For the ones interested, according to the dev, Motorsport Manager has been submitted to the AppStore.

Just bought Cook, serve delicious! after playing the demo, but it has installed a whole new game, putting the tutorial up in front of me again. So no way to just upgrade the lite version via IAP? I guess you only lose a couple of days progress, but it does seem a little clumsy

Can't decide on Minecraft, San Andreas or Modern Combat 5.

How's Modern Combat 5 online?
Picked up San Andreas a few days. Pretty amazing that I'm playing it on my iPhone. Controls pretty well IMO. It's a GTA game, so you probably know what to expect

Minecraft...is Minecraft. The recent update really improved the game for the better. Haven't sunk much time into the newest version though

Haven't played MC5

I guess it all depends on your tastes. Do you want something fast and enjoyable, with competitive multiplayer, FPS action? MC5

A focus on exploration and discovery, crafting, a slower pace? Minecraft

Full out console experience, huge time sink, a lot of controls? GTA

Anybody played Revolution 60 yet? Just came out this week. Impressions?

http://www.revolution60.com

It's a really weird game:

- It's got the artstyle of an N64/Dreamcast game (reminiscent of Space Channel in some ways)
- The gameplay is composed of 3 phases: Dialogues (Mass effect-style choose your own adventure with 24 endings), combat (real time but top down and quite simplistic) and exploration where you also have to do quite a lot of QTEs.

I'm actually quite looking forward to play more of this because it's quite unique and it came out of nowhere. It's made by a women-only dev team and the production value are really great (and it's powered by the Unreal Engine).

You can try it for free anyways so you'll be able to judge quite fast if you like it or not!

I hate that SNKP always updates first for android and then for ios without giving a date

Yeah, I didn't realize that was a common thing for them. Very annoying! Shouldn't be too long, tho, right? The other pack made it out not so long after I think.

2 weeks if Im not wrong, oddly enough, the 1.3 update for metal slug defense was announced earlier, yet both releases were given with 1 day of difference

I have been traveling a lot lately and need some really good iPad games. I loved the original Infinity Blade and recently I have played the Room 2 and Monument Valley, both of which were excellent. What are other games that are of this quality?

If you enjoy tower defense games, I recommend OTTTD and both Kingdom Rush games. OTTTD is free at IGN, too!

Picked up some more ios games over the weekend.

But I just hate how it doesn't feel like I own these games! Whether they're free or paid, the damn IAPs makes them feel like I'm just leasing them.

Not a good feeling. :(

Examples?

That's a very odd feeling to have.

Well, there's a decent chance (~10-20%) two hardware revisions and 3 or 4 OS upgrades down the road that your game from 4-5 years ago won't run right. Maybe that's what is meant. I don't see purchases on iOS as owning really, considering in 10 years (instead of say 5 earlier) most of the things probably really won't be supported on the newer hardware. iOS tends to break a lot of stuff every upgrade, whether software or hardware.

I think he meant for IAPs though, I'm not sure what games could have so egregious IAP options in them.

I'd never really thought about the games not working any more in the future though, I suppose you're right there. I think I'm over this issue following the generation change though, all those 360 Arcade games I'll never play again :(

A good developer will keep their shit up to date imho, look at Canabalt as a good example (although it was broken for a while).

As long as I always have Hearthstone...

I may be reading wrong all the signals from Simogo twitter...but I do think they are about to announce/tease/show their next game.

Hype!!!

EDIT: YESSSSSSS....they are uploading a REVEAL TRAILER.

Ownership on iOS is definitely more flimsy than consoles or PC, because you never know for sure whether a developer will create a horrible update. I've had more than a few apps go from paid to free, and fill the app with adverts. Chuck's Challenge and Denki Blocks are two good examples.

You can backup the IPA, but this is a pain to maintain, and you never know how many gens of iOS will work before killing your apps.

I sometimes wonder how long it'll be until there are 'retro' iOS apps. There must be some appeal in playing the first-gen iOS games.

Any good word game recommendations?

I'd put Disney's Words of Wonder, Letter Quest: Grimm's Journey, Word Mage and Spell Rift at the top of the list if you haven't checked them out already (then there's the obvious Words with Friends / Scrabble if you want multiplayer).

Have they given us an ETA as to when to expect Hearthstone on smartphones?

No schedule, but it's actually perfectly playable right now if you jailbreak, a video was posted in the Hearthstone thread recently:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqVo3TBEpP0

It looks like it plays a lot better than I expected it to, so I can't imagine they have all that much work to do to get it playable. That said, it's Blizzard, so if we see it out by November that's probably ahead of schedule.

Of course, if there's a 5.5" iPhone out around then too (even a 4.7" model would help a ton), I can't imagine there'd be any issues at all controlling the game.
