And have said before the worst thing is that he's not even funny most of the time.

If he's gonna be stuck to one thing at least make him be good at it?

His jokes always come off stilted huh? What is strange is like, not only does the joke not work for the audience (they always land flat), but even the characters around him seem to just get annoyed with it.

I don't really get what they are going for with him. Yeah, I get he's supposed to be Sokka, whatever.

patience is a virtue

You were spot on about the next episode...

Maybe there is hope!

I think the main problem is that Bolin's jokes are usually really bad, but other than the occasional eye roll, it's never really expanded on. He says something, everyone ignores him to the point where you wonder why he said anything at all.

You can do the whole bad joke, joke fine, by just having a character say something like (Wow that was genuinely awful) Or have the character telling the joke wait a moment, then repeating it to still only silence.

Sokka wasn't just funny because of his bad jokes, but he was funny because his personality played off of other people well. Though Aang's group was overall more snarkier when it came to such things than Korra's group.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I think that is what bothers me so much about it. Either they ignore him, or they seem to find it annoying (like in this last episode, where Mako kind of chewed him out for wasting their time). It kind of bugs me, because it goes beyond Bolin just having bad jokes, but to a point where it actually impacts the story/characters in the sense that, they don't even think he's funny.

So if even the characters don't even find him funny, then it kind of just makes him look like an annoying jackass, that they have to tolerate/put up with.

Bolin might be unfunny but it really says something when he's my favorite male character from the krew and I'm rooting for him. Who do we have besides him? Mako? That new douchey dubstep hearing Aladdin kid? Do not want.

i like Kai

and hes got green eyes, so he fits into the theme for my character related affections

Amon and P'Li are the only outliers, but they're bad guys

Kai was really obnoxious at first. But they kind of made him better after he got captured. Little moments like him going easy on his fellow inmate pushed him in the right direction. I still think his archetype is semi-annoying (the cocky-cool kid)...but eh. I think even Aang would have annoyed me, if it wasn't for his moments of kindness and weakness. Kai so far hasn't shown much weakness, and is always smug. You want to smack him.

Funny enough, I forgot all about Kai. Guy pretty much has become irrelevant outside of hooking up with Jinora. lol Tenzin.

Maybe I'm still sour over the zutara people not shutting up about how that was meant to be so each time I see a bad boy character I. immediately think the creators are trying to please these fans.

Don't forget how the Earth assistant guy can go into the spiritual world willy nilly.

I'm chalking that up to the spirit gates being open and it being much easier for "spiritual" people to enter to the spirit world at will.

Iroh apparently entered the spirit world at one point in his life as well and he was able to see spirit Aang and Rokus dragon.

Also I really like Kai :<

I always thought that even with people like Iroh, it was a very rare thing for people to be able to project themselves into the spirit world. I guess I could buy the idea that the spirit portals being open has now made it easier to project yourself into it.

I mean I guess? We pretty much are just left to assume a lot of things about the world and how it works post-the portals being open.

I've always kind of wondered though. Prior to Korra's version of the spirit world, how was it that there were spirits that lived in the physical world (like the Panda Spirit). Sure...Aang had to project his spirit, but he + the panda bear spirit were actually running around in the physical world (but couldn't be seen). It wasn't until later that he'd go deeper into the actual spirit world.

Which is strange. If the portals were always closed, then why did spirits still exist in the physical realm? And when did the spirit world go from being a separate place, as opposed to being another layer of the physical world. I found that confusing even in ATLA. But the Beginnings origin story kind of made some things not entirely jive for me.

I really, really, REALLY think we're going to get a two Book (3 and 4) arch with the current one.

The title for the final episode is
Venom of the Red Lotus, which is pretty slanted towards the bad guys for it to be an ending that could go either way or hide the fact that the good guys will win.

Would be down. I've always thought the self contained format was a major factor in this show having poor writing (not enough time to flesh things out). But the writers have always stated in interviews that the series would always have this format.

Only reason I'm starting to think that maybe they are breaking from that, was how directly the finale of Book 2 impacted Book 3, and them tying Unalaq to this seasons bad guys. That said, the self contained format technically holds up if the main conflict is resolved within the season.

So...if Zaheer is defeated and the Red Lotus plot is resolved, then the format continues.

I don't think there is anything wrong with self contained seasons, Jojo does it really well and most parts have a very loose connection to one another. I just think the writing doesn't know what to focus on.

Count me in for liking Kai.

I'd rather see where he goes as a character than just complain about the fact that he's a troublemaker.

Just read Rift Part 2.

Avatar Yangchen is so awesome.

It really reminds me of why the whole past life conceit is great sincw you can have these mentoring sections and also cool little flashbacks

Also reminds me of why Korra is so disappointing since we never really got her interacting with her past lives, which makes losing them so pointless.

Nothing wrong with the format itself. But I think it's totally wrong for these writers. I don't think they are capable of writing for it. Although personally....I much prefer an over-arching format, but have no issue with self-contained. I guess I just generally like something bigger going on in the background, which has time to flesh out and develop.

Hmm, I'm surprised to see so many people saying they like Kai. We really didn't get much from the guy. I guess I could say the same thing about those hating him. But really, I'm just indifferent to him. I thought he was a smug asshole in 1-2 episodes, then he quickly became a bit more likable, only to be banished to the valley of forgotten side characters. You know, the place Asami went to in Book 2.

Welp Nick went and put some pretty massive spoilers on their site for the next couple of episodes
I don't understand why the hell they would go and put these up

Pretty Big Spoilers
Spoilers!

So long Earth Queen looking at the gif
Bosco is finally avenged

lol we pretty much called
oxygen bending
.

I don't know how fans find this stuff on Nick's site though. I fuckin hate it, can't stand being there for more then a minute. Anyways, this company is awful. Seriously, what the fuck. If you are going to spoil major plot points, just release the rest of the episodes digitally you fucks.

Does this mean I have to avoid this thread again?

I mean, unless people start talking about it without spoiler bars. But that would be ban worthy. So don't click the spoiler bars?

EDIT: Let me clarify, the gif they posted is a MASSIVE spoiler for a major plot, but at the same time, you can't assume what happens just by the gif. So it kind of doesn't spoil at the same time? But you don't want to look if you like to be spoiler free. I'm just saying, what happens in the GIF could just be a piece of something, and we don't know the outcome.

But yeah, don't luck.

Does this mean I have to avoid this thread again?

if you can't control yourself from clicking black bars then yes. As long as the thread sticks to the convention for spoilers (including bold titles mentioning spoiler material) then it should be alright.

just skip those posts or talk about TLA :p.

I guess I wont look then. I'm rarely one who cares about spoilers, but I guess I care enough right now not to have been eager to look like I normally do.

Still I doubt I'd be mad if I saw it.

well goodbye Korra thread

it was nice while it lasted

any time a big spoiler comes out somebody has to hint at it or talk around how good/bad it is before it airs, so I'm out for the duration I guess

I'm surprised they could do that. It would explain why they aren't airing the show on TV some.

Spoilered, just in case. No details mentioned, though.

i hope book 4 goes up all at once instead of this week to week thing

i mean... if somethings going to leak for EVERY EPISODE then you might as well dump it

They should just release the rest of this season digitally already. It's so dumb. They are going to spoil major plot, and yet make people wait. I would gladly fork over money right now to watch the last 4 episodes back to back.

Ok lol I figured it'd be way easier on myself if I just looked at the spoiler now,
and honestly it didn't even phase me, not even slightly.

After last episode I completely expected Zaheer to take out the earth queen.

Edit: Actually the way he killed her surprised me tho lol

Gif Spoilers
I'm sure Korra or someone in the gang will rush in and stop Zaheer suffocating the queen. Doubt they would show someone suffocating to death on the show but then again they have been pushing the limits with this show
