Not even half way done.

God help me.
Should we be expecting a more positive or negative view of the game?

Noooo
what!!

Yupp. Lighting. Notice the White balance is way off. The background is very blue/purple and the black has the same tones. I would split the difference between the two shots, but the colors should look closer to the first photo.

Here's a very quick color balanced correction based on the white.

Anyone have a count on transforming vs static stages? I get the feeling the former's a lot larger than the latter...

I don't have a count, but I agree. I want more "boring" stages. Give me a few more great-looking stages with rearranged platforms and different blast zone settings.

Yup, it's a sword.

I mean what's so fancy here, really. That it can glow and grow a beam-sword extension? Is that really enough to differentiate an entire different fighting style?
The Monado is a tool for altering reality. It starts off as a weapon that can only cut things, but later on allows Shulk to see the future by predicting how matter reacts to given situations. Changing aspects of time and space lets Shulk make him/his friends stronger and faster. It's basically the Infinity Gauntlet except stronger

Seriously

Animal Crossing New Leaf // Animal Crossing WiiU?
Mario Maker
Game and Watch Gallery
Unnanounced new 3D Mario game we already know is in development

Not even joking

Captain Toad uses Amiibo I think.

I doubt there will be an AC for Wii U. New Leaf is only a year old, and given the way the Wii U is performing, I bet they'll just wait for the next console.

New Leaf is 2 years old in Japan and by the time it releases there on Wii U it'll be around 3 years.

I had to deal with people telling me that Lil Mac will be boring because he can only punch. It sucks. =/

I feel you. I'm not exactly knowledgable about sword fighting compared to fist to fist combat, but I know there's so many different styles to it. Though I don't think Smash is the game to translate the complexity of such a thing into the game. It's not like Marth and Mac are faithful to what they're based on, because they didn't need to. Ike as well to...whatever the hell that is. Still, I feel like Takamaru could easily be different aesthetically and functionally from other sword users if you put some thought into it. I really doubt his exclusion was due to being another swordsman, because that honestly comes across as narrow minded to me.

Funnily enough, I wasn't specifying Takamaru at all in that post.
I'm over the mixed feelings I initially had to Taka's AT positioning. I'm just happy to see him introduced to a new age of gamers and in Smash at all.
I was moreso referencing the short conversation between Tathanen and the Shulk supporters a few posts ago.

Haunted Towers is seriously the best mansion in the game.

I wasn't a fan of the mansion itself - I liked the Old Clockworks and the Secret Mine better, and I think they'd make better Smash stages - but yes please to HT's music.

New Leaf is 2 years old in Japan and by the time it releases there on Wii U it'll be around 3 years.

Yeah, Berordn corrected me on that - I had forgotten about the big delay between the Japanese and North American releases. That does make an ACU game more plausible.

Oh yeah forgot about that. Good point!

You could. If the sandwich looks crappy, ask them to redo it, exactly as shown in the commercial and they should. If they don't, whether you want to or not, take it up to there manager and report it.
Do you like floor burger? Because this is how you will get floor burger. Although I'd laugh if someone made a burger with paint, cardboard and inedible pastes for you, since that's the burger like it's shown in the advertisement. You'll never get a burger exactly as shown in teh advertisements in a fast-food chain, as long as all ingrediences were properly used you don't really have grounds to complain, at that point you just waste everyone's time (including other customers).

I think sakurai maybe feels like he doesn't have to add as many 'boring' stages this time around since you can just 'final destination' them. A bit unfortunate, but it may be the reality.

Little bit of both!

That's reassuring. I'm expecting some negatives about speed and landing lag and what have you, but if there's positive impressions that's a good sign. I'm not expecting melee 2.0 but I'm interested to see what thoughts are

I don't think you could split them like that--there's too many different variables in these stages. I'll try listing it out.

3DS Version
Battlefield: Static
Final Destination: Static
3D Land: Scrolling
Rainbow Road: Traveling
Golden Plains: Scrolling (sort of, moves to static locations at timed intervals)
Paper Mario: Transforming
Gerudo Valley: Static
Spirit Train: Transforming
Prism Tower: Traveling
Arena Ferox: Transforming
Reset Bomb Forest: Transforming
Boxing Ring: Static
Tortimer Island: Randomized Static
Balloon Fight: Randomized Static
Living Room: Transforming
Find Mii: Boss?
Tomodachi Life: Static
Wily Castle: Boss
Pac-Maze: Static
Jungle Japes: Static
Green Hill Zone: Static

Wii U Version
Battlefield: Static
Final Destination: Static
Mario Galaxy: Static
Mushroom Kingdom U: Transforming
Skyloft: Traveling
Pyrosphere: Boss?
Great Fox: Static? (based on previous Great Fox levels)
Pokemon League: ??? (I am guessing Static or minor Transforming)
Coliseum: Transforming
Palutena's Temple: Static
Garden of Hope: Static
Boxing Ring: Static
Town and City: Static (very minor transformation)
Wii Fit Studio: Static?
Pilotwings: Transforming
Windy Hill: Static
Wily Castle: Boss
Pac Land: Scrolling
Halberd: Traveling

That's my best attempt at categorizing them.

I could see Sakurai justifying the lack of "boring" stages by saying that most stages have an FD version, even though that's not really a satisfactory alternative.

Man, seeing it listed out this way, we really have had a lot of stages revealed already.

Shinobi (Similar design from what I remember and he has a shuriken and the scroll thing on his back).

Also he's a literal Ninja turtle, so I guess that's why it was originally conceived as an idea.
I always liked the TMNT alts he would get in the Brawl mod textures, but this take on it is good too.

Won't lie, the Haunted Towers music is the biggest reason I even want a LM2 stage.

Oh my bad then. :P

So it's tuesday, which means another project m alt costume is revealed, this time, it's shinobi squirtle.

That's pretty cool :)

Let me know when they have a Squirtle with "Kamina" Shades & Cape like that Squirtle Squad Captain had. That will be the best Squirtle costume.

This is pretty sick. I would be stoked in Nintendo treated these guys are a third party for costumes and stuff cause they certainly know fan service!
But it'll never happen, the big N is scary.

Has an official big console publisher ever brought on modders to do something for them? Seems like it could be a legal issue waiting to happen (to say nothing of having to acknowledge hacking of their system).

Since the builds that have been shown was the same one from March, do you think Nintendo did that on purpose? I mean from the invitational and all the other stuff they've done with the fighting game community, I think they might be listening to feedback so they can do something about the game since the latest build has not been shown.
Or Nintendo just recognized its bastard child... ;_;

I can't speak for console publishers but dedicated and passionate modders look really good to companies. I saw an interview with Todd Howard (if I got his name right...) from Bethesda and pretty much said if your passionate about it and can show your work to prove it, you got a chance with us. However, since Nintendo is Japanese, this is quite a culture thing so it probably wouldn't happen. Is Retro the only American third party Nintendo has in the States?

So you're suggesting a sword/magic user then? With light moppy hair? HMM.

Not really feelin it. But I'll allow it if it gets me a Gaur Plains Wii U stage.

Haha, fair enough!

And yeah, part of the appeal of Shulk is the inclusion of a kick ass Xenoblade stage. Imagine the screenshot possibilities...

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with listening to feedback, NoA might try and look like they're taking on notes, but I highly doubt any of that reaches Sakurai and if it does, I doubt he'd care.

The reason they haven't used a new version for the Demo is because making a demo isn't as simple as just taking the current version you have and only letting people play in vs., there's a lot of work that goes into polishing a demo that could be better spent working on the game, especially when the E3 demo is good enough for the majority of the gaming community.

Not related to your quote, but I just wanted to say that I'm about halfway through case 2 in AAI2 and I hate your avatar so much.

Man, seeing it listed out this way, we really have had a lot of stages revealed already.
And yet if the two versions are to meet or exceed Brawl on their own (and they damn well better or the decision to split the stages between the two versions was a very silly one) we're still behind in reveals I'd say.

Well, with Brawl we had 24 stages revealed by release, not including retro stages. With 19 new stages revealed for the 3DS version and 18 for the Wii U, I'd say we can probably at least expect the same amount of stages as Brawl had for each version. If you consider the fact that we're still missing stages from quite a few franchises and that Sakurai has been less revealing about content with his Miiverse posts, I'd say there's not too much to worry about.

Very sound and probably accurate. Man, if this is the case, can't say I'll buy Smash 4, probably stick to PM...

Balloon Fight: Randomized Static

Wii U Version
Wii Fit Studio: Static?

That's my best attempt at categorizing them.

You beat me to the punch, but two small things. Balloon Fight doesn't seem to be random, since we've seen different shots with the same layouts. We've actually only seen two so far.

Wii Fit Studio has the giant balance boards as platforms sometimes, and it seems to change throughout. It kind of resembles Fountain of Dreams, but with walk-offs.

By transforming I mean that instead of being focused on one area/platform layout, stuff keeps on changing. At some point in the match, the game shifts focus from keeping the opponents off the platform to keeping yourself on. Some people might call these stages gimmicky.

By my quick and loose count that's 22/40 non-static stages across both versions, or 55%.

For comparison's sake:

64: 0/9, or 0%
Melee: 7/29, or 24%
Brawl: 17/41, or 41%

Eep.
