So they improved the textures and improved the scale of characters, environments, and objects so they appear more realistic. Looks good. How cool would it be if they included a photo mode? :O

I am excited for this, resident evil 1 was the first game to scare the living shit out of me. Annoying seeing another remaster as it seems like so far these next gen consoles are just all about the remaster, but that really doesnt bother me too much, just would like some new stuff

I think this looks amazing and this announcement made my F'n week!

No lie, these remasters are incredible! Mainly because, for me, 3 of my top favorite games of all time have all had one announced this year:
The Last of Us
GTA V
REmake

I neeeeeed a physical release of this.

This game is gonna look so good in motion. Despite the super high contrast, I'm really digging the enhancements they've made overall. I thought it was a straight port, but its clear they've gone back and reworked a lot of things. The fog is gonna be amazinggg.

Looks like they raised the contrast and crushed the blacks to hide the lack of detail/resolution in the remaster. Original looks much better, there's so much stuff you don't even see anymore in the new version because everything is black. Yeah, I'll be skipping this lazy cash grab.

What was the glitch?

1) Put all items in item box
2) Put Grenade Launcher in upper-left item slot
3) Put Incendiary Rounds in upper-right item slot
4) Close box
5) Open inventory
6) Equip Grenade Launcher
7) Open box
8) Select Incendiary Rounds from inventory
9) Press ''A'' twice
10) Move cursor to Incendiary Rounds inside box
11) Press ''A'' twice

Gives you 200+ grenade rounds in the launcher for w/e type were equipped. Most use incendiary rounds but can be done with all three types

I think it looks worse. The painting in the background wasn't great before, but it's been completely destroyed now.

On second viewing after enlarging the image i'd probably agree. Although at the normal size the emulation looks a little matte to me and the remaster looks better. I don't think I have the eye for it though.

That wont be the case here, as they're up-scaling the pre-rendered stuff, not leaving it the same resolution. The quality will depend on how well they up-scale it.

So if RE2 PC and DC were running at 640x480 and the backgrounds were 320x240 then what do you think was happening to the backgrounds?

Wow.

Guess Capcom saw that HD texture pack yesterday and went "oh shit, someone's doing something we should have done 2 years ago! Quickly, to the announcement-mobile!"

Exactly. I won't be skipping it though. If nobody buys this, there's no way we'll ever get another one of those.

What makes people think it will look better on current gen? Just because it outputs a higher resolution doesn't make it look better. The more you upsize the backgrounds the blurrier they'll get and the worse it'll look, which might make it look even worse overall because the difference between the backgrounds and the 3D models will be that much bigger.

Awesome, I have no idea. So it is safe to assume that Capcom will implement that feature in REmake.

I think it's a safe bet, there's existing precedent with the original PC ports and the doors are mainly there to hide load times which should be irrelevant, at least on PC.

Thinking about it, I remember the original Gamecube version had slight pauses between screens (not just the door opening animations) so the game could load the next background. I assume those will be gone in this new version, so the game may actually run a little smoother... That'd be cool.

Look at the poor chair and desk in the remaster, crushed into oblivion hiding their details.

It does look terrible. I'm going to hope that this is another case in which there's been some kind of tampering with the screenshots and the actual game looks fine, which did happen with RE4HD before its release. Cause if those screens are actually representative of shading in the game then I would just prefer them to do a bare bones port than this.

Yeah there was some loading quirk and there was certainly a noticeable pause during cutscenes, although it wasn't the fault of the Gamecube itself because in RE: Zero it wasn't there at all and the backgrounds and cutscenes got seemingly more complex with their animations and whatnot and there was no such loading issue.

Why exactly is it unrealistic to expect them to redo the pre-rendered backgrounds?

I mean, of course it's gonna cost them more than just slapping some filters on them and be done with it but the amount of work is not really in the region of Avatar animation or is it?

Static backgrounds with some animated elements, right?

Give some Studio a Gamecube and the original REmake and they wont need more than that.
The time and effort it takes to make a CGI trailer for a modern game that lasts only a few minutes is probably bigger, remember the Dead Island trailers? Those people would have recreated the remake 3d scenes 3 times over before the trailer was finished.

Yes, I'm simplifying the undertaking and talking out of my ass, but they could literally not put less effort into the backgrounds than what they are doing here.

Don't we have people here working in that space (3d rendering/animation)? Take a wild guess at the costs? (wouldn't say much but I'm kinda curious)

It's unreasonable for a $40 game. If they did go back and re-do basically 90% of the game's art assets from scratch, you're probably talking about a $60 game at that point, and not enough people would be willing to pay $60 for a 12-year-old game.

The real question is how the hell would they still have the uncompressed video files and not the scene files?
The scene files would most likely be smaller even compared to SD video.
And it's like keeping the transfer of a movie done for DVD and throwing away the negative.

I'm willing to bet they don't have the uncompressed CG cutscenes.

Awesome to hear but man I find it hard to believe they're just doing 1. Why not the original three? Seems like tge smartest move.

They came out on different generations. How would you even begin to HD-ify a PSX game?

REmake was and still is a beautiful game, if anything 0 should get the same treatment but I'm fine with just this. Can't wait to play it, though I was hoping it would come out on current consoles at the same time as last gen.
