Extrapolating plot details from a preview video is a very different thing to making threads about news that HBO has explicitly stated in a press release.

Imagine someone posting a thread with a link to the preview to the next episode with a thread title "First look at X charcter vs. Y character"

Thread would be deleted and poster banned before more than two people were able to post their outrage.

Who cares? When people reacted negatively why did we instantly dig our heals in as a fuck you instead of just leaving it? Is this the reaction you would want next time you have an issue with something frivolous on here? I'm just saying we could have reacted better. This is a community after all and we're all going to post in the same threads after this. why not just give each other a little bit of respect?

What your saying is that we should just buckle down and allow spoiler culture to run rampant in this community, which is something that a lot of us here are getting sick of. Fine, we change the title of this thread. What happens next time though? We get 50 "fuck you OPs!" and then change the thread title again, and all this does is completely kill discussion on this forum. We are not your bodyguards to information you don't want to hear, and to enforce this is an absolutely insane proposition.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY SPOILERS

I actually didn't know Thanos would be in the movie so I was pleasantly surprised at his first mention and then actually showing his face. That being said, he had no impact on the plot.

Josh Brolin was actually uncredited.

Yeah childish tantrums are not something that should be rewarded.

You do understand that X character fighting Y character is more of a spoiler to the story than first look of dude sitting in a chair?

I think that in order to avoid spoiling things for people, Marvel shouldn't even announce who or what their movies are about anymore. Just release films titled like "Marvel Move #33" with no promotional material. People could be going in thinking it's a Captain America movie, and it'll be Thor. I mean, how can people enjoy a Thor movie when it's already spoiled to them that it's going to be about Thor?

Well I wanted to see how Thanos looked in the movie but I didn't want to visit the spoiler thread, so I guess this thread is for people like me.

I thought there were two GOTG threads; one SPOILER OT one and the original one. I would have expected this to be in the original thread where the casting and trailers were being discussed.

@garooth

I'm not familiar with spoiler culture (assuming this means the want to spoiler tag everything) and if there is a group of people sick of it I can understand the harshness. (I however dont agree the solution is to be an asshole back) I dont post in spoiler threads (I'd be surprised if I have even 3 posts in spoiler threads) but this stuff generally rarely is an issue in TV threads I post in, so this reaction is all very new and jarring to me.

You certainly enjoy thumping your chest and talking to yourself. Gotta give you that!

Cosmic villain teased in Avengers is in Marvel's cosmic film centered around characters that are directly tied to said villian

FUCK OFF SPOILERS

This isn't something recent. It started around the same time as the GoT double thread and now it's reached a tipping point.

"Spoilers!" shitposting is everywhere, in every media thread, for the most minor of offenses, and a lot of us are justifiably tired of it.

So we didn't "instantly dig our heels in". We waited years, and it didn't get better, and now enough is enough.

If HBO had put out a press release saying X FIGHTS Y IN THE NEXT SEASON OF GAME OF THRONES, then they definitely wouldn't.

SPOILERS NO

Actually this was incredibly obvious to anyone who watched the end of avengers 1 and saw that avengers 2 is called age of ultron.

I would actually totally fucking dig this.

Film like, 20 movies at once. Send those 20 out to all the theaters and just promote it as 'Marvel Movie!' and then you go in and get 1 of 20 experiences.

Some people will be like 'OMG Guardians of the Galaxy was amazing!' while others would be like 'Oh... Namor huh? Well fuck me then.'

It'll be like the Kinder Eggs of movies.

In the TV threads Cornballer frequents, officially released previews and casting info must be spoilered.

I really don't think it's too much to ask for a little consistency but we've got a 10 page thread with a significantly large number of upset posters yet not only do the mods not give a fuck, but they're actively taunting those posters.

Weird.

Because the upset posters are throwing a shitfit about nothing.

So anything hbo reveals is fair game with regards to upcoming episodes or seasons of game of thrones?
Events/hints at plot-twists from previews have to be spoiler-tagged, so no. Using common sense is really the best way with these things. Something like "First look at Smaug from The Hobbit" is A-OK, just like Thanos is ok because he has been confirmed to be the big bad looming in the background until Phase 3 and even publicly confirmed to be a part of GOTG.

Something like "First look at Bob Baratheon from GoT" is not, as that would reveal there is some Baratheon in GoT who we haven't seen yet.

I've never had a single problem with a cornballer thread (I post in a lot of them) except for that stupid love hate royspin.gif I love it but oh I hate it so :lol

I specifically remember the title of Episode 9 of Season 4 being a MASSIVE FUCKING SPOILER... if you knew the story going in.

I meant being banned. I'm sure there is plenty of HBO material which are spoilers. In various threads throughout GAF's past, there have been a variety of moderation in spoiling culture.

We need five defcon varying levels of spoilers. Each colour coded, and the spoiler bars colour coded as well.

  • Green/Low: Low risk of spoilers (clothe descriptions, shooting locations, film length etc)
  • Blue/Guarded: General spoilers (characters in the movie, actors playing them etc)
  • Yellow/ Elevated: Significant risk of spoilers (scene descriptions, love interests, dialogue etc)
  • Orange/High: High risk of spoilers (Death scenes, ending descriptions)
  • Red/SEVERE: Severe risk of spoilers (Luke i am your father, Bruce Willis is Dumbledore, M Night Shyamalan)

Cornballer just shakes his fists in disapproval when you bring up outside series in a thread. It's like messing up his freshly folded clothes.

I agree. A bit odd.

Thanos is obviously not a massive shit the bed spoiler, but courtesy for people who are browsing the forums who don't want to know that kind of stuff before hand should be encouraged, not mocked. People who don't care will be reading the spoiler threads anyway.

If it was a couple of outliers going off I'd agree with you but it seems like this has impacted the experience of a number of people.

Nobody is going to die in a ditch here and I think that the whole spoiler thing can get out if control but thread titles that people don't have a choice not to see should probably err on the side of caution.

I honestly do not at all understand the upset about studio-released knowledge that has been repeated for weeks from official sources. But it would help to have a forum-wide standard for dealing with spoilers if for no other reason than to prevent more threads from devolving into this sort of rampant accusatory shit-flinging.

If what we have now is what's going to stay, then guys, seriously, just get over it.

You regularly sit in an empty theatre watching text roll up a huge screen?

Why?

It hasn't impacted anybody's experience. They haven't had the experience yet. It's a bunch of whining over nothing, I promise you. It's not supposed to be some grand surprise. It's year-old information.

Do you actually go see superhero movies nowadays without most of the crowd staying? The fun part is the people who stay who have no idea what is going on like half the theatre at the end of Days of Future Past.

Well, the only problem then would be, is how do you avoid seeing the same movie more than once? If you want to see all 20 movies?

Why would I continue this conversation with you? You didnt need to add this snide stuff at the end, I'm trying to discuss something sensibly because I feel empathy toward some of the people who actually were bothered by this and you're being snide. I'm not trying to bust your balls but this post exemplifies exactly what is happening in here (We're mocking people for having a preference to know little about a film, plus we're flat out unnecessarily dismissing their complaints while just refusing to budge)

The problem with your argument is that this is a public forum and were the modifications made people would think it was actual spoiler and thus decide against coming in the thread meaning they would miss the chance to discuss this so making the modification isn't harmless at all.

The main problem is putting the content in the title in this thread. If someone is on blackout for whatever reason, they are not spoiled [from their perspective]. They wouldn't go in the regular or spoiler GOTG threads. It wouldn't be a huge effort to either put this info in the normal GOTG thread, or if it must have a new thread, then title it accordingly (as people have given examples here).

The problem is this isn't a spoiler unless you've been hiding under a rock for weeks but people here are acting like this is equal to revealing bruce willis was dead in 6th sense when it was released.

I mean every trailer has revealed one of the main characters is Thanos' daughter, and the last avenger movie teased him in the final scene. If you couldn't puzzle together he'd show up that's on you.
