Naughty Dog absolutely disgusting TLOU:R MP monetization

It does feel pretty cheapskate from whatever party it is that decided practically everything of value but the weapons get to be rolled into the Remastered version.

Yeah. Pretty nice move, just added even more worth to the season pass for me personally. For all the hate season passes get, that's one thing ND did right. They added a lot of value to it, by making all the extra items free. (Except for the killer bundle, which I can use on PS3, but not PS4, which is weird)

Totally, I admittedly barely played any of the Multiplayer DLC so I probably could have bought Left Behind separately and been happy. But with TLOU on PS4 I have a ton of friends getting it who previously never owned a PS3, so we'll probably sink a fair amount of time into the Multiplayer - having all that DLC included because of my PS3 Season pass purchase has made it feel like I didn't waste money :)

I'm not really sure why this thread is only happening now, they announced this would be the case months ago and barely anyone bat an eyelid.

Only if you suck you can really think that DLC makes a change in the way you win.

It don't, go practice, stock weapons are as powerfull as you are, same with the DLC.

Please for the love god stop bringing up presets. The preset abilities are only level one and the idea that using an enforcer exclusively in a preset class is okay is bloody mind boggling.
Shhh, it's ND! they can't do wrong!

The preset perks are not all level one; fortitude, gunslinger and agility are available in the their max level. I am merely stating facts, I have not commented on the ethics of the dlc so please do not assume you know my stance.

just because it's in a preset loadout, does not make it fair or ok.

I've been enjoying the MP for the most part, but now I'm starting to see players running around with these purchasable items, completely owning most others. When it's on even ground, it's fun. This kind of shit kills MP for games. I imagine the player base will be low soon for MP.

Having more than 100 hours into the mp, I'm more inclined to say these players would be owning regardless of dlc weapons or not. Seriously while it's not fair not having them available for everyone, it really isn't a big of a deal as some people are making it out to be.

I'd even argue the best weapon/perks combos are the free ones.

Fairly surprised that they didn't include this weapon and perk DLC.

People have been trained to expect that near full price rereleases of one year old games, whether they be called "GOTY Edition" or "Remastered", includes every piece of DLC released so far.

I like how nobody had a problem with it untill the Ps4 version came out.
I think that still nobody has a problem with it, but many people don't really understand it and get angry for no real reason.

Exactly my point. Nobody gave two shits when these perks were first introduced or when the news broke they would not be free. Would have totally devalued the season pass owners too. To put that perspective out there as well.

Except that you paid for it.

I paid for 2 map packs and 1 single player dlc, since that was all the season pass would entail initially and I was completely fine with that (I bought the season pass knowing that was all I would get). All they did was offer me more value for my money, which I'm even more fine with.

Funny enough, The Last of Us MP is one of the few MP where I felt I can always go back to it and do good. Last time, I popped it in again after not playing it for a decent amount of time and was able to rank some nice kills after warming up a bit. I looked at the new DLC but none of it was interesting or worth equipping so I was still rocking my favorite load out that I've had since the game came out.

hmmm.... after living through the forza 5 super-inflated drama, I sure as hell am bookmarking this for future reference.

ENFORCER IS OP!!!

Seriously f that weapon. Disgusting accuracy, large clip, quick rate of fire and downs in 4.....its a fucking pistol for gods sake. Sorry I had to get it out.

On topic I think anyone whose played MP for a while knows you don;t need any of that. The starting weapons are all you need to take down anyone.

Hunting Rifle/ Burst Rfile
Magnum
Shotgun

Thats how I roll. Shotgun is the greatest weapon in the game.

So you're saying that you knew about it but wasn't bothered by the paid weapons and perks? I personally found out about it recently and was surprised no-one made a fuss about it on Neogaf all this time.

Yo also fuck those smoke bomb shiv users.

Cheapest thing in this game. The amount of people I see just rushing ahead or throwing a smoke bomb on the floor when you confront them and somehow not effecting them is stright up BS. Instant kill.

This bit is important, if this is the case, these should be pointed out in the OP. We should know if a certain perk is completely behind a paywal or just not available for custom loadouts.

------
Doesn't this tip the balance:
"Level 2 - Automatically pick up ammo and supplies from kills
and enemies drop double the ammo."

I'm new to it, but isn't this overpowered? Does the guy even have to come near you to pick up the ammo, for example?

The bolded isn't as good as it sounds. It doesn't automatically pick up dropped ammo and parts from across the map, you still have to get in close as if you were to pick it up manually. The only thing it does is spare you from pressing triangle and having to watch the quick pick up animation, which could potentially leave you vulnerable for a split second, but whether it's worth the loadout points is another question.

I'm not defending this practice as a whole and i haven't bought the season pass or any dlc, despite playing the mp quite a bit, but i feel like some people getting outraged over the DLC weapons don't know that you don't start a match with these weapons. They are purchasables, i.e. you have to do good first and earn a lot of parts in the match before you can equip them and even then you're doing it at the cost of getting armour or upgrades for the starting weapons instead. The purchaseable weapons also cost loadout points, all of which balances out any potential benefits you gain from putting them in your loadout. Last but not least, most of these DLC weapons have comparable alternatives that aren't DLC. Similarly for the DLC perks, they do offer some advantages, but they mostly aren't as good as one would think just reading the descriptions and come at the cost of high loadout points, so it's not exactly game breaking.

Once again, i don't care for the practice as a whole and think that ND should give away game affecting DLC (maps, modes, perks and weapons) for free to nurture their player base and avoid splitting the pool, while charging for cosmetical stuff, but a lot of the outrage in this thread is based on lack of information.

Fuck off OP. How dare you say that against the Naughty Gods. Of course you dont need any of these weapons, do you?

Pay to win? Hell no.

Its fucking ND, GOAT developer.

Its fucking TLOU, GOAT game.

Fuck you OP.

Damn.....

So when people criticise another company for doing this sort of thing, they'll put out all the people that defended when ND did it.

When I see a multiplayer game with DLC lists like this, then I automatically assume it's going to be a not-very-good competitive multiplayer game in the long term. I haven't been wrong yet.

This isn't some fake outrage that some people are trying to make it out to be. For example, if Nintendo announced paid Kart DLC in MK8 that wasn't required, game breaking or overpowered compared to the unlockable kart parts, I would still be against it because it's shitty. I should be able to customize my kart with all the possible combinations like everyone else who is playing the game. Moreover, I'm pretty sure that the outrage would be much bigger.

How childish. Is that really the way you're going to describe the debate going on in this thread? Because frankly, the people 'defending' Naughty Dog are primarily posting the facts to fight the rabid assumptions from the 'disgusted' camp.

1) The DLC gives you extra customisation choices, not a straight up boost. You do not get any of these things for free, you always have to forgo something of similar value from the free perks or weapons.

2) This has been the case for a long time in the PS3 version of the game.

3) You can use almost all the purchasable content in the preset classes.

4) You can do more than fine without any of the purchasable content.

5) This is absolutely no different from the DLC in games like Battlefield 4, which grants you more weapons and equipment.

This thread has nothing to do with people defending ND because they're ND. People are explaining the facts to combat the hyperbole coming from those with little to no experience of the multiplayer. We could have a discussion about whether this is a good practice. Instead, we're having a pointless argument of facts vs assumptions. Better still, posts like yours are basically accusing everyone fighting the fire as being so biased towards ND that we can't see the wood for the trees.

Do I like this practice? No. I don't. I'd prefer the content to not exist, or to be free. At the same time, as a long time player of the game, I have the context to say that it's not that significant an issue. There are so many precise analogues that no-one seems to really care about.

Guys, usually developers are not responsible for the business side of things, it's probably Sony the one to blame, it's not that all that money goes to ND.

I remember stuff similar to this in U3. Donut Drake could be unlocked in co-op but it was impossible to do so, but they let you buy it instead :/

If u didnt get a season pass u have to pay for the dlc... simple. They said left behind and the map packs was on the disc... period. Got mine for free cause I had the pass on the ps3.

I have to disagree, in BF4, the default selection shows enough variety of guns to counter any DLC gun. Also, there are no DLC perks to make you impossible to hear / run faster.

....

Thanks for the info!

It is surprising. I thought every DLC would be included in the Remastered. I really wanted an Enforcer handgun.

I just hope the DLC guns aren't OP'd.. which I have heard that they are.

I guess everyone who played the TLoU mp on Ps3 knew about it.
I wasn't thrilled but I never noticed any disadvantages so I didn't care much.

It seems like people cannot be pleased. People demanded the game be ported. They do that. Everyone says 60 bucks is too much. The lower it to 50 and let ya trade in the last of us ps3 at gamestop for half the price. Now they don't add a few weapons/perks and everybody is freaking out. First of all you don't need to guns or perks to win. L2P! Second of all it seems like a good amount of people have zero clue the amount of work software development takes. Let them make a few bucks of people who are not good at mp. You don't need the extra stuff at all.

What? I got Season Pass. I don't see it for free. Let me check again...

EDIT: I see them for free on PS3 but not on PS4. Do I have to purchase them for PS3 to get them for PS4?

I can say the precise same thing about The Last of Us' DLC weapons, something which has been echoed by many others in this thread.

Also, there are no DLC perks to make you impossible to hear / run faster.

There aren't DLC perks in Battlefield 4 (because perks aren't really a part of the game). There are DLC pieces of equipment though. The UCAV, SUAV, AA Mine and 3GL. They all give players powerful extra options. I don't think any of them are gamebreaking for precisely the same reason I don't think any of the DLC perks in The Last of Us are gamebreaking. All of The Last of Us perks are hugely powerful and make major differences to how you can play. The DLC adds some more options, it doesn't, as far as I'm concerned, add any options that cannot be countered.

Yes. Some of them were not showing up for free for me as well, but when I manually bought them on the ps3 store everything was free on the ps4 (I never "bought" them on the ps3, since the ps3 version just seemed to check for the season pass and unlocked everything accordingly). Only the killer dlc bundle is not part of the season pass.

Nice! Going to start queuing them up.

Had they released this as an all-inclusive GOTY edition, people like OP would still be bitching about the "disgusting" practice of making more DLC for MP and it therefore not really being a GOTY edition.

From pre-1.05 Uncharted 2 multiplayer to this shit. Naughty Dog have dropped off a cliff so fast when it comes to multiplayer it's like they're doing it on purpose.

i think it's good, it provides a premium experience for those who have a little bit more to spare. Naughty Dog are a world class developer, they know what they are doing and know their true fans can afford extra content easily, so this is great. i honestly find it very tacky to whine about having to pay a little more for a better experience... a sad case of affairs this whole thread. money makes the world go around, deal with it :) jk lol im probably not buying the game because of this.
