Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

Absolutely. It can do more than just grow, as there are several Monado skills from Xenoblade. Such as:

Monado Shield

Monado Speed

Monado Enchant

Monado Purge

(I couldn't find an image, but it's essentially a projectile attack)

Monado Cyclone

All of that, plus the ability to the see the future (which could potentially work as a counter move of sorts), his natural skillset (EG: Stream Edge) and some Monado skills I didn't bother listing (like Monado Armor, Eater) are more than enough to give him a Smash moveset. You can't justify comparing him to Chrom (who lacked any unique skills in FE:A)

The Monado is a tool for altering reality. It starts off as a weapon that can only cut things, but later on allows Shulk to see the future by predicting how matter reacts to given situations. Changing aspects of time and space lets Shulk make him/his friends stronger and faster. It's basically the Infinity Gauntlet except stronger

Seriously
Deserves to be requoted. The Monado barely resembles a normal sword other than the fact that you hold it and it cuts things. There are tons of hype things the Monado is capable of and that's already ignoring spoilers. Saying that Shulk wouldn't be unique is like saying that Captain Falcon isn't unique because he doesn't punch things differently enough from Sheik.

The whole sword thing generally just bothers me because it feels like sword users are scrutinized way more than any other type of fighter when there's really no meaning in what the sword means for how they play besides slightly more range and a disjointed hitbox. Smash isn't the kind of game where choice of weapon ultimately mean much. Ike and Link have as much in common with each other as Fox and Mario. They use swords and Fox and Mario punch and kick things (and have a ranged neutral B, I guess). That's where parallels end for either.

Well, with Brawl we had 24 stages revealed by release, not including retro stages. With 19 new stages revealed for the 3DS version and 18 for the Wii U, I'd say we can probably at least expect the same amount of stages as Brawl had for each version. If you consider the fact that we're still missing stages from quite a few franchises and that Sakurai has been less revealing about content with his Miiverse posts, I'd say there's not much to worry about.
Actually, you're right, I just went to the Dojo to count--at approximately a month and a half to release, we had 20 stages revealed for Brawl, and we currently have 21 stages revealed for the 3DS version (taking into account retro stages for both).

We actually only had 21 non-retro stages revealed for Brawl before its Japanese release though--though Final Destination and Port Town weren't unlockable, they weren't actually shown on the Dojo until after the Japanese release. Which is pretty funny.

Banjo and Kazooie, Battletoads, Killer Instinct, Jetpac, Diddy Kong Racing Characters and Jet Force Gemini might have all been in smash in some way by now if Nintendo never lost Rare.

Playable Characters, Trophies, Assists, Stages... All gone just like that.

You beat me to the punch, but two small things. Balloon Fight doesn't seem to be random, since we've seen different shots with the same layouts. We've actually only seen two so far.
For Balloon Fight we know it has more than one layout, and I can't imagine any other method of transforming (thanks to the screen looping) other than it being different when it's loaded, like Tortimer Island. That's what I meant there, not necessarily true randomization.

By transforming I mean that instead of being focused on one area/platform layout, stuff keeps on changing. At some point in the match, the game shifts focus from keeping the opponents off the platform to keeping yourself on. Some people might call these stages gimmicky.

By my quick and loose count that's 22/40 non-static stages across both versions, or 55%.

For comparison's sake:

64: 0/9, or 0%
Melee: 7/29, or 24%
Brawl: 17/41, or 41%

Eep.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "transforming." Is it stage whose layout changes in any way? In Brawl, for example, Pokemon Stadium, Port Town, Flat Zone, Pictochat, and Castle Siege all changed layout, but they were all different types of changes, and they occurred in different ways. Were they all "transforming" stages?

Oh yeah, good point. I forgot being surprised to see Port Town once the game was released in Japan, which happen to release on my birthday. All those leaks...best birthday ever.

Yeah

I wonder when they'll be confirmed for Project Spark
That Conker bullshit still pisses me off. I want you to be good again Rare, even if I don't own an Xbox One!

I honestly don't think it has anything to do with listening to feedback, NoA might try and look like they're taking on notes, but I highly doubt any of that reaches Sakurai and if it does, I doubt he'd care.

The reason they haven't used a new version for the Demo is because making a demo isn't as simple as just taking the current version you have and only letting people play in vs., there's a lot of work that goes into polishing a demo that could be better spent working on the game, especially when the E3 demo is good enough for the majority of the gaming community.

I really hope you aren't trying to construct a narrative where either NoA is only pretending to take feedback and/or if every change you want isn't implemented then Sakurai must not care about your (as a group) opinions/feedback :/

I can't speak for console publishers but dedicated and passionate modders look really good to companies. I saw an interview with Todd Howard (if I got his name right...) from Bethesda and pretty much said if your passionate about it and can show your work to prove it, you got a chance with us. However, since Nintendo is Japanese, this is quite a culture thing so it probably wouldn't happen. Is Retro the only American third party Nintendo has in the States?

Bethesda doesn't make consoles (so they don't care about hackers) however and I don't equate PC modding to Console modding since the later is opening up a closed system and often a gateway for piracy. Notice that while Nintendo is aware of Project M and has never made a move to interfere with it, they didn't acknowledge the game in "Player Achievements" in that one woman's profile who was at the invitational? Hiring Project M team members would be a tacit approval of their activities and as a console manufacturer, they can't do that.

When I saw the Amiibos in real life I thought they looked nifty enough. But then againI was happy with McDonald's free Mario toys so I'm not exactly a stickler for quality.

Pretty big. They say not even the length of the Empire Porky Building could match him.

Perhaps RomanceDawn could help us out.
Okay, cool. Just wondering.

On the topic of Ridley, for those that may have missed RagnarokX's amazing pic last night:

Look I know we like to have fun around here but joking about Ridley being too big should be serious offense around here. I mean I like to play sure but you guys just take it too far.

God damn. Sounds like you work in the industry my friend or just research well enough...

Gotcha, wasn't sure if you were saying it was the same generation as Tortimer Island.

I genuinely believe the NoA reps that were taking down feedback were actually noting it down and hopefully sending it to Sakurai, but I have no confidence in Sakurai as a developer to listen to feedback and instead just make the game he personally wants to make.

Sm4sh might be fixing a couple of problems with Brawl but for me personally it's hasn't been enough to repair the damage it caused to my opinion of him as a developer, hopefully the final release will change my mind but whenever I read comments he makes pertaining to the competitive community it's always knocks that hope down a peg or two.

The bad thing about Paper Mario being on the 3DS is Sakurai said those stages would only have two musical choices.

I bet he might do a song though that switches between different songs as the stage changes though.

the only ridley-related offense that should be banned on gaf is "toobigots"

keep that term to miivese and smashboards where it belongs.

Eep.

I would use another definition. By your "focus on keeping yourself on the stage" definition we have the following "transforming" stages in SSB64:

Dream Land (Wispy Woods will try to blow you off)
Sector Z (dodge Arwings instead of attacking the opponenent)
Planet Zebes (run away from the acid)
Mushroom Kingdom (Pipe randomly leads into the pit; platform can fall down)

When I saw the Amiibos in real life I thought they looked nifty enough. But then againI was happy with McDonald's free Mario toys so I'm not exactly a stickler for quality.

Pokemon Black & White toys were really well made, I was expecting something better than that, but that Marth Amiibo... looks... oh.. looks like a freaking amateur garage kit figure :c

Anyone read the newest leaks from Smashboards?

>Dixie
>Shulk
>Chorus Men
>Ridley
>Bowser Jr (riding in the mini clown car, 7 koopa kid alts)
>Mewtwo
>Duck Hunt Dog

Mentions of Ice Climbers, Snake, Wolf and Lucas being cut. Maybe saved for DLC?

Sadly Dixie and Ridley are the only ones who have only been speculated on for what ever reason. Also aside from foul mouth guy, the others are reputable as far as I know. Oh and no one knows if these are all the rest of the newcomers.

It's worth a look that's for sure and I mean we are getting extremely close to launch, someone is bound to leak something. Still even the guys who leaked this stuff are saying take everything with a grain of salt since they didn't see everything for themselves.

EDIT: Wait can I even post the link? I forget how things work around here sometimes.

By my arbitrary classification, yeah. I can totally appreciate playing on any of those stages, but usually after a few months of playing the game my friends and I narrow down to a smaller set of stages that we consistently pick - and typically those stages consist of more static stages. It'll be interesting to see how FD mode changes that, if at all.

Smashboards full of nonsense more than usual

That's one of the worst fake leaks I've seen in a LONG time.

Edit: 7 alts is even less believable than duck hunt dog.

No K. Rool and definitely no Ice Climbers = fake.

I think some leaks will suggest that a really outlandish thing is going to happen because on the off chance it does everyone will go "Well this guy must have insider information because how else would they have known that?".

Uh, any particular reason to believe them...although...

I want this. :0

I quite literally scoffed after reading that

and I've never scoffed before o.o

Also a few posts above.....I agree with JoeInky. I don't think any of the feedback will reach him, although I'm a little more optimistic in the enjoyment I'll find in this game compared to Brawl.

Why do people think K. Rool will be in? I haven't beaten Tropical Freeze yet, but I'm pretty sure he's not in that, which means he hasn't been in a mainline DK game since DKC3.

Concerning the amount of Mario stages revealed so far (4 3DS stages!), I thought I'd look at how many Mario stages there are in Brawl.

And there are a lot of Mario stages in Brawl. More than you'd really think, too. Just by going on the series symbol, there's six, counting the retro stage.

Delfino Plaza
Luigi's Mansion
Mushroomy Kingdom
Mario Circuit
Mario Bros.
Rainbow Cruise (Melee)

Which is pretty crazy, when you consider that the next highest amount any franchise has is three, the franchises being Donkey Kong, Zelda, Metroid, and Pokemon. But that's not really the whole story there.

Because Mushroomy Kingdom is actually two stages in one--it has both the 1-1 variant and the 1-2 variant, both which have completely unique visuals, layouts, and music choices. So seven? But there's even more here, if you look outside the stages with the mushroom symbol.

Yoshi's Island (Melee) may have the Yoshi symbol and was considered a Yoshi stage in Melee by the denomination, but the game it's based on is Super Mario World, which I think most people would rightly consider a Mario game, not a Yoshi one. So eight?

But not so fast, because 75m, while nominally a Donkey Kong stage, could just as easily be considered a Mario stage--you played as Mario in that game, not Donkey Kong, and Sakurai considers the game to be the origin of both series.

So, when you really break it down, Mario has like nine stages in Brawl.

Delfino Plaza
Luigi's Mansion
Mushroomy Kingdom 1-1
Mushroomy Kingdom 1-2
Mario Circuit
Mario Bros.
Rainbow Cruise (Melee)
Yoshi's Island (Melee)
75m

And that's crazy compared to any other franchise in Brawl. Makes me wonder where they'll draw the line for the 3DS and Wii U versions (sitting at four and two Mario stages, respectively).

I would do very dirty things for K. Rool to be in a smash game. Ridley too, hell throw in Ganon too! We need one more villain, any bright ideas?

I do not believe it because Polar Bear is a Smash Run enemy, which means Ice Climbers are probably not cut. I can believe the other three though.
Also, it is a bit too optimistic in terms of new fighters. I think Chorus is going to be a reveal with maybe Shulk. Mewtwo/Ridley may also show up either as a fighter or boss. Dixie is also a good guess. I just do not think the others have any shot at getting in.

First of all that's wrong.

And the main reason is people seeing the Kremlings being acknowledged in Smash Run, K. Rool is going to be in the game in some form higher than a trophy or sticker, be it boss, assist or playable.
I think K. Rool, Mewtwo, and Ridley are going to be playable bosses. Just a guess...

Salt in the wound that is Bowser's FS still being Giga Bowser, instead of the Koopa Clown Car, droppin' lead marbles on the stage

DK64 is technically a mainline Donkey Kong game, it's just as often referenced in Smash as any Donkey Kong Country.

He was also in Donkey Kong 64 and all of the Paon spin-offs. Being the primary antagonist in four high profile games is a pretty big deal. The only thing K. Rool lacks is relevancy, but I hope Sakurai looks past that and adds him for other reasons.

I used to laugh at Porject M getting further and further away from their original mission but that Squirtle costume just seals the deal.

Yeah, bullshit. The Koopa Kids are nothing like each other (in terms of physical size and personality), and they certainly aren't anything like Bowser Jr.

That's understandable. Though in this case it works out somewhat because apparently Bowser Jr is always in the clown car(probably mini version) with it doing the real fighting.

Here is the link. Just take a look at it.
