Celes from FF VI. Struggle and victory.
Second, why is "women" in quotation marks? All this seems to do is suggest you don't mean women literally, but rather as a euphemism.
A really prominent theme in the MGS franchise is that women involved with war or combat usually suffer just as much as any man does. There aren't any gimmicky deaths really, women are treated like anyone else on the battlefield.

Chill, the OP probably just did that because people's definition of "woman" vs. "girl" may differ, I.E. Ellie is a teen so some might not call her a "woman" yet since she might not be seen as an adult in some cultures.Second, why is "women" in quotation marks? Samus and The Boss for me. Forever and ever.

Likely because Ellie isn't a woman yet.
It's mentioned in the first line of the OP, too.
The only game where Samus gets any real characterization is Other M. And it's offensive, misogynistic garbage.
Outside of the fourth one (and even then, they're special forces as opposed to regular mooks), pretty much every woman you kill is a major character who dies a dramatic death. It has great female characters, but I'm not really seeing how it lines up with your point.

Chris from Suikoden III is probably my favorite female protagonist, design and personality wise. She's awesome.![]()

One of the better examples out of Japan, no doubt.

Emily from Deadly Premontion
The greatest of all time:
Offensive to who exactly?
The Boss.
Strong, commanding voice. Has very specific philosophies and morality. Was one of the greatest soldiers of the 20th century, cited as one of the main reasons why the Allies won WW2.
Even though shes a solider she has femininity, but shes very masculine as well. She never demands respect, she earned it.
Okay, which character deaths in the MGS franchise aren't dramatic?
I mean, you shoot a dying woman right in the face, twice. Don't know of many games where you execute women like that, where they're a solider and your mission is to dispose of them.
Probably one of the best female characters in anything.
Geez what is going on here.
First, why is representation of women something we should rank, such that there is a "best"? Why not "great examples of women characters in video games"? Representation of women is not a subject for list wars.

Because Ellie is technically a teen and not yet an adult. Did you read the OP?Why is "women" in quotes randomly?
I honestly can't think of too many examples. The Boss is definitely one.

The countless mooks you kill. They're all dudes, the fourth one aside.
