So if one made their own TV show thread that was unrelated to Cornballer's own, they could post spoilers in the thread title? It's the being in the title that removes the option from people wanting to remain unspoiled. They literally don't have a choice if they want to participate on this forum.

No, not spoilers. Good thing that didn't happen with this topic, otherwise it would have been deleted and the creator probably would have been banned.

Just like a baby bird, we must learn to fly on our own.

and also have the mods chew our food and spit it in our mouths?

If the thread is about spoilers, no. A mod would mostly change the title to say "SPOILERS". There's an easy way to know what spoilers are. You clearly don't know what they are.

You're comparisons/hypotheticals are... not the best.

Clearly. Because there have been more than a number of posters saying that anything that has been officially announced and released by way of promoting the piece of media cannot possibly constitute spoilers, yet here you are, suddenly disagreeing with that fact.

Did I say that? You're going to have to quote where I said officially announced information is A-OK to post.

I'll be waiting.

well i don't even know what to say about that
You say "Fine I forgive your mistake you dumbfuck"

Well, what's there to be sympathetic about? Saying "lol wow" means you have an actual response... right?

You're just being rude and passive aggressive, that's all.

Why is someone not allowed to be sympathetic towards someone disappointed about the reveal if they're not attacking anyone and just expressing it? I've also clarified like, 4 times that I'm not offended and understand now the title isn't a spoiler.

and how did you get that from what I said?

I said they all have their own rules, by trial and error these threads establish their own boundaries of what should be spoiler tagged and what not. Right now everyone seems to be content with Cornballer's rules in regards to tv threads, everyone's happy there and threads made in violation of those rules get deleted/changed.

Of course I'm not talking tv threads, i'm talking about goddamn Thanos.

As a human being, we can feel empathy towards other people who are expressing a reasonable emotional reaction. This is, in the end, just a stupid movie about space assholes and a talking raccoon.

No need to get all worked up about it.

It's not rude to not feel sympathy for someone who feels they were spoiled by casting information. If I felt sympathy for that (and if you do) then you must be an absolute Saint. Only a Saint would feel sympathy for a man with grass stains on his jeans because, ya know, that man's feelings may be hurt because its his favorite pair of jeans.

I... think you've read the reactions of a few people in this thread incorrectly.

No body is going to force you to feel anything. It's okay, you can go back to not feeling things.

You really call this reasonable? Man, the bar of empathy and sympathy nowadays has gone way below the requirement.

I've read them correctly.

But if you want to discuss empathy and sympathy in a more reasonable way you can PM me.

Wazzy's reaction specifically? Yes.

She said:

"Just to try and clarify for anyone else annoyed with my post, I'm not angry about this. Just a little disappointed and now that things have been discussed, I don't have a problem with the thread title or anything like that."

Are we going to call her a spoilerphobe? Or are we going to ease her into the spoilerless dystopia with open arms?

I've read them correctly.

But if you want to discuss empathy and sympathy in a more reasonable way you can PM me.

Nah, PMs are for unsympathetic people. I'm so chock full of empathy that I never use them.

Erm. What?

There's a difference between feeling sympathy for somebody and considering that not everybody has the same outlook as you. Some people don't feel sympathy for other races when they're at the butt of a joke that they're making, but will often not make that joke around people of that race because they know it might hurt their feelings.

It's literally just a case of considering - being mindful, of the people around you and the fact that they don't share the same values as you.

The people who want to remain spoiler-free can't undo their being spoiled once it's happened. It's not the same the other way around.

This information was not known by everyone, stop acting like it was. We can say that yes, the information was out therefore it isn't a spoiler and I'm fine with that. It doesn't change the fact people didn't know and they can still be disappointed. As long as they're not arguing and throwing a tantrum, I'm not seeing the need for you to come be a dick over someone being disappointed.

The problem is that, as you yourself have proven in this thread - spoilerphobes make the definition of spoiler increasingly hard to pin down, and honestly, almost ARBITRARY.

On one day, a guy might see a non-spoiler in the thread, pitch a fit because he thinks he got spoiled, and enter into a giant argument about it, calling into question posters' consideration and thoughtfulness.

On another day months previous, said poster might see THE EXACT SAME NON-SPOILER, and react accordingly, that is to say, without the handwringing and the hypotheticals and the semantics.

The only thing that determines whether we get scenario 1 or scenario 2 is an element completely out of our control, which just so happens to be THE EXACT ELEMENT you are trying to harangue people into considering.

Luckily there are and were no spoilers then in this case.

I never said don't feel sympathy for people who actually deserve it. I said having sympathy for something this trivial is like getting a grass stain on your jeans.

You can quote me saying people shouldn't feel sympathy for others.

And I'll get that other quote too about me saying official information is A-OK.

If ya'll took the amount of time you spent arguing in this thread, you could've watched the movie twice by now

MOVE YO ASS

I can't cause we can't afford a sitter and we're going on vacation in two days.

In order to vent my frustration with this injustice I have to make fun of people freaking out about Thanos.

See. Now this is a good argument. I like this. You make a very good point here, Bobby. I don't blame the OP as I suppose it wasn't entirely clear just HOW widely known the appearance of Thanos in this film was. Clearly there were many posters that didn't know, while many did. I'd say about half half. But in the argument of spoilers in threads - I've always thought the TOS' suggestion of erring on the side of caution/consideration if one is unsure is the most reasonable course of action. Again, I don't blame the OP in this case, since he may not have had any idea that it was even up for question - even if many, many of the responses in this thread prove that it was. OP isn't to blame.

But I don't agree with the amount of hostility, vitriol or attacks directed at either side simply because they share different values. There has been a disturbing amount of belittling that has gone beyond the usual drunken fun jesting.

They are arguing. People are throwing a tantrum. Brains broke because of it. Literally broke. I'm a dick for saying something so trivial doesn't deserve sympathy?

What's the point of watching the movie at this point after that thread title tho?

Because now you can SEE Thanos get killed by Iron Man 5 movies early and why!

Woah bro. Woah.

It's not out here yet. :(

TOMORROW THO

I can't cause we can't afford a sitter and we're going on vacation in two days.

If you'd like I can do my stick puppet interpretation of the movie!

If you'd like I can do my stick puppet interpretation of the movie!

As much as that would be... fun... I think I'd rather see it in the theater where I can stand out front with a big sign that says 'THANOS IS IN GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY' and a picture of Zeliard's avatar.

Where did Marrec say sympathize with everyone in the thread, exactly? He clearly said that the people who are just disappointed but aren't throwing a fit we can sympathize with.

He's not forcing you to be sympathetic. You just don't have to be a dick because someone is disappointed.

I don't see how what I wrote is deserving of attitudes like yours.

Yay @ bolded! MY WORK IS REDEEMED

Also I would fucking howl at that

You know how with many big TV series when a director is attached to the project it really just means they direct the pilot episode to "create the tone" and then never have anything to do with the rest of the series again? Yeah, it's like that. :)
So basically we got Darabont'd :(

Of course OP isn't to blame - he didn't post a spoiler. :)

I think another factor that needs to be taken into account is that a lot of spoilerphobes don't know to spring into spoiler-attack-mode until someone else suggests to them that they might have have their "pure" experience soiled against their will. Again, lets look at the previous thread, featuring no less than four posters in THIS thread:

At no point did ANYONE in that thread suggest that maybe the factoid being posted in the title of a thread was a spoiler. Because nobody did so, nobody else in the thread thought to react like a Spoilerphobe. They just took the title as given, read the link in the OP, and proceeded to their speculation/judgment phase of the thread. Same exact facts, but no fake whistleblowing to shape how another poster *should* react to the information.

In THIS thread, someone who hasn't been paying attention and pretty literally doesn't know what they're talking about puts up the spoiler signal, and now the thread is completely derailed, even though a spoiler hasn't been posted. Because people have the possibility that they're being spoiled (they're not) planted in their head now, they react IMMEDIATELY in the negative, and it snowballs from there.

So you end up with a very frustrating situation on a messageboard, which is a person who doesn't know what they're talking about dictating the direction of the discussion for everyone else.

While he may directly say, "be sympathetic"--he is implying it.

What attitude am I giving off? My words aren't hostile, aggressive, demeaning, or even sarcastic. Whatever I am giving off is being interpreted by you.

All I'm saying is something this trivial doesn't deserve sympathy. If you think it does you're entitled to that position.

Good points made. In agreement.
