Under Night In-birth Exe:Late |OT| Under Night In-America

It's weird how small of a window you have to delay cancels on block in this game. Of the few characters I've tried, Eltnum has huge windows for staggering normals, but other characters' 2A staggers and chains out of 5B/2B are pretty much true blockstrings. That being said, 5A has a huge stagger window for almost every character I've tried and you can stagger 5A into itself with that jump-cancel trick, so maybe that's where you can find opportunities to reset your blockstring.

I need to play around with the dummy more to see where the gaps are in my chains and where I can set up tick throws. Actually, I need to play real matches to practice this stuff but I don't want to play online because my internet is bad lol.

how do you do a reverse beat?

Chaining a higher level normal into a lower level normal is a reverse beat. You can chain any normal (barring a few command normals) into any other normal unless you've chained into that normal before. For example, 5B > 5C > 5A is okay, but 5B > 5C > 5B isn't. A common technique is to make a blockstring that pushes the opponent out far enough that you can end your blockstring in a whiffed 5A/2A to reduce your recovery.

LOL Merkava has to have some of the easiest high damage combos I've ever done in a fighting game god damn.

No wonder there are only a few good seth's it's like that old Iron Man and Vergil picture :lol

thanks, this makes everything a whole lot easier

I dunno how to handle Merkava. He's like a god tier dhalsim. invincible limbs, a blockable cmd grab that also hits behind him, a dive kick, flight, a reversal option that beats backdashes, fast half to full screen normals....

Anyone want to go for a few fights? Name on PSN is same as here, just with a "-" in the middle. East Coast USA BTW.

No headset on PS3, so the only speaking I'll be doing is with my first / blades / rapier, lol.

Came here after i read French Bread Served on Japanese Thighs on the thread title. Going away now disappointed. Where is the Japanese thighs?

LOL, my first Wald fight online, and he tries to lame me out with the Infinite. WOHOO! Not really mad at all, I was so mindshocked at even seeing a Wald right then, I just enjoyed the exhibition, lol.

The Eltinums (and .... Orie?) are the most consistent damagers I'm running into. Carmine gets to run stuff on me because I don't know his play well. I've still only met 1 Walk and 1 Hilda player today... I'm glad to see first-hand the kind of things I need to work on with my Orie, though:)

I should've just done UNIEL. My BB session with a friend did not go well. lol

Sorry to hear that! Random bad connection day?

So wait, how does this reverse beat thing work, and what you can use in a blockstring? Because I saw this and it kinda contradicts the point of reverse beat, if it's true. Or is this for combos and not blockstrings?

How does this contradict Reverse Beat? It's the same thing

Reverse Beat just describes the act of going from a higher level attack to a lower in a chain, rather than the typical weak->medium->strong chain progression in other games

The rule applies for both blockstrings and combos. Basically, it gives you more possible string routes and stagger opportunities.

For characters with fast 2As or 5As, this also allows you to replace the recovery of a laggy attack with the duration of the fast attack, making it less disadvantageous on block. Self-chaining attacks (some As) give you a a route to deceptive chain resets, giving you your normals back and more pressure options.

Eltnum illustrates how powerful these concepts can be, as the game she's from (Melty Blood) revolved around this mechanic for pressure and she retained most of these options in UNIEL.

Didn't realize it applies to crouching and standing mixed, and C > A/A > C.

the netcode in this game is very good. I was getting really good matches against vocab and my net is ass

If i remember correctly, you are also in Toronto right? I recently brought a ps3 to play this game and would love to add you. My PSN is CB_Riou. Hopefully our connection will be good haha.

Ah.

It also applies to command normals as well I think, but I forget if there's a universal rule for that or if it's all character specific

I wonder if Vanilla hates Carmine yet lol

Edit: GGs :P

Was okay once I started blocking.

Yup Toronto, I'll add ya.

Nah man you don't understand. It's cool tho I can hit up next level and I have training partners

Nah, I probably do. I highly doubt your net is worse than mine. what's you dl/ul and how consistent is it? Im maybe a tier above dahbomb and hes Tizoc tier.

btw apparently in the new version that came out in the arcades 30 minutes after release someone found an infinite combo lol.

From what a co-worker told me the version thats on the consoles is 2 behind the arcades now? Or something like that.

My PSN is Lostconfused or LostWhitey if anyone wants to add me.

I am pretty terrible at fighting games though, so don't expect much.

Guess its time to start planning another patch.

The nice thing about systems like ALL.Net and Nesica, I guess, is that you can patch those out pretty easily lol. I don't know about consoles though. :\
