Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XI: Where 90% correct equals 100% wrong

KO punch is easy to come up with alternates for anyway:

KO Punch - Moves horizontally, high knockback, super armour, meter resets upon death and if you store it too long
KO Uppercut - Moves vertically, everything else is the same
Storage Punch - Moves horizontally, half knockback, no super armour, meter charges quicker and never resets - even if you die.

Easy, the last one is a bit shit, but it's a way of changing the move up a bit more.

What, you mean you DON'T want this?

This is ridiculous. "best game in the series" my ass.

Little Mac could get what are basically pokemon elemental punch variations.

DK's Side smash special is just slower w/ super armor, right? Little mac's moves could get similar changes.

Changes can be as simple as tweaking the speed/damage ratio. They can also add elemental properties, like Ice or Fire. It can be whatever.

Seeing as how the KO meter is from Super Punch Out, I want that game's other special, the rapid-punch, as a custom option for the KO punch.

Working in stars somehow (like by landing his counter move, maybe) as another option would be nice too, but I guess that's probably too significant of a change.

Brawl Snake wants a word with you. :P

Do they seriously not test hitboxes, I mean, come the fuck on, Snake was embarrasing.

I swear they must have tried to make snakes up tilt as long as possible but just short enough to feel like it's kinda attached to his feet

I'm sure sakurai thought his hitboxes were 'fun' :p

That and some of them probably slipped by due to last minute dev crunches. Snake's hitboxes are a perfect example of something needing patching after launch, I think.

Well I mean, they kinda were fun. Ridiculous doesn't necessarily equate to bad, in my opinion.

I wanna just mention that Brawl Marth's up smash can stage spike someone when they're on the ledge. Think about that for a sec...

Yeah this, them looking weird doesn't necessarily equate to it being a bad idea, I mean, it certainly is in snakes case but some of the weirder hitboxes are probably just part of the balance to make the move a bit better.

It's just that until now there was no real visualisation of the hitboxes like the slash effects we have now so it looks weird.

That doesn't really explain his up tilt though, as there is no forward movement at all in the move. Snake just sticks his leg straight up.

Maybe it didn't when they may the hitbox? Maybe it made an arcing motion and then they forgot to fix the hitbox? Kinda like how captain falcon kicks lucina's sword out of the way.

Anyway, I'm really glad Sakurai's decided to ramp up stage reveals, makes up for those months of stage droughts. Feeling a lot better about stage amounts in both versions now than I did a few weeks ago. Still wish he spread out the franchise reveals more though. The 3DS version has four Mario stages, two Zelda stages, and two Pokemon stages revealed, but no new Kirby, Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Yoshi, etc. yet.

Can I just mention how much I fucking love the new warpstar sound effect? Easily my favorite sound in Smash 4. It just sounds so...right.

I'm honestly surprised it's gone as long as it has with Sakurai at the helm. Seems like something he'd have personal feelings about.

On the subject of items, I'm thinking about the only item that I actually hate when playing with items on: the Dragoon. I don't remember seeing it at all during the 3DS tournament.

Did anyone see it? If it comes out MUCH less frequently than it did in Brawl, I'd be okay with that.

I don't think it was enabled on either of the E3 builds, but I agree. As long as it doesn't show up multiple times every single match and it doesn't interfere with Smash Ball spawning, it's probably fine.

I kinda like that there was an item that *IF* it exists, smash ball can NOT. It reduces the frequency of smash balls, which was good if you wanted them on but didn't want them dominating the fight. I'd love if there were other items with smash ball-disabling properties.

I assume that since smash balls are 'hype' that E3 had no such items on, so we can assume that all items in the E3 build have no such property.

We need individual variables for the rarity of each item

Then we will have the frequence options for how fast it is between item spawnings, and rarity to define which item is spawned

Yeah, i'd love a 'my music' style toggle for items, and preferably pokeballs and assist trophies too!

I really hope they get rid of continuous sliders though - one of my pet peeves is not being able to set an exact amount for a variable. I'd prefer it just have ten or twenty notches you can snap to, meaning 5%, 10%, et.c

The only thing I would consider useful when playing as villager is to use the tree move to gain access to the axe which does considerable damage.

You will take Lucina and you will like it.

Thats another thing. I'm worried about how Lucina will play after trying out Marth.

He plays considerably different compared to previous titles. I felt more inclined to play defensive rather than offensive during FFA matches. I'm afraid that Lucina being weaker would make it harder for players to gain KOs in matches since she's supposed to be a weaker but faster Marth.

you and me, separated at birth

That seriously bugged the heck out of me in Brawl because I had no idea what the actual chance of some songs were, I just had to trust that the sliders were "right."

I see it the opposite way. If it has exact values, I'll be a little annoyed if they aren't snapped to acceptable numbers. If it's continuous, I don't have to care.

I don't like Smashball and Dragoon Parts. Usually if I'm playing with items on, it's at my family's house with my brother and mom, and my mom's not good enough to get them quickly, so it really makes it unfun for her.
kinda odd that things intended to make things more fun for casuals actually make it less fun lol.

Oh man, I didn't even think of having items work like My Music! That'd be great; I know there'd be a lot of people who'd just max out OP ones like Golden Hammer, but that could be brilliant for self-imposed group challenges! Plus, people can make their own Events were only assist characters that perform a specific task or are from a specific series showed up, like that one Event from Melee where every item that wasn't explosive was a Pokeball, but it only ever summoned Electrode.
Maybe we can have characters we missed out on like Goroh, Lyn, Dillon, or Takamaru duke it out by having them fight the other "summoners?" Put it on Pyrosphere so they can fight against Ridley, too!

... Granted, I doubt we'll even get a Toggle option for the Assists... Satan & Nintendog literally do nothing but ruin the flow of battle for everyone, summoner included. I know they're meant to be a challenge, but they change the game from a fight into flailing around trying to figure out where you even are; isn't that why they removed the Invisibility Cloak? That and the fact names still showed above you when it was active, making it also useless?
