iOS Gaming July 2014: With Sunburned iOS Devices And Sweaty Fingers All Around

Just one thing to keep in mind with the Air: It does have a rather important ram problem that will make you refresh your open tabs more often than you'd like.
It can get quite annoying.
The next ipad better have more ram for this exact reason. It really gets annoying having pages load up every time I switch tabs. Especially when trying to post on gaf.

Guys, who can I put a credit card of mine in another country?

Or better ask, where could I buy digitally an itunes japanese gift card that isn't scammy or anything like that?

Yep I can buy you an iTunes card. Just ask for the equivalent in US $ on PayPal. How much do you want? If you tell me soon I can run out and get it for you before I go to work.

It has to get at least twice that. Apple has to do it this time. My 300$ phone (Oneplus one) has 3GB of ram for chrissakes.

I'm interested in Traps n Gemstones as well. They say it's MetroVania. Id get it if it's a solid MetroVania clone.

Seeing the main character, a Indiana Jones or Uncharted MetroVania would be awesome.
Here are my thoughts.
Traps n’ Gemstones was an out-of-the blue surprise for me. I had no idea the game was coming, but once I saw the screenshots and trailer, it was an instant purchase. Traps is a Metroidvania platformer, set in the sprawling hazardous caverns and rooms of an Egyptian temple. Every aspect of the game feels well crafted, from the tight controls and charming visuals to the varied puzzle mechanics. Fight enemies, unlock new gear, descend deeper into new areas and explore places that were previously inaccessible, find relics and treasure. Traps n’ Gemstones is just a fun polished experience, easily worth the price.
Easily my favorite game this week. Excellent game, and it's cool seeing the map fill in as you explore more and more of the temple

Yep. Frankly if I don't hear reports that they're doubling the RAM then I'm not buying the Air 2 or whatever the hell it's called. Right now RAM is crippling the iOS platform or, minimally, holding it back.

Been playing Swordigo again on my android phone. I forgot how great this game is. Really, it's easily one of the best mobile games available. I remember being repulsed by the graphics one. Today I find it really charming.

I'll boldly claim that the minute to minute gameplay feels tighter and more fun than any Metroidvania I've played. Running, jumping and slashing just feels right.

I need a sequel!

Would love, love a sequel.

I thought this would be a good place to ask. Which is the best website to upload pictures from your iPad? I've takes several pictures and screenshots of games on my iPad, but unless I send them to my email, open on my PC and upload them from there, I just can't seem to share them here. Imgur gets stuck while uploading and never end uploading the pictures.

Not actually that important

I just use the imgur app if I don't care about quality/compression or the Meow.chat app (minus.com) if I want lossless .png uploads.

I'm still hanging on to the old Minus app, still works flawlessly and it doesn't have the annoying chat bullshit. /bless
Official Flickr also does lossless and has built in iOS uploading too, but yeah Minus is my go to service. One could technically use OneDrive or Dropbox as well nicely (etc).
iCloud Drive in iOS 8 works for this purpose as well actually.

I'm gonna add 'Traps' to the OP later today.

I been going in a Cartoon Games buying spree and got this games:

Mutant Fridge Mayhem: Gumball

MutantFridge3.png

Might be the most awesome brawler I played in a long time, better than "Best Park in the Universe" (another one I got in this spree), less repetitive than Fist of Awesome or without so much IAP shenanigans like Combo Crew -MFM:G has IAP but its just for the impatient. Lots of humor, cutscenes, upgrades, combos, varied moves, awesome controls (half the screen to move the other to hit enemies), really great animations, 3 different characters, super moves, it excels in every single area of the game. And its done by one of the best iOS developers around: GrumpyFace Studios, makers of the excellent games Castle Doombad, Bing Me Sandwiches or Wispin. My favorite of the 3.

The Great Prank War

Another awesome game from Cartoon Games. Is a tower offense and defense at the same time, controlling two heroes each round that wreak devastation though the level. You have to reach the enemy base battling towers and grunts along the way while leveling up to get better moves. Controls work very well and you tap to move and double tap to attack, ...There is also an ability tree with many new moves for example. Its a ton of fun. The downside is that it is short. But NO IAP on the other hand and plenty replayable. Besides the fun, the next thing I like most about The Great Prank War is the amount of polish it has, it goes further than most iOS games. Recommended.

The Best Park in the Universe

Another brawler from Cartoon Network but this one is some steps below Mutant Fridge Mayhem, except one thing: doesn't feature IAP. Controls with swipes. Its not as well animated or varied as the other ones and the enemies pretty much do the same. And is not as polished as The Great Prank War but its also fun and a good alternative to the ones who are already done with MFM: G. Its good but it lacks the thing that made that one soooo good. But if you are in for another brawler, this is for you.

And another game that is not from Cartoon Network, released this thursday night: Panic Train

screen520x924.jpeg

An endless runner without IAP that plays like Bumpy Road, but this one is more of a platformer. You control the ground to evade obstacles, jump over enemies and collect coins to buy better karts. It is very twitchy and innovative, lots of challenging missions and good level design to keep you glued to it. Its a blast to play.

And with all this games and Traps N´ Gemstones (best Donut Games ever and the closest thing to Spelunky or SteamWorld Dig on iOS=pure awesomeness) I can easily call this the best week in iOS so far this year. Terrific.

Traps & Gemstones seems nice enough, although it is really too tiny on the iPhone. I don't love the virtual dpad and multiple buttons but so far it's easy enough that it doesn't matter.

Got into Cook, Serve, Delicious on my iPhone, when I noticed that I could not get past day 9, the game asks me to unlock the full game for 2.79 euros but I'm like 99% sure that I already paid for the game.

Is there a way to check this?

Used iTunes giftcards to buy stuff, was hoping I could find it in the history of the app store but there I can only see I once downloaded the game, not if it cost any money.

You should have received a mail for every purchase you did, so you could check those.
It's been ages since I've used iTunes but years ago there used to be a history of purchases hid in your account details, including IAPs.
I guess you already tried the 'restore purchases' thing in game.

Besides those methods...I do not think you can check a history of purchases (iap included) from an iOS device unfortunately.
It's something Apple should address IMHO.

Just nabbed Liberation Maiden for a buck. Held off on buying the 3DS version because I'm a southpaw. Best of both worlds: cheap and playable.

Not feeling modern combat 5, they gone with the smaller stages 3-star approach and the multi seems to be more streamlined, and the fact that I can't control it for shit which is odd because I was a beast in MC4 in the early days.

Maybe when pad support comes around.

Did you try going through with the full version unlock IAP? Even if you've purchased it before, it still brings up the price and asks to confirm the purchase. If you have purchased it, it won't actually charge you again, but rather give you a message that it was already purchased. It's that confusing messaging that many devs try to avoid by having a 'restore purchases' button instead.

Which is the better game- Final Fantasy III or IV?
Imo, between those two FFIV is a way more engaging game overall for various reasons, but what detracts most points from III is the awfully archaic save system that makes you replay whole dungeons if you die, with nothing to show for it.

Both games have temp saves that disappear after you load them, but IV is more mobile-conscious because if you die during any battle the game loads right before it regardless of where you are. Some would argue that this makes the game easier, I say it makes it less of a hassle and more respectful of the player's time. In IV I actually felt like exploring because I wasn't afraid of losing around one hour of progress due to some silly RNG.

Hadn't played III but IV is awesome, sadly I played in hard and got stuck in a part where I cant beat the boss because it kills all my party
after Kain becames your friend again inside that tower
and hadn't played it again, fuu could you help me?

But does IV have a great story?
It's decent and has some pretty nice character moments. III has basically no story though, so definitely go with IV if that weights in the choice between the two.

Hmm, I don't remember exactly what boss comes after
Kain joins the party at the Tower of Zot
but make sure you're not underleveled if it's killing you so quickly. Rosa's buff spells like protect and shell help too.

Yeah, I mostly only play Final Fantasy for the story and atmosphere. Love X, Crisis Core and FF XIV. Have a soft spot for VIII and XII.

yes, is the tower of zot, and I think that I'm already underleveled and don't know how I could run out of the tower

I've only played tinys bit so far, but I'm just hearing the extent of what Konami has done to Sword & Poker and it's bumming me out.

The Facebook stuff is especially repugnant (game progress is actually halted without Facebook referrals and other mechanics and even achievements are locked behind Facebook referrals).

Nope, I hadn't played ir but I had heard that is different from the main series

It has the best story out of all the FF games though, if that's what you're after. The battle system is also the best out of all the FF games (imo).

Release of the month for me personal must be Ingress. The Ipad mini is like THE ingress device of the year because of its battery xD

Hadn't played III but IV is awesome

If it helps, I've always argued the 3 is... kind of garbage.

Mainly the problem is it is sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow. There isn't much story to speak of, the characters are boring and while the battle systems are fine, it still isn't fun because of the before mentioned pacing issue.

FF4 is certainly the much better buy.

I honestly prefer to get FF VI but IV is on sale. I also plan on playing through all of the games in the series.

Are you sure? Appstore shows the usual price for me. Appshopper doesn't have a pricedrop registered either. Last sale was back in Februar, and judging from SE's previous sale-pattern on IOS, we have to wait until December for the next one :-/.

FF4 is on sale on Android though!

Apparently a KOF '97 and a Metal Slug Defense sound pack will be coming to Rhythm of Fighters sometime in the nearish future.
