EA announces Subscription Service for Xbox One ($5/month or $30/year, get game vault)

Wait... It's only a 2 hour trial of the game, not the full game, for $5 a month?

Yeah nevermind, ill just wait for launch day and get the game for $40 with no tax. At least I'll have resale value too.

Yeah, weird. I guess that's how their wording it :/. Grapevine suggests this isn't some crazy Microsoft moneyhatted exclusive. Guess we'll find out soon enough!

How legitimate are these kind of statements of partnerships in the first place?

No offense, but PR lines like "we sent engineers" or "MS and Activision worked together to make CoD best on Xbox" type statements are often "ehhhh..."

Not saying they're lies, but hyperbolic aren't exaggeration, similar to how SSM is credited with games that their only involvement is acting as a producer.

I am still surprised how is this news not getting a big spot light on media "All EA games will be playable 5 early on Xbox One Exclusively". And we are talking about the full game here. Isnt this too good?.

Yeah and you dont have to buy the actual game right?

So if something theoretically like Dead Space 4 came out, I could jam through the SP in five days and since I have no interest in the MP I'm good to go.

Thats crazy if true!

seems like a very good deal
but for digital only user

I prefer my games on Blu-ray
also, it's EA... I don't know why, but I'm cautious to give them money after BF4 fiasco

I'm honestly thinking this was in the works at the same time as their original DRM that flew over like a lead balloon.

The result of the backlash is much better. "Your choice. Buy a used game published by EA for $19.99 or sub with us. You get a rental of our vault for $5 for a month, or you can keep it going for $30 a year."

Ya but I doubt if the whole game will be open. Most likely first few hours? And yes you dont have to buy it after. If you dont like it.

Indies will always be there to give us some new and fun experiences, but I think that if services like this become the norm then it will be very difficult for any AAA game not made by EA, Activision, or Ubisoft to compete against the backlog of popular titles that many potential customers will have.

Ya'll can laugh at me of you wish, but it just seems so obvious that this will be a threat to smaller publishers. How does an extremely affordable game library containing some of the most popular titles not pose a threat to studios that will crumble if their next big budget game underperforms?

No idea, but it all sounds very flowery to me.

Another thought.. Imagine how this could backfire for EA if most games people would normally buy during retail release ends up being a lot smaller on the x1 side because people rather wait to get it via subscription? Seriously.. Why buy a game that could possibly be in the vault within 6-9 months?

Welp, it's all over suckers. In five years when your all complaining that here's no original games because EA, Activision, and Ubisoft all have their own subscription services and other devs can't break even then just look back at this thread where everyone is lapping up dat $30 price tag from a company that is routinely villainized on this very website. Here's the future: you get your indies on PS+ and Xbox Games with Gold, your AAA games from the subscription services of giant devs, and your other games from nowhere else because it's impossible to compete. Have fun.

Are you serious? You think Bungie themself would lie if MS sent their engineer was a lie? Or just a PR line?

And I have never heard the COD statement before.

Damn. Sounds great.

Also, I just checked my Xbox and I'm downloading the app right now.

The way I see it, at $30.. if I buy 5-6 EA games a year (not likely to happen), the service is essentially free.

If the early access to the games keeps me from purchasing a POS game at least once per year, then it is worth the price.

Very cool idea from EA. Hopefully they don't goof this up and it truly becomes an actual benefit to gamers..

I'm not saying it's a lie, I'm saying it's not necessarily as grand as it sounds. COD Ghost had MS engineers too sent to IW, for all the good that did. It could actually just be two guys giving advice on optimisation, not a full-blown tech wizardry partnership.

Eg. Sony Japan is credited with Bloodborne, but how many people from Japan Studio are actually working on the game? Is it just producers, or are there more?

There are COD/MS statements, but what I put there is not the actual statement, but it's still something that praises the collaboration as pivotal to delivering the experience.

Unless I'm missing something this does not entitle you to their myriad of DLC and microtransactions. So let's say you purchase DA:I:

DA:I = $54.91 w/ 10% discount
Microtransactions = $2.70, $4.50, $9.00 each
DLC = $13.50 or $27.00 each

So EA is getting a $30 yearly subscription on top of whatever other money they squeeze out of you. This is not a good deal it's a charade with the aim of locking in further purchases of additional content and BS microtransactions. How are people not seeing this for what it is?? This is EA. Have we learned nothing from the past 2 years?!?

Why are you ignoring the other games that you didn't buy but get for "free" in this equation?

Getting FIFA 14, Madden 25, Peggle 2, Battlefield 4, and any other games they chose to add as time progresses for $30 a year is a really bad deal, yep. You nailed it.

It's a great deal, the only big ??? is how the vault will look over the course of months and years.

Even then, if you're a big fan of EA Sports games, it's highly likely one wouldn't be disappointed, because sports games are the prime candidates for always being a staple of the vault.

Ok, go to GameStop today and get Battlefleid 4, Madden 25 and FIFA 14. Let me know how much you spend. It should be around $120 for all three used. Yeah... no, this is a pretty good deal, you're just full of fear mongering shit.

Man I'm tired of EA giving other platforms the finger in favor of the Xbox :/ It's only logical to conclude that MS made a deal, otherwise they would be leaving a lot of money on the table.

No need to be mad, companies (also) do deals with Sony to give Xbox the finger.

Also.. you can NOT use any money you have in your MS account.. you MUST sign up with a Credit Card as they want to set a renew date.

See this guys? This is just the beginning of the EA stank that's gonna be all over this. You just wait and see. It will be a cold day in hell before I "subscribe" to the company nickel and diming their customers at every opportunity. Wake up people! I can't believe you guys are falling for this.

Oh lord...

This is an ok deal IMO, with the potential to be great if (When?) sometime in the future you could use the same subscription to get games on PS4 and PC

Umm, isnt this standard procedures when signing up for a subscription? Things that are under a subscription normally have you sign up with an actually credit card because...well how else would they charge you on a continues basis?

Some of you have said that you have already download the app and started the service. Everywhere I look says that it is coming soon.

Can someone confirmed if you can start this service right now? I cant seem to find it on the Xbox One dashboard.

Its a subscription service. That can't be tied to your MS account. Why do you think Netflix, Spotify, etc...use credit or debit cards. Because you can automatically charge a balance to them each month. Not possible on a Microsoft account .

Everyone who purchased a subscription remember to turn off auto-renewal on xbox.com.

Click on "My Account" then "See all Subscriptions". There you will see the option to turn off auto-renewal next to the renewal date.

Chicken little is that you?

Would you say the same for PS+ or Xbox Live Gold? Same shit. Free games and discounts on games, subscription services.
