Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

This is what my Kirby cartridge looks like. NoA is just dumb sometimes.

I wouldn't mind some of the cut Melee clones coming back (Pichu, Roy), but is there really any need for Dr. Mario to be his own character? I'm sure most people would be satisfied with him as an alt for Mario.

As for me, the only character I really want back from Melee is Mewtwo. He was fun to play as. I think he has a chance; if he's not in the base game, there's always the possibility of DLC.

Dr. Mario actually plays a bit differently than Mario, due to having slightly different properties on his attacks, plus a different down-B and down-aerial than Brawl and Smash 4 Mario. Really, with the minimal effort it'd take compared to an alternate costume, I think he'd be better as his own character.

I didn't really have any most wanted newcomers left after Brawl that were within the realm of possibility except for an Animal Crossing character and Little Mac, and I really like the newcomers we've gotten so far. I'd guess I'd be a little upset if we end up not actually getting a Rhythm Heaven character or R.O.B. is cut or something, but I'd get over it. Not much they could do to mess it up now.

I don't mean to come off like I'm white-knighting, nor do I mean to sound judgmental of anyone. I'm not. I'm just critiquing the attitude some have where they're apathetic or even pleased when characters are cut.

I just think everyone loses when characters are cut. Someone loses a character that really made them happy and that served as their main connection to the game... The roster is less varied, less interesting... And it doesn't do the player base any favors, which ultimately means less people for everyone to play with and against.

I don't expect it, but I would LOVE for everyone from Brawl to come back, plus Mewtwo from Melee. And hey, if they can swing it, bring back the cut clones from Melee, as well. :-)

I don't mean to sound like an ass like before; your view is an admirable one. One that I wish I could share. I just find it odd when a person gets angry at another for not having any personal ties with a character or even less so care for the feelings of the others who do. In the end, that person is spending 40/60 bucks on a game that he/she seem absolutely fine by. They shouldn't have to abide by the feelings of others who feel personally hurt by the product and be insulted for not caring about their feelings.

Actually, I would want Dr. Mario back if it meant having his hard-hitting A attacks, Special Doctor Tornado back, seeing as how customizable Mario doesn't. But I like what I've seen of Mario so far in 4 so here's hoping.

So it seems like Bandana Dee is starting to becoming quite the reoccurring character in the Kirby games. His first playable appearance in Return to Dreamland, his cameo in Triple Deluxe, and his presence in the new Canvas Curse-like game for Wii U. I'd be down for him being in Smash, spears and all.

The child in me hates the idea though. I grew up watching the Kirby anime and I really liked one of the characters from that show, Escargoon. I know Sakurai had a difficult time working with some of the people behind that show. I'd assume he may not even like the character. Doesn't help he's never been in a Kirby game...except his appearance in Mass Attack!

I'm a huge Kirby fan, but the idea of a playable Waddle Dee doesn't sit well with me. They might as well add a Goomba at that point.

It doesn't help that Bandana Dee is an actual Waddle Dee. I like the idea of a moveset revolving around a spear so I'd be okay with him. I will say the Kirby game have a ton of other characters that would be more creative than Dee though.

when I get home from work im gonna rewatch the lucina and robin reveal trailer and indulge myself in videos about the reveal, cause atm, somehow im feeling nostalgic about that

So, who of you are saving up your Digital Deluxe Promotion money to get a massive discount on Smash once it's released on the eShop? Usually I'd want to get the game physical, but Smash is what guaranteed I'd get a Wii U from the second it was announced, so it's very likely it'll always be on my system. Plus, unlike so many Wii U games, I'm not a fan of the artbox, making the decision all the easier!

Cue Nintendo confirming that rumor where each physical copy would come with an Amiibo and flipping my plans entirely

Actually, Bandana Dee first appeared in Super Star Ultra! :3

But, uh, yeah, there are plenty of Kirby characters that would be more interesting choices in my opinion. Why put in a Waddle Dee with a spear when you can include Galacta Knight or one of the animal friends from the old games?

I hope there is some Pilotwings 64 representation in this game. I loved Pilotwings Resort, so I'm thrilled by the stage, but PW64 was a part of my childhood and will always be nostalgic for me. As soon as I get the WiiU version, first thing I'm checking in the music menu is what PW64 tunes were included!

You mean just Super Star/Fun Pak.

It was canon in any game you had a second Kirby like Dream Course.

Was he in the original Super Star? I specifically remember him showing up in
Return of the King
which was exclusive to Ultra. Or was he the first mate Waddle Dee in the original Super Star too? :o

Yup! He's in the wood breaking game as an opponent.

Oh yeah, that explains the bandana, doesn't it? He has a really bizarre character progression now that I think of it: he went from a normal enemy with themed headgear for a mini-game, then got a minor role as (basically) a joke character in Super Star Ultra... and then somehow moved up to a playable character and staple ally character!

I wish the animal friends got that kind of treatment. If the guy who directed those games were still alive he might be able to push for their inclusion but they'll probably just be trophies again unfortunately. :c

Kirby's shitty animal friends are in kind of a weird position. Since we've gone back to whole and proper movesets for each individual ability, their main gimmick of giving a unique spin to each ability doesn't really have a place.

They're not forgotten, since they make cameo appearances all the time, but they don't mesh terribly well with Kirby's current playstyle.

Agreed. They are due for a AT appearance though along with DK's. Not all of them of course but whoever could be a unique sort of support AT that characters can ride and attack with.

Again, I'm not big into "representation," but Kirby, Meta Knight, and Dedede so perfectly epitomize the Kirby series that any additional characters would upset that balance. It's the only series in Smash Bros. I feel that way about -- I'm not against new Mario, Pokémon, or Zelda characters, but Kirby just seems "finished" to me.
