Thanos is a simp.

So yeah, just like Vader.

I posted this in this thread already, but just a question. Is Thanos the Darth Vader from the Marvel universe. Is he really the biggest bad guy out there, he doesn't sound that evil like a psychotic villain would be.

He's actually a really fun, nuanced character... which I guess you could describe Vader as. Generally he's a very powerful guy who works for his own interest in everything. Sometimes that interest is in the name of not destroying the universe, most of the time it's not.

This isn't about any single instance of thread title spoilers, but the fact that there is a growing contingent of users on GAF who will view just about anything as a spoiler. It takes no effort to change the thread title for a single thread, sure, but it becomes ludicrous when you're expected to tiptoe everywhere, forever, in the constant fear that you might be spoiling someone on something, however inane it might be.

A public forum is not a place where you should be afraid to talk about things openly.

Look at this fucking shit.

At the risk of backseat territory, I hope to god the mods crack down on this shit. I remember another recent thread about Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - the better part of a year after the game was released - where multiple people got upset at a poster for saying, sans spoiler text, that
someone dies
in the game. (I'm putting that in spoiler tags here because it's not a thread about the game).

My rule for spoilers is pretty much "don't be a dick". I mean, I wouldn't ruin a big plot twist for a recent work in a thread title (or post that unspoilered in a more general thread, unless it were a spoiler thread). But this is a message board, not a fucking cocoon in which you can hide away from the outside world and avoid anything you might not want to see. Castigating other people for not adhering to your arbitrary ideal restrictions is a waste of time, and shits on discussion.

Hey, this makes me wonder... could Marvel decide to make original Human Torch a huge character just to stick it to Fox? CAN they use him?
Probably, though my guess is that Fox has the rights to the "Human Torch" name itself.

I don't understand, what was the original thread title for this thread. Cause if it was "Would you have killed him" then that's a pretty terrible thread title.

I have no idea, it was changed a bunch of times or something.

The point is, the thread completely went off the rails because people started complaining about "SPOILERS" for a 20 year old movie. And then there was that other thread where some posters claimed that there should be no "statute of limitations" on spoilers and that everyone should spoil everything forever.

No.

The only spoiling going on here is the people who feel entitled to both the pure media experience and the public forum experience, and demand the rest of the world conform to their idealized, unrealistic expectations.

Didn't know he was in the movie, wasn't keeping tabs on the movie, so i guess not a spoiler
But i think even if a movie gets spoiled , if it's a very good movie anyway i will still enjoy it

That thread almost had me spontaneously combust from all the nonsense

While I can see why people can be annoyed, I think it's fair game to put anything that has been revealed by official sources into thread titles. What's the limit or what should and should not go into thread titles otherwise? What if someone were to want to keep to complete media blackout and doesn't even want to know which of the Guardians of the Galaxy are in the film? Should we care about those people too? Why is Thanos a spoiler and not Groot or Star lord? Anything that has been announced shouldn't be considered a spoiler.

Watched this a few hours ago and thought that Thanos looked good and sounded good:)

Easter egg in Thor 2. ;)
Holy shit... I am so behind I still haven't watched Thor 2. Fixing that today.

Yeah I just read those scenes again since I recalled that coming up.

Warlock went IN. Gaddamn.
Fuck yeah he did.

I wonder if Marvel has the guts to end the conflict on screen with an existential discussion like that.

Probably not. It'll just be more falling aircraft and punching.

They'll have the discussion while punching each other in an exploding Kyln sphere.

Arbitrary time limits are silly in a world where we have old works constantly being re-released and/or translated for the first time. You're asking for the same conformity that you don't want to deal with from others. Regardless its rare for me to run into these issues since I can generally avoid what I don't want to know, but surely you can't defend that Seven thread title as being acceptable, when it offers no information on what thread is even about. That's worthless for discussion.

Thanos is a lot of things. You how there's that type of Marvel character who is the "brain" and has this badass laboratory, ie Tony Stark, Reed Richards, Hank Pym? Thanos is like them, he has his too, and he's just as smart as them.

But, then you have the "bruisers" like Hulk, Thor, etc. Well...

...Yeah, when he's NOT powered up with the Infinity Gauntlet or whatever else he comes up with, baseline, everyday Thanos can totally go toe to toe, punch for punch with the Hulk. When Thanos IS using his technology too, well...

(that's Galactus, devourer of worlds, who Jack Kirby designed with a big G on his belt which I'm pretty sure he meant to stand for "God". Stan called him "Galactus" instead. I'm also pretty sure they were all on acid.)

And then you have the "planner/strategist" type character. Like when people say Batman can beat anyone with adequate prep time? Thanos is ALSO one of THOSE. He'd beat Loki at chess, easily. He's a master of the long game AND the short game.

He's kind of SO much smarter and more powerful than everyone else, that he has nothing to do. During Annihilation (the big Marvel space war from the late 2000's that sort of reset and defined Cosmic Marvel), he sided with the invading force from the Negative Zone basically just for the hell of it, because Lord Annihalus had some cool toys Thanos felt like playing with. He didn't really probably care who actually won.

Every now and then he gets a hair up his ass to go conquer all of existence to impress the grim reaper or whatever, and then everyone is fucked. The rest of the time, he's just the scariest, most powerful, competent person in the Marvel universe, and if you're a normal Marvel denizen, crossing paths with him is like having a deadly wasp land right on your face and then gently fly away.

When he REALLY gets fired up and decides to go balls out super-villain mode he essentially has no weaknesses, except that he is a bit of a simp (for the aforementioned "grim reaper", who usually personifies herself as a woman), and the "subconscious self defeat" thing that Adam Warlock (one of the few people Thanos listens to at all) describes a few posts back.

I made a thread a couple years back about the scene in pulp fiction where Travolta shoots Marvin in the face and had people bitching at me about spoilers. Not only was that a 20 year old movie but that isn't even some integral plot point. It's just something that happens in the movie.

Where's the outrage for all the open Thanos discussion in here? Anything from the comics being posted could constitute a potential spoiler, people were discussing Thanos' character and motivations openly in the previous page. These are far more important than whether or not Thanos is in GotG, because they represent potentialities for all future Marvel films featuring Thanos.

Nowhere, because it doesn't fucking matter. There is no real, rational argument to be had here, just people whining over nothing of consequence and making threads all the worse for it.

Well to be fair everything that happens in that movie is just something that happens in the movie.

True lol. But what I mean is that it's not some big reveal. It's just a funny scene that leads to more funny scenes. If I make a thread titled "That scene in Ace Ventura where he crawls out of an animatronic rhino's ass is hilarious!" Is that a spoiler too?

Hey guys, ULTRON is in Avengers, hope I didn't spoil anything!!!!!!!!!

So much overreaction to known news. I could understand people being mad if the OP described his scenes or something, but a picture is no different than shots from the movie. Jeez people like to get mad just to be mad.

It wasn't even a secret he was in this movie and he was in the end credits of Avengers.

I hope he looks more polished in the actual film compared to the bootleg pic. His voice is going to be insane I bet haha.

Every time you post Zeliard, someone gets spoiled on Kingdom of Heaven.

Please change your avatar.

You're really comparing this to the character name being part of the subtitle for the next Avengers?

Intentional choice to just hyperbolize the overreaction from many in this thread. I understand going in with no info, but this isn't new news. It doesn't even spoil the movie in any way.

isn't thanos just a simp for death, who is an actual sentient entity in the marvel universe? I tried reading the infinity wars a few years back and quickly realized that that shit was so dumb.

For about 6 comics he grew a set of balls and decided to stop being such a waste but then Death came and held his hand and he get all sappy again.

Like, seriously, an abusive relationship.
