Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

Weather change is Light Cloud to Heavy Cloud (or the other way around). In a replay it's harder to notice (not much sky time in the camera angles).

Will probably record a race at Donington National.

Did you have a chance to do this with the day/night and weather transitions?

About the camera changes, I wouldn't rule them out. This is a first pass, if I'm not mistaken.

This video already sports accelerated time and weather (both x10). I will try to record a video that shows the transition from day to night in a replay.

Have they added ANY replay cameras to Dubai yet?

Now you can feel the grip of the tyres when going through fast corners, and how it goes more and more thin as you push. Back with the former FFB, you had to resort to visual cues and have more of a gut feeling of when you were losing the car.

This is great to hear as the FFB was one of my biggest complaints in how it transmitted (or rather DIDN'T) transmit data to you in regards to what was happening with the physics system. It made the car feel disconnected from you and it's one thing that Assetto really gets right.

So yeah, that's great to hear.

Project CARS comparison between two builds with 2 years of difference between them, the build 249 of July 2012 and build 782 of today, 6th August 2014. The track chosen for the comparison is California Highway and the BAC Mono as car.

Sounds awesome, fresquito. I need to hit that up right away.
Remember to use r20 tyres.

Sorry, I've been busy here (first son was born a month and half ago). I've tried some times, but AI has seen a step back in the braking pattern and I've had a hard time finding time to do a race that feels smooth enough. It will not have rain, since rain is getting fixed, as it looks really bad in replays.

1) I don't know, they're adding new camera sets from time to time. I will check and come back to you.

Talking about cameras, they will only have one set at release, but they will add in new sets post-release.

2) I don't want to oversell it. Like I said, I'm not a FFB expert. Everyone should make their own judgement. But I really am happy with the new topology.

Very interesting! That's probably the chattiest ffb I've ever tried without having to resort to canned effects. There's some weirdness to it like you mentioned, but that's just needs ironing out. If it's a polished version of that, it'll be really fun.

pCARS has come so far from a vehicle dynamics standpoint. It feels nothing like it used to. It'll absolutely have a place alongside the other sims. There's no doubt about it.

While the newer build could be considered objectively "better", I prefer the older versions lighting better. It looks more natural without all the obnoxious lens flaring and God rays of the newer build. They could also stand to turn down the tree volume.

eh... i dunno.. latest build looks incredible. older build looked like that sort of flat-ish forza light.

They just announced the already licensed tracks. Mount Panorama is in the game (can't tell if it will be at release) under the name Bathurst.

There's no danger of injunctions being taken out to block these unofficial facsimilies of famous circuits, is there? I imagine the various license holders must be pretty miffed that SMS are circumventing official channels just by employing a subtle name change.

I don't know. I just know SMS is still working on licenses. We, at WMD, don't have information about this matter. We know they have a deal, or are closing a deal, with Mazda, for istance, but that's known because Namco's PR slipped the info in the Gamespot video.

I hope they can strike dealss and have real names for every track in the game.

The name doesn't get changed until the licensing is completed. 3D models take a lot longer than paperwork! They've had previous dealings with many of the tracks, so I'd imagine they have assurances and/or understand it's merely a formality.

I'd be very surprised to see any of the placeholder names make it to retail. I think they'd cut the track before they did that for the very reason you stated.

You'd imagine it would go the opposite way (license--->track), but if you really think about this way makes much more sense. Things get cut and added all the time in development.

Man, Sonoma is so much fun. I never race it, but everytime I give it a shot, I have a blast. The same can be said about the BMW 1M: great car.

BTW, No replay cameras for Dubai yet.
Always have been one of my favourite tracks in racing games, lay-out of the corners with the added elevation makes it fun in almost any car.

Also tried the new FFB with the Formula C and besides one issue with brake+steer pull (saw AJ already had a fix coming), it feels very natural. Had no problem, all be it with damage disabled ;) , manoeuvring it through Monaco at pace, specially the Tabac/Piscine section, felt great.

For those with a DK2, new build fixes a lot (tracking 1-1) and is out, curious how and if it works/feels?

I love the layout and the elevation changes but for some reason I've got a real aversion to dry, dusty, beige tracks. I just hate how they look. That's why I love GT6's Laguna Seca - it's the first time I've seen it in a racing game as a lush green oasis rather than a yellow dust bowl.

One of pCARS' environment artists had something similiar in mind for Laguna Seca but got a lot of flak for it on the forums, so it apparently won't happen :/

This is fantastic. There are some turns that I think visually look more realistic in the older build, but the general sense of improvement is great.

Looks great overall, very impressive...

If I were to nitpick though, there are points in that footage where I wish they had taken a less is more approach with adding track side objects. For example just after exiting tunnel (a bit after the 2min mark), think the old build with a clear view of the lake and horizon looks nicer than the new build with trees obstructing the view.

Edit: this is the part I mean, also seems to be some kind of glitch(?) happening with how the sea/mountain is drawn in the distance on the newer build?

Looks a bit low res there. But god damn this is impressive.

It seens there's an embargo until August 14th at gamescom. Until then nothing specific :o)

Yep, Oculus support is still being updated, so there's a NDA for members posting or recording anything outside the forum until after Gamescom.

So, is this big Monday reveal that SMS have been tweeting about to do with OR support or is it something else?

Buiz4c-IUAAQsTe.jpg

Any theories?

BULLCRAP I will believe it when I see it. but it would be a cool way to help potential Wii U buyers know you are taking the game seriousl for their console. Unlike Ubisoft who basically have not said anything about watchdogs since delaying it. We cant even get a damn screenshot

I haven't really followed it since, but have SMS explained, in any depth, why they delayed the Wii U version? Or responded to the deluge of criticism they received with that announcement?

The obvious and standard bullshit, to make sure it's as good as possible. Too bad the PS4/XBO versions will suck ass, because they did not get delayed to ensure the quality is there... or am i reading into that too much?

VR is going to benefit racing games so much. When driving a real car, I have an easier time setting my driving line because I can pickup reference points better with a full field of view. Morpheus and Oculus will kick so much ass in this regard. I can't wait. Thanks for that oculus video. PEACE.

Those chromatic abrasions look a little distracting, but otherwise VR headsets like Oculus really are going to bring racing sims one step closer to imitating reality.
One thing to note is that since the Oculus support is still being implemented, SMS has the NDA thing going where people aren't supposed to post public videos yet. Since they follow this forum, people who post videos like that (whoever the uploader on youtube was) may find it an unfortunate way to get one's PCARS account refunded. :P

Another thing to note is that for ANY DK2 video with chromatic aberration, it's intended to help correct for the lenses. When you look through the lenses, you're supposed to see a more normal image, but the actual on-screen image outside the DK2 looks weird.

This is the opposite of games that add a chromatic aberration effect for artistic purposes -- they're simulating camera/lens problems.

I know there is an NDA but even with the little issues with the beta rift implementation at the moment it truly is stunning.. So hyped for more fleshed out support. Live for speed is great with the DK2 but the graphics are quite bland and I feel that takes away from the immersion. Pcars has (almost) the whole package!

its a perfect fit. in addition to the obvious benefit of true immersion, you'll get a much better sense of speed and, as you alluded to, place in the world. even bigger a deal then landmarks i think seeing where the car is in relation to objects in the world in much better detail will help with passing other cars, absolutely nailing apex's, and coming within inches of barriers --- all things fairly difficult to accomplish with the standard set camera in a racing game.
