So was Turok 2008 our last decent chance at Hot Dino battle action™?

I loved it overall, though that cargo elevator segment seemed disproportionately "challenging".

People warned me about that.

I got through it the first time on-stream without dying. lol.

(and then proceeded to die about five times directly afterwards)

....so

Bought this at a local Gamestop for just $5. Evidently finding them out in the wild isn't that easy, especially finding one in almost mint condition like I did. Just bought a new green DVD case, swapped out the artwork and now the game looks mint (^____^)

Haven't played through it since it's original release, so I'm going through it on the highest difficultly. Having just finished 1999 mode in Bioshock Infinite, Turok doesn't seem bad at all. Dudes go down without too much fuss as long as you're dual-wielding.
So yeah, other than the too stiff at times aiming that you have to overly finesse as not to overshoot, I'm enjoying the ever loving shit out of it again!

Thanks again Bish and RIP Propaganda

Getting 1000 in Turok is still one of my proudest gaming moments. Glad you were able to get a newish type copy from gamestop.

Still have my preorder box and copy from day 1. Buying Turok 2008 over DMC4 which I think came out the same day was my best decision ever.

Sucks that propaganda is gone now. Though we have gotten a Turok game every gen so I wonder who will cover the reigns this time if it happens.

Hope it can be a spiritual succesor to this Turok. I much enjoyed the scifi setting over the Indian and wackiness of the N64 game/comicz

truth

Still hate games throw up MP chievos/trophies though :(

I still find this game's voice cast rather insane (and awesome too obviously) and would LOVE to hear how it all got arranged...

I honestly was expecting a dino dlc for Red Dead Redemption after the success of Undead Nightmare. Could you imagine how fun it would be shooting T-Rexes and shit in that game? Hopefully they do it for Red Dead 2 :D

Secretly hoping this is what they have planned for Far Cry 4 :)

OP, it's been a while but if you're still looking for a fun dino game and you have a PC I recommend you check out ORION: Dino Horde (It's bad timing though since the game was just on sale for $1)

It's a reboot of their first version of the game, Dino Beatdown. Which was HORRID, hence the metascore. It had good graphics and a good premise but it was unbelievable glitchy and with bad performance overall.

But they devs worked on it nonstop for over a year with the help of their players to fix all of its problems and now the current game is a solid 7-8 title. Check out some vids and see what you think, if you're not fully convinced you could always wait for the inevitable sale. It's a blast to play with friends.

I actually played this, the Dino parts where really fucking good and I wish there was more exploration in them. The human parts where extremely boring but the tree fight in the end was pretty cool.

Overall it was a what could have been. Making it a typical linear shooter really limited it.

Playing far cry 3 made me yearn for an open world Dino game.

Why have I only just discovered this!

I played the shit out of that! ... was there not some sort of expansion pack too or maybe a sequel?
There's a sort-of update available on PS3, it's not bad.

is the pc version of turok 2008 easy to find? I don't think i have seen it any digital store
Pretty much impossible at this point. Rights have reverted so you won't ever see it available digitally. Do what thou whilst, I guess.

Disney had something against putting their PC versions digitally.
EDIT:Plus like Bish said loss of license means it would have been pulled anyway.
Though the box copies are still easy to find and cheap.

I'll buy your book, Bish.

I slept on this when it came out and now all I have is a PC. Shame I can't play it now, I'm definitely interested from this thread!

Really? I've been looking locally for a while.

Actually you're right.
Just noticed a lot of the box copies are from Europe online.
Though at this point I think finding Turok PC locally would be pretty tough.
I can hardly find games that came out last year.

that's a shame. Game looks fun and I always wanted to check it out. Guess I will go look for a used PS3 copy :/

I really liked the 2008 Turok and had hopes for a follow up. I was sad when Disney started dismantling their game studios. I figured that would be the end for the series.

I would love to see a open world version of Turok. Kinda like the last few FarCry titles. A Dino game like that would be awesome.

Like others said hopefully the dinos in Transformers and Jurassic Park will help give the property another chance.

Edit: That Pirates of the Caribbean game they canned looked good too.

Imagine if someone would make a game that's tonally and atmospherically level with Alien Isolation but for dinosaurs. I'd love a horror FPS (Oculus pls) where you're sent to a remote island to clean up an JP-esque experiment. Systemic and non-linear gameplay with that setting would make me super happy. No scripted encounters -- dinosaur behaviours and movements would all be influenced by environmental factors/simulation. Maybe things like the island and dino turf would be procedurally generated/randomized: raptors might have nests close to the facilities you need to access on any given playthrough or it might be on the other side of the island.

Yeah, this is bumming me out. This thread made me want to play it, but I really don't feel like buying a DVD drive just for one game.

I'm wondering if revisiting Evolution is a good idea. I still have my old PS3 copy, but I remember enjoying it and I'm not sure if I want to risk tarnishing that memory.

So even though the combat scenarios/gunplay can be unwieldy at times (especially on Inhuman), the bit where you just come out of the caves with your newly acquired shotgun and proceed to do coop dino-battle action™ with Ron Pearlman, is a fucking blast.

Like, the game needed a horde-esque mode just for this :)

Fuck you for bumping this thread and making me remember not only a game i really really loved but also the painful cancellation of the second one (the concept art from the canned sequel were fucking ACE, spiky dinos FTW). :d
Jokes aside, you'll appreciate this kick-ass dinousaur experience!

Bish, c'mon spill the beans... i know you have cool stuff to tell, i can't buy you a coffee from here i'll offer you a dinner the day you come to Milan. :)

This game was fun, not as awesome as the original Turok 1 and 2 for the N64, but still good. We need more dinosaur games, not zombie games.

Surprised no one mentioned how cool it was you could impale soldiers to trees using the bow. It was disappointing to hear the sequel got canceled, the concept art I saw looked like a huge step up.

I'm also one of the ones hoping for a remake of Seeds of Evil, keeping the fog and everything. The razor wind was so bad ass.

I would pay so much money for that game.

I remember playing this with strangers and it was crazy fun to chase everyone in a circle with a knife. Knife trains were SO TENSE! loved it.

Turok is being remastered, apparently: http://seriousset.com/

Welcome to Serious Set, a faithful resurrection of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter using Croteam’s Serious Editor 3.5 tool set. We’re working to recreate one of the greatest games that came out of the 1990′s, and in doing so, reintroducing a classic to a new generation of gamers. While we are committed to remaining faithful to the experience of the original, the possibilities of SED 3.5 provide us with the tools needed to expand what made Acclaim’s original Turok game so great.

Just starting out, we’re hitting the ground running. We’re getting situated in development using the SED3.5 tool set, acquiring various 3rd party assets to help pull apart the mysteries that are Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, and doubling down on Lua to design unique scripting that reproduces the original content of a Nintendo 64 classic.

There is also a new Turok comic going on right now. Maybe someone will become interested in it again because of that?
