Sorry but I guess I'm gonna be against GAF's consensus on this one.

I really liked the movie. Didn't love it but I seriously wondered where the hatred for it came from by the time the credits rolled. It's not a perfect movie by any stretch of the imagination, but no superhero movie is. There are some weird scenes and some really shit dialogue, but it was beautifully shot (it is a Zack Snyder movie after all), casting was spot on (except maybe for Amy Adams as Lois Lane, but more Amy Adams is always a good thing) and overall it was really enjoyable.

The flashbacks never felt confusing to me, except for the one where he's a kid and he pretends to be a caped hero... who is he imitating exactly? It can't be Superman.

My other major grievance it's the overdone Jesus analogy. It was reeeeally heavy handed. Making Clark be exactly 33 years old when he first puts on the cape? Come on, son.

I also thought the complaints about them destroying the whole city were greatly exaggerated. The giant machine makes the most damage, and then Supes and Zod destroy maybe 5 buildings at most, and mostly because of Zod not holding back.

But yeah, both me and my GF really enjoyed it and are really excited for Batman v Superman now.

Let the shitstorm begin.

Agreed. Not a perfect film but not terrible. People said the flashbacks were confusing but Batman Begins basically had the same structure.

I love that final fight between Superman and Zod. To me, it really does feel like that's how two alien gods with these insane powers would battle each other. Starting from Zod in despair in the middle of that crater to Superman dropping in front of his body, loved it.

This is the thread we needed. The Gadot shaming thread was dying down.

Agreed OP. I quite liked this film. My only real issue was that tornado scene but I always have issues with self-sacrifice in movies. I don't buy moments like that because they are so blatantly not human. Especially with the way they did it. Goddamn peaceful wind overtook him.

Tornado scene was a good idea horribly executed because you don't feel the weight of Jonathan's death.

He just looks at his son and is all like "I must go now, my people need me."

"Welcome to the planet" is a great line to end a Superman movie with.

Henry Cavill was well cast, Hans Zimmer's score was nice, and the action was good too.

These are all the nice things I have to say about the movie.

Love the movie.

Saw it 5 times in the theaters (normally don't do that).

Watched it multiple times on bluray (normally just buy them and let them sit).

All the complaints about no humor and dour mood can go STRAIGHT to hell. If BvS has a bunch of shitty sitcom humor I will be beyond pissed.

It's rough around the edges it was ultimately very good. I can only hope that they push the comic book influences even more while ignoring Dark Knight Returns as much as possible

MoS has the some of the best fight sequences of any superhero/sci-fi/fantasy movie.

The movie only gets better with rewatches. I liked it at first, on my 3rd rewatch I really loved it.

that zod speech when he takes over the worlds communications is till the highlight for me.

I'm with you 100% OP.

Not a perfect movie, and the only huge problem I had was with the tornado scene, but everything else worked out just fine.

Exactly. That's why I never buy that mess. He was too calm. Whenever I see that in a narrative it pulls me right out because no one would ever do such a thing. Yea great, you had this beautiful moment but you still have to be tossed around in a tornado.

Or burn alive
Or drown
Or crash onto the rocks below

It rarely works.

Alright I'm out of here before this thread gets bad. I want to lurk from the shadows.

Reminds me of the scene in Volcano when the guy sacrifices to save the people in the subway. He just melts into lava peacefully.

Doesn't even scream or move. He just dissolves slowly, like a candle.

I also very much liked this movie. It wasn't perfect, there were three or four scenes that were dumb, but otherwise it was good.

One of my favorite things is that for once Lois Lane was not a dumbass.

It's not really a Superman movie if:

a. Lois Lane isn't conveniently everywhere when there's danger and

b. Superman isn't there to save her at the very last minute

Faora > Kal-El

I hate this movie, Snyder's directing is something I can't stand. It felt like the longest trailer I've ever seen in my life, all those grey colors, I wanted to punch every character in the face. The only one I was sympathetic to was the bad guy, good job writers.

I felt it was throughly mediocre. The product placement in particular seemed way too prominent and took away from the awesome Smallville fight. Pa Kent was also really really dumb throughout the movie. And the tone jumps around way too much at the end.

Then again my favorite superhero movie is Iron Man 3 so maybe fuck my opinion.

Also this. The movie was way too dark and it made everything look bland.

IM3 was a great ride though. MoS was a glorified trailer with good music and action.

Instead she is used as an earpiece for the audience to receive some lazy exposition. The scene when she is walking through that ship with holo Jor-El was dumb as fuck.

I'll stay nice and just say that the fight scenes were freaking awesome to see and as much hate as Hans Zimmer gets, I really liked the OST. Oh, and I liked Lois in this movie, which is a first for anything Superman for me. That's basically all I got for saying anything nice.

I really like this movie and as mentioned above the soundtrack is fantastic (a few songs in particular). I even really like the tornado scene and the bar scene which cop so much flak. There were moments i didn't like but overall i really enjoyed it and it's a movie i'll keep going back to. Shame we will never get a proper sequel.

While the movie looks insanely cool, it completely lacks any tension what so ever. You are watching a fight between 2 immortal creatures.

Yeah, it's a good film. Whenever you see GAF railing on something, it's almost a 100% guarantee that there's some major exaggeration going on. Man of Steel being a perfect example. It's like the detractors latched onto one tiny complaint and beat it like a dead horse.

It was ok. It went overboard with having too much action but at least it was less boring/weird than Superman Returns. Cavil is a solid Superman.

I don't understand much of the hate this movie gets.

-okay, the product placement was excessive

-the script could have been a lot better

but the action scenes were incredible, i'm not normally a fan of hans zimmer but some of the songs are really good. i loved how krypton seemed like a real world, with its own lifeforms and ecosystem.

The scene where clark flies for the first time was gorgeous.

No Marvel Studios film has come close to making me feel the excitement and awe I got from watching Man of Steel.

Wanted to love the movie as I was hyped through the roof but I couldn't.I loved the fight scenes but that was pretty much it.

The dialogue was crap, the motivations were iffy, the pacing was terrible, the plot progression made little sense, the fucking digital zoom, etc. Honestly most of my problems are with the script which is why Chris Terrio is such a relief to be writing BvS and possibly Justice League.

On my planet, that means hope.

I'm with the OP. Watched it for the first time last night and found it to be a pretty good time. Great casting, nice pacing, lovely effects. Liked it a bunch.

I dont know, I cried at the scene :/

I don't understand the product placement complaints. It's not like they once mentioned the name of the product or did anything with it. It was either in the background or part of the location. So they fought in an IHOP, who cares?

I dont know, I cried at the scene :/

My issue with the scene is two-fold.

1) Clark could've supersped over to Jon Kent and saved him. By putting the fear of God into Clark re: his powers, Jon essentially bullied/mentally abused his son to the extent where decades later he was still pretending he was normal. Which is pretty fucked up.
2) Jon Kent tells Clark not to save him, but Jon goes and saves... the dog? What sort of mixed message bullshit is that? The original death with 'heart attack' 'I can't stop death' resonates far more, because it takes the choice out of Clark's hands and forces him to understand that - as powerful as he is - he can't cheat death.

Here he learns that if someone doesn't want to be saved, let them get sucked off by a tornado.
