Giant Bomb #8 | It's a Hit!

Absolutely. Danny just fits in as one of the gang. The Wednesday show didn't work both for the reasons you said and because some of the people they were playing games with weren't great fits. Let's play God of War Ascension with a guy who's a bit robotic on camera, there's nothing interesting about that. Danny O'Dwyer playing Hatoful Boyfriend, now we're talking.
I think the GS mandate to basically cover all games doesn't fit with the GB mandate where people play the games they like (and give Alex shit to review).

So having Patrick play Atelier was a complete waste of time, because he didn't give a shit and no one else on the team wanted to engage with him while he was playing the game.

Now admittedly I haven't watched a single episode of The Lobby after the very first one, so maybe I'm not really looking for that kind of coverage from these guys any more anyway.

Danny fits.. somehow. He has the right mindset and personality for it, I guess. Like, for example, when he brought that old top-down war game, it was obvious that it was a game he had a history of enjoyment with, and he knew a great deal about it - it made the segment fun and interesting to watch.

Professional Wednesdays always felt so forced when I saw it - it had a very rote and artificial presentation. Plus, the Gamespot guys had no charisma at all during the show; I don't know if that is just how they are or what, but it made the whole thing very unwatchable. All in all, there just seemed to be nothing interesting or fun about the event, and it always made PW seem like a corporate attempt at merging the GS and GB audience, instead of something made for the audience.
The GS guys treated it like a show like The Lobby, while the GB guys treated it like a jokey livestream. Hence, it all fell apart.

I think the main problem with the show was that it had the feel of the "cover everything" mantra that Jeff and Ryan went away from when creating GB. The goal of the show was to showcase every notable game released that week, and that just felt like it went against the spirit of GB.

edit: Stop making my points before me, firehawk12! You motherfucker.

You both make good points, I never really thought of GB that way but it entirely true.

Speaking of their coverage, I'm still waiting on the Divinity: Original Sin review by Giant Bomb.

Don't let meee doowwwnnn, duders!

How dare Giant Bomb throw a Mario Party while all their friends at GameSpot are getting laid off. Did they even think to invite any of them? No!

It's offensive, and I don't stand for it.

GB needed a reason for more Mario Party streams... Now it has them.

A Gamespot Farewell: Mario Part 2-9 coming to a Giant Bomb near you. They'll play 50 turn games for the FULL FAREWELL EXPERIENCE.

Blame Dan. He's an insensitive jerk that gets off on other peoples misery. I mean just look at his face and his cold dead eyes. It's no wonder he knows nothing, his head is all filled with hate and malice with no room for pop-culture facts and common knowledge.

That's what you get from being a paper plate shoebox eater! lol

I think they were doing them a favour. I wouldn't wish what shall be from now on called The Shoemaker's Pain on anyone.

Jeff has mentioned why it didn't really work. They assumed that given that Gamespot reviews nearly every game, they'd be able to talk about that week's releases in an informed fashion. What they weren't counting on was that Gamespot outsources those reviews to freelancers.

I must say, Dan's enthusiasm and positivity have given the site a shot in the arm. He is the bizarro Jeff, and I love it, egg whites and all.

Wow. I find that crazy, given that he ran Gamespot and himself freelanced out a lot of reviews. lol

Once Upon a Time, Patrick Really Loved Konami Music Games (Premium)

This is probably gonna be an old video of Patrick playing rhythm games at a "high level" (mainly DDR). He mentioned on a recent Bombin' that he might upload those for people to see, and here it is.

Hyyyyyype! If you don't have a subscription by now, get on it!

I think he'd be more partial to Dance Dance Revolution than Beatmania.

Bemani was the "label" Konami put all their music games under, so DDR, Beatmania, DrumMania, GuitarFreaks, Dance Maniax, etc.

Also who the fuck knows what "Bemani" means anyway? "Konami Rhythm Games" is so much more descriptive.

Yeah. Konami Rhythm Games brings to mind DDR for me. I had never heard of Bemani.

I think I took that as in SF, you have to recycle everything, where as in Minneapolis or whatever, there is no recycling program and people just throw all their garbage into one giant pile like savages!

But maybe it's funnier if you take that as Dan not knowing about recycling at all. lol

We totally recycle stuff in Minnesota. Aluminum cans included.

Dan just doesn't know things. But that's okay.
