I think the GS mandate to basically cover all games doesn't fit with the GB mandate where people play the games they like (and give Alex shit to review).Absolutely. Danny just fits in as one of the gang. The Wednesday show didn't work both for the reasons you said and because some of the people they were playing games with weren't great fits. Let's play God of War Ascension with a guy who's a bit robotic on camera, there's nothing interesting about that. Danny O'Dwyer playing Hatoful Boyfriend, now we're talking.
So having Patrick play Atelier was a complete waste of time, because he didn't give a shit and no one else on the team wanted to engage with him while he was playing the game.
Now admittedly I haven't watched a single episode of The Lobby after the very first one, so maybe I'm not really looking for that kind of coverage from these guys any more anyway.
The GS guys treated it like a show like The Lobby, while the GB guys treated it like a jokey livestream. Hence, it all fell apart.Danny fits.. somehow. He has the right mindset and personality for it, I guess. Like, for example, when he brought that old top-down war game, it was obvious that it was a game he had a history of enjoyment with, and he knew a great deal about it - it made the segment fun and interesting to watch.
Professional Wednesdays always felt so forced when I saw it - it had a very rote and artificial presentation. Plus, the Gamespot guys had no charisma at all during the show; I don't know if that is just how they are or what, but it made the whole thing very unwatchable. All in all, there just seemed to be nothing interesting or fun about the event, and it always made PW seem like a corporate attempt at merging the GS and GB audience, instead of something made for the audience.
