Are you aware of the concept of opinions?MOS is the best Superman movie ever. Before watching it in the theaters I re-watched all prior Superman films, none of them are particularly good and don't compare favorably to MOS.

"Never" showing his power wasn't the idea, it was keeping it hidden until Clark was ready, which turned out to be finding out who he was and where he came from. Jonathan always told Clark that he'd change the world someday, good or bad. His upbringing allowed him to become Superman instead of possibly something else. The kid that shunned his father before the tornado scene wasn't quite ready yet to be Superman.

I will politely disagree with you. While MoS has better action, and honestly, is a an entertaining movie that I think gets a lot of unfair hate...
superman 1 and 2 has the godlike john williams music. Margot kidder as lois is the near perfect actress for lois. Chris Reeves is incredibly charming and he made that silly costume work. Gene hackman and marlon brando are just icing on top of the cape...I mean, cake. oh and terrence stamp as zod was a great choice.
Even Reeves can't make it work now, looks dumb as all fuck after seeing Cavill suit and type of body I mean lets get real here.
Could be for nostalgia reasons you like it?

There's more to movies than CG. And MoS hasn't much to offer outside of that.Even Reeves can't make it work now, looks dumb as all fuck after seeing Cavill suit and type of body I mean lets get real here.

Could be that besides the outdated effects the first two Reeves films are just superior films from a movie standpoint.
Because they are.
So the best way to teach him is to have Jon commit suicide by tornado?
Clark spent sixteen years after that finding himself, so I'm not sure Jon Kent accomplished much save for making Clark into an emotional cripple.

bro, I rewatch supes 1 and 2 a few times every year.
I am not your enemy. I know what it feels like being frustrated after seeing all the MoS hate on the net.
I take a corny and dated movie with actual heart over an empty shell of CGI that beats you over the head with script stupidity, christ "metaphors" and shameless product placement. The only superior thing is the main theme and thats it.
The movies are just corny and sometimes cringeworthy, I have no nostalgia glasses and even my big and eternal love for all things Superman can't make me see things that are not there anymore.
Those movies are dated and no longer work, sorry bros.

Damn man, sorry, its just I get mad lol.
Sorry bro.
Can't possibly criticize a movie without "hating" on it.The hate for this movie is strong, god damn!

but, it is heartwarming to see so many people defending MoS.
I was a superman fan when I was 5, 24 years later he's still my fav superhero, he'll still be my favorite when i'm old and grey.
But again, the film proves Jon Kent wrong. Consistently wrong.
I get the intent. I do. It was just badly handled IMO. Which is sad because I don't hate the film, except for those flashbacks. The destruction doesn't bother me, the death of Zod doesn't bother me, what bothers me is turning Jon Kent from a warm father into a 'gee, Clark, don't save me when I'm about to die because people might see... but I'm going to go save this dog GOD-DAMMIT.'
Yeah the jesus thing was overplayed, didn't care for the tornado death scene (I don't think I've met many people who have) and it had weird pacing.
The other stuff, the destruction and all that I can accept. I think some people have this view of Superman, its more inline with silver age & the Christopher Reeves movies where Superman pretty much never "loses" and has an answer to everything.Superman literally put on his cape like days before he fought Zod, it's expected that he will be rough around the edges. I like the character development and I think a lot of the destruction will play into BvS and how Batman reacts to it.
IIRC Snyder says the kid cape thing is part of his kryptonian heritage, like some genetic memory that makes kryptonians attracted to red.
So long as BvS doesn't have any kid flash backs and super heavy religious overtones, I'll appreciate it much more.
Yes, Kal-el will always be my fav superhero, and it happens that I really love how Cavill portrays him, of course I loved how Reeves portrayed him too back in the day.
I really wanted to see MoS2 over Batman vs Superman and have it deal with clark kentat odds with lex luthor instead of having every superhero under the sun join in the movie.daily planet reporter
It wasn't a suicide, it was a sacrifice amidst a situation he found himself in. He didn't actively seek out a tornado with the intentions of killing himself.
And I think youd be surprised to find that I loved everything about Jonathan Kent. I loved his protectiveness, even when it made him sound like an asshole. (Maybe.) And I loved, loved, loved that scene where Clark didnt save him, because Goyer did something magicalhe took two moments that, individually, I would have hated and he welded them together into something amazing. Out of context, I would have hated that Clark said Youre not my real dad, or whatever he says right before the tornado. And out of context, I would have loathed that Clark stood by frozen with helplessness as the tornado killed Jonathan. But the reason that beat worked is because Clark had just said Youre not my dad, the last real words he said to Pa. Tearful Clark choosing to go against his every instinct in that last second because he had to show his father he trusted him after all, because he had to show Pa that Pa could trust him and that Clark had learned, Clark did love himthat worked for me, hugely. It was a very brave story choice, but it worked. It worked largely on the shoulders of Cavill, who sold it. It worked as a tragic rite of passage. I kinda wish Id written that scene.
But you're here talking about it. Love it, hate it, or whatever, this movie sparks discussion. Can't possibly criticize a movie without "hating" on it.
I don't care enough about Superman to actively hate MoS.
Product placement didn't bother me at all. Literally every major brand shown has a store within a 4 minute drive of my place. I mean the movie takes place on Earth, people. Those places exist.
But you're here talking about it. Love it, hate it, or whatever, this movie sparks discussion.
Other movies in the genre have very little and weak LTTP threads because people really don't care to talk about them anymore. *cough, Marvel, cough*
People who didn't get Jon Kent, likely don't have kids. He knew the bullies couldn't physically hurt his son, but...
"Did they hurt you?"
"You know they can't."
"That's not what I meant. I meant, are you all right?"
If you're an adult (still into superheroes) with a half decent dad, you should be no stranger to being physically stronger and more capable than your father, maybe having more abilities (being more well off), and yet he'd still sacrifice his all to protect you and keep you safer, even if you'd be the "logical" choice to take the hit.
Despite Mark Waid's problems with Man of Steel, Jon Kent's parenting and the tornado scene wasn't one of them.
You don't say...
I thought Man of Steel was alright, but the tornado scene and the ending bugged me no end. Far too grey as well.
Are you aware of the concept of opinions?
Like Mandarin.Yeah no one is talking about Marvel at all.
Edit: maybe it's because Marvel actually gets their characters right!
Liked this movie except for theSuperman kills Zod scene. It goes against the core of the character imo, and he didn't have to do it. If he can twist his neck, he can lift the guy's head up and away.
To where? What are you going to do with Zod? He is out to kill the entire human race.
Personally, I like that he did it as it gives him a reason to never do it again. It was obviously a painful thing (emotionally) for him. He didn't do it casually. He was literally begging Zod to give him another choice. Because of how traumatic it was for him, he'll never do it again.
If there's one thing I could like about the ending, it's the conspiracy theory that came out of it. Nonsense of course, but entertaining to think about.
Oh what's that? I missed it.
