is that you can't just murder people for something they did in the past.It sets the precedent that a criminal is home-free so long as he gets off your property in time.
All criminals will consider property lines and escape routes now to better plan their crimes.
If he didn't shoot her, they'd both be back to rob him a 6th time.
He thinks they will come back. Now they know he has a gun. If they come back, they will come back with guns, and kill him first. They're not afraid to hurt him already. That's been proven. So, the threat isn't neutralized.
This is why we kill people in wars. That is what it means to neutralize a threat. To make sure no further harm can be done. It's a shame he's old and wasn't a pro-wrestler able to physically subdue the women, but he was definitely neutralizing a threat by shooting them.
"Preemptive self-defense", are you fucking serious? If he didn't shoot her, they'd both be back to rob him a 6th time.
I would argue what he did was preemptive self-defense.
Her being pregnant is completely irrelevant.
You defend yourself while they're in your home. When they flee and beg for their life you don't pursue and murder.Let's see how level headed any one of you in this thread would be if someone broke into your home three fucking times, stole your shit and broke your collar bone. So when they were beating this older man while robbing him you don't think he was begging. Or better yet do you think they gave a shit as you put it ? They chose to rob him they put themselves in this shitty position. He just happened to not care anymore .You defend yourself while they're in your home. When they flee and beg for their life you don't pursue and murder.
Yeah I wonder why someone would lie to save their life.
Jesus christ. It doesn't matter if she lied. In the moment, she was begging for her life and he didn't give two shits.
Her being pregnant is completely irrelevant.

.
Self Defense does not include possible future actions.
CBS2/KCAL9 legal analyst Steve Meister said the District Attorneys Office will look at several factors before deciding whether Greer should be charged.
He may face no charge at all, or he may face murder, Meister said. What if she were going out to retrieve a weapon of her own and come back and kill him? Is he supposed to wait until he sees a gun in her hand to prevent him and his family from being killed? No, shes already demonstrated her intent and her willingness to hurt him.
But what if the homeowner got really hot-blooded about the situation and was like, You know, Im just going to finish her off for the heck of it. Because I want to. Well, thats not self defense anymore, its murder, the attorney said.

America paranoia is why guns are legal. It's too funny.
I'm kinda worried that this guy next to me is "weird". I'm gonna shoot him in case something happens.
Did I say they're in the right? No.So when they were beating this older man while robbing him you don't think he was begging. Or better yet do you think they gave a shit as you put it ? They chose to rob him they put themselves in this shitty position. He just happened to not care anymore .
Not thinking clearly? He still doesn't show remorse for what he did. He doesn't care. They just broke into his house multiple times and beat him up. He probably just wanted to make sure they were not going to come back, he was angry and obviously wasn't thinking clearly. His territorial instincts probably took over and he just wanted both of them dead.
Break into someones house, be prepared to pay the consequences.
At age 14?

A guilty person begging to be spared after assaulting and robbing him ( possibly three times) Best way to avoid it from happening don't put yourself in the position in the first place. I'm not on either side. No one is innocent in this event.Did I say they're in the right? No.
They should be facing charges and jail time. The police should be handling this.
If you can't see how fucked up it is to see someone begging for their life and not care and continue to kill them then I don't know what to say.
Not thinking clearly? He still doesn't show remorse for what he did. He doesn't care.
He murdered out of revenge and that is illegal. Could he get away with it? Sure. But murder charges are being considered and for good reason.
While I'm not sure I'm prepared to take "sides" here, I would say this: the situation is clearly pretty complicated and I don't feel we should hate those who happen to be on the other "side."
If you told me an old man shot a pregnant woman in the back, I'd say lock him up.
If you added that he shot her after she robbed his house, I'd say that's trickier but still clearly illegal.
If you then added that he shot her after she robbed his house for a third time, I'd pause for a second then say it's still illegal and he should have called the cops instead.
If you then told me he shot her after she tied him up, broke his collar bone, and then robbed his house for a third time, I'd stop and say I'm not sure there is a clear answer to what should be done, as a casual observer of the situation.
I'd leave it to the courts, because that's not something I feel confident judging from my armchair far away. Really the only people I feel are being unreasonable here are those who feel the situation is simple: clearly he's a horrible old man and this is unquestionably illegal, or clearly he's a boss and anyone who tries to rob me will be shot.

I agree no one is. My point was merely the begging factor being used by the girl and the old man not caring . Did they have any remorse over their action. Obviously not.Nobody is saying the woman was innocent.

I agree on no one is innocent. It didn't happen but it very well could have happened that they could have killed him and took off. I'm sure he begged also until he got ahold of his gun. They only showed remorse after they were In to deep.I never said anyone was innocent. Everyone in this situation is gross.
I don't care about the robbers. What bothers me is that anyone could watch a person beg for their life and still with no remorse kill them. That's fucked up.
Why hadn't the police been involved long before this happened then? I haven't really read up on this case beyond what was in the OP. It seems like there's more going on than we know.
Heh, I fucking knew it.
