Glorious thread. If your viewing experience is ruined because the highlight of the film was revealed, which is that some guy is in it, you should probably reevaluate the quality of art you choose to engage with, and also your life.

Then take it up with the mods and admins who have changed the title multiple times, not us. I have no sympathy for anyone here.

Again, this isnt my problem, it doesnt affect me. The way we interact with each other on here does affect me though and I cant understand why people aren't willing to make a harmless concession

I don't care about this spoiler personally. But why does comics lore make this not a spoiler but info from game of thrones books or interviews during show production is protected, even info from sneak peeks of the next episode.

Because the people requesting it are going about it in the biggest asshole way possible, and don't really have any leg to stand on in regards to having an actual spoiler-related complaint

People can't post Game of Thrones casting news? Really?

Some people are arguing if it's public knowledge, it's fair game and not a spoiler. And yes, there are characters in GOT who's casting or reveal would be a spoiler.

I'm not even mad at OP, I just think this thread wasn't needed and the picture could have went in the spoiler thread. That's all.

That is kind of a bloated sense of looking at pop culture.

Again, that's fine that Thanos is in the film. He never was really relevant in the books I've read, I was just more concerned about the posting etiquette that is expected on the forum and being more liberal with thread titles moving forward.

I learned that Thanos is involved in the film's plot, which previously I was unaware of.

Yet that doesn't at all compare to the extreme examples you used. "Jack Bauer dies" is a plot spoiler. Saying Thanos is in the movie tells people nothing what to expect aside from the common knowledge that he's a bad guy. Your comparing Thanos to extreme theoretical plot spoilers and completely ignoring the context of this situation.

No shit there's characters that could be spoiler related, but the reality of it is that short of putting him in a fucking trailer, they are making it very clear Thanos is in the goddamn movie.

OP has also not seen the fucking movie so he would not go in the spoiler thread. It was supposed to be a thread to discuss the look of Thanos, but that got shot straight to hell by assholes.

I honestly cannot stress how much of a non-spoiler this news is.

It's not a harmless concession because as I've said there is no other way to do this thread title without scaring off people who knew he was actually in the movie. If your harmless concession means hampering discussion that way it is not harmless at all. Maybe they can make a non information at all section of the internet then.

But why does comics lore make this not a spoiler

It doesn't and anyone who uses that excuse is wrong. If Marvel has not revealed this themselves than it would be a spoiler.

Ultimately it's much of a non issue, but I've seen people banned for spoilers in the past.

Just to be crystal clear, you can make a thread title about anything regardless of spoilers? For instance "First look at Jack Bauer's Death in 24" or "First look at Unrivaled Character X in Game of Thrones", that would be acceptable?
No, you cannot spoil actual events like a death (or surprising resurrection) of a character in thread titles, unless 24's last season has been widely advertised as "see the last moments of Jack Bauer" or some other tag-line that reveals that this season will be the one where Bauer dies.

"First look at Game of Thrones character X" would be okay (since show-only watchers will not know new character in question), unless it was something that reveals a thought-to-be-dead character or something like that (i.e. something like "First look at Ned Stark's third (secret) daugter who's out for blood!!!!1!!!")

I didn't know that he was in the film until I clicked my bookmark a few moments ago.

Thanos' place in the movie has been public knowledge for a year. That you didn't know it is no one's concern but yours. The rest of us do not exist to shelter you from information that you don't want.

Because the people requesting it are going about it in the biggest asshole way possible, and don't really have any leg to stand on in regards to having an actual spoiler-related complaint

There are a lot of people in here that expressed their disappointment reasonably, why are you focusing on the guys that went 'fuck you op'.I mean just let them have this, it's a tiny concession and everyone wins

That'd be a brave man to start a thread like that.

If Jack Bauer were to die, it likely would be referred to in popular media prior to the event. It would be like discussing "The Death of Superman", which sounds fair game according to the feedback.

Really? Where are they?

Sounds like you want to fight me? Kind of an odd response.

We're now in the 11th page of a thread that has almost entirely been made up of arguing about what constitutes a damn spoiler. It's just going through the motions now.

First you want the thread titles more obscure, then you want all movie discussion black-barred and gifs banned. Meanwhile its frontpage yahoo news, because in the real world its actually news and no-one gives a fuck.

Its not a secret, and its not a spoiler.

Oh my god the nerve of the internet. Let's ban the internet. Honestly it pains me to have to be in the anti spoiler-free crowd since I've had major things like deaths in Game of Thrones revealed to me, but at some point you guys just take it too far.

So anything hbo reveals is fair game with regards to upcoming episodes or seasons of game of thrones?

When we all saw how people reacted, we could have altered course. This is a really dumb thing to be steadfast about, it doesnt hurt us at all.

Not knowing something about a movie is not equal to a spoiler. The former is dictated by the information available to a viewer, something that we aren't responsible for. The latter is a critical piece of entertainment left deliberately secret by the filmmakers. We shouldn't have to change the title, thus warding off those that don't want spoilers but do want to talk about Thanos, just because of the lack of public information that some have.

Okay, fair enough. I just hadn't been following the film and last I heard it was only a possibility that Thanos would show up, guess I can't really blame OP since Marvel already mentioned it apparently, just sucks I had to find out the day before the film releases.

Sounds like you want to fight me? Kind of an odd response.

Yes, that was exactly the point I was making. That I want to fight you. I'm glad that didn't go over your head. I'm glad you caught that. I want to literally fight you. Yes.

Maybe they can make a non information at all section of the internet then.
Why would I continue this conversation with you? You didnt need to add this snide stuff at the end, I'm trying to discuss something sensibly because I feel empathy toward some of the people who actually were bothered by this and you're being snide. I'm not trying to bust your balls but this post exemplifies exactly what is happening in here (We're mocking people for having a preference to know little about a film, plus we're flat out unnecessarily dismissing their complaints while just refusing to budge)

In the case of this specific thread, the thread title contains a character who's already been introduced to the MCU and is set up as a big bad for the next 6 movies being in one of those six movies.

Again, it would be as if someone was complaining about Cersei being in a thread title. Thanos' appearance in GOTG has been well known for months and kinda known for a year and his inclusion in the overall MCU has been known since the end of The Avengers.

This isn't some rumored casting or set photo of a character nobody knew about.

Where on the internet do you want to do this? I know Skype is popular, but I would need to sign up for an account.

What's people's obsession with being surprised by EVERY GODDAMNED FUCKING THING? I swear, there could be a new Batman reboot, and people will be all outraged that someone "spoiled" that the Joker would be in it, an iconic character in the franchise. Knowing what character is in a film isn't a spoiler in and of itself, it's not a plot element.

Man. I can't fight you too. Who do you think I am, Thanos!?

*raises hand*

I am Spoilercus!

I wasn't being snide. I was being honest. Short of making a section of the internet where any small thing at all cannot be spoken about no matter how it's been revealed, there is no fixing the complaints made.

Not knowing something about a movie is not equal to a spoiler.
Who cares? When people reacted negatively why did we instantly dig our heals in as a fuck you instead of just leaving it? Is this the reaction you would want next time you have an issue with something frivolous on here? I'm just saying we could have reacted better. This is a community after all and we're all going to post in the same threads after this. why not just give each other a little bit of respect?

Same as above, it's not about the spoiler for me. The OP acted properly imo, I just think we could have avoided a lot of bitterness by at least trying to make a concession when people started flailing about spoilars

You seem to just be intentionally trolling now.

Out of all the trolling going on in this thread, I would say I'm still in my first gear. The mods are even in on it!

I was primarily curious on the shift in acceptable practices on the forum. They seem to sway every so often in different directions. Feels like it's better to stay moving towards the right direction, no?

Problem, bro?

The problem is the original title. Your title change is merely adding extra shit inside a shit sandwich. Can it really make the taste worse?

This is not a rhetorical question, I genuinely don't know the answer as I have never eaten a literal shit sandwich.

The problem with the original title was there was no problem.
