Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

I hope that we get a newcomer video in the Hyrule Warriors direct for Shulk, and right when they're about to cut to the gameplay, it cuts to Sakurai who says "It's close enough to launch date, I don't have to describe his moveset to you, right? His moves are based off of Xenoblade Chronicles."

Hyrule Warriors Direct won't have anything other than Hyrule Warriors news, just like the Mario Kart and Smash Directs before it.

The brawl delays were the worst, especially for us Europeans.

And then when the day finally came I had to travel like 8 miles to get to the shop I preordered from, but my uncles car broke down about ten minutes after we set off, so I had to leave him behind and try and catch a bus, but that bus line for the long ass road I was on wasn't in service that day so I had to walk a mile to get to the next proper bus stop.

I got there 10 minutes before the store closed and picked up my two copies, I was so happy that I'd actually managed to make it in time, spent all 40 minutes on the bus ride back reading the manual and had some friends round at my house waiting for me to get back so we could play it.

And then we played it for a couple of weeks and got bored.
My friends and I bought a copy of the Japanese version of Brawl. We were aware of some mod chips we could use to play it, but didn't actually manage to get any. (I don't think the Wii could be softmodded at the time, but if so none of us knew). So at that point we had the game right there in front of us, with no way to play. We were all excited at first looking at the box, manual, disc. That got old really quick.

And then when it came out in North America, we played it for a couple of weeks and got bored.

We can always hope *sniff*
I'm hoping for another Smash Direct then. April iirc didn't have a general ND like the ones that happen every two months. Instead, it had Mario Kart, Smash, and Tomodachi Life Directs. I took it as them not wanting to show off much breadth right then, but instead wanting to show off the depth of several titles. Maybe we'll get that again in August.

I don't think I've ever been as excited for something in my life as I was with Brawl.

I missed the bus to school on some days because the Dojo update came at the same time as the bus did.

It taught me to never get too excited about videogames again.

I had a friend who had a modded wii and downloaded layer 1 of the game and burnt it on to a DVD. The game would run but any attempt to load SSE or any SSE cutscenes would cause the game to crash. Basically layer 2 was all SSE content, but layer 1 let us play 'brawl' and unlock all the characters. So we played almost daily until the game came out in the US. After playing the american version (and lamenting pit's voice change!), we started SSE, beat it, and never came back. About a month or 2 later, it kinda tapered off but we still played from time to time. I loved toon link so much, though, that going back to melee was not the same for me, so I never really did and I still never really have.

Were you the kid who screamed and kissed his copy of the game at the midnight release?

no i'm joking pls show mercy sakuai
Sakurai has had it up to here with the cries for mercy.

Tonight we'll get this pic again and we'll like it:

Nah, there was no midnight release where I live. But, I'm not a person who runs normally, but I ran when my uncles van broke down and I needed to get a bus, I ran like a motherfucker (probably looked like a twat, too, but I didn't care at that point).

Whoa wondered what they did

Wish there were a way to click on a banned user and see some sort of 'reason why' tag left by a mod. They can either link to the post or leave some comment.

It'd be a good way for other users to learn what *NOT* to do or say to prevent being banned in the future.

In an old forum I used to go on, there was a locked thread that only mods could post in and whenever they banned someone they made a new post in the thread saying why they did it and linked to the offending post. Was a really good system.

I remember there was a site somewhere that cataloged all the banned users, how they got banned and how many times they've been banned, but I can't find it.

I was going to say the same thing.

I guess it would be extra work for moderators though, and could derail more discussions into gravedancing. *shrug* Would still be cool.

Haha I probably would have done the same. I just remember some kid acting like getting Brawl was the single greatest thing to ever to happen to him at mine.

Yeah, that's be a good idea. If you look at KHlover's posts, you can probably guess which post did him in. Maybe l4c had some stuff going on with pms?

haha, speaking of their moves, have you or anyone else here (who played the demo) also felt the down special is really useless? my tree would dissappear really quick...

I haven't played the demo but from looking at the gameplay footage, it looks insanely impractical just because of all the stuff you have to do to chop down the tree, I don't understand why it goes away so quickly. Doesn't his down smash ground opponents though? Maybe there'll be some strategies and setups developed revolving around that. I guess when the tree is fully grown though, people are going to stay away from it for the time being so you have some sort of space control.

There was an OT thread a while ago where users were saying things they'd like to see, that was one of the most requested ones. I personally would love an option like that, see what somebody got banned for, how long and whether or not it's permanent.

They could have requested bans from mods to take a break from gaf.

I think KH got banned from that child molestation/Eternal Darkness thread

Very valuable information for someone like myself who is relatively new to GAF and don't really post on many threads that are full of banhammers. Some people in some of those threads get banned for making a joke or for using a 1 word reply. I feel like a lot of things that get people banned in those threads wouldn't get people banned here, so it's like i'm in some sort of bubble.

If the words "microsoft" "sony" or "nintendo" are in the title, I feel like people are treading on thin ice when posting there.

That's how they keep you on your toes. You behave because you know they are always out there.

Watching.

Waiting.

Banning.

Don't forget "feminism" and "anita", last time I looked in one of those was ages ago but there were lots of grey names.

Also anything even remotely related to 4chan for me, because I just know I'm going to insult someone who acts as if 4chan is terrible and NeoGAF is some bastion of forward thinking on the internet.

Hey did AnthOny make his write up?

I would have done one myself since I did play hours and hours of both versions but he can probably voice things like mechanics and stuff way better than I can.

Nope, the game's probably going to be released by the time he posts it haha

People need to stop asking for Anthony! he's holding his impression back and enjoying people's begs for informations. He feasted on y'all thirsts! He's SmashVampire!

Hey, I'd take the latter over GameFAQS anyday.

So glad I stopped going there. The shit I've seen...

For the first time in ages I had a Smash related dream. Ness had been confirmed, and also Lucas....within the same slot! You could switch from one another by means of Down Taunt. Sakurai was all "I knew what I said in the Direct, but Ness and Lucas alone are special..."

yeah, my brother said there's probably potential for that move for villager players. something we've yet to discover yet.
