Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

People have to eat wetas right? Or at least their larvae? No way a protein source that big goes uneaten, unless they're venomous?

I want a weta pita.

Since all the squeamish folk already left the thread, can I post arachnid gifs?

Now where did leave that rolled up newspaper...

I’m sorry MrSaturn99, but your SmashGAF brothers were just hasty. They were always that way.
You’ll forgive your hasty brothers, won’t you?

Took me like a second to get this reference

Well hopefully my first time watching Attack on Titan with a bunch of nerds will get me out of this funk

If anyone is cut, I'm suiting up Arnold-in-Commando-style and army-crawling through every vent at the Bandai-Namco building. I'll infiltrate their defenses and, while aiming a weapon at them that looks suspiciously like a potato but they don't want to take any chances, I'll force them to patch those characters back into the game. Then, I'll have a bare-chested brawl with Sakurai on a catwalk over a steaming vat of acid, before returning to my womenfolk and fellow countrymen here in Smash-GAF.

So, I assume you're already preparing for this since there's a pretty good chance Pokemon Trainer is cut?

Heath. Lawd have mercy.

jk i'm cool with bugs as long as they're tucked safely away in gifs like that

Let's try to survive Weekend GAF.

1. Favorite characters you don't find fun to play as:
2. Favorite playstyles on characters you just find "meh":
3. Characters you already love with playstyles you enjoy:
4. Characters you grew to love in general because of their Smash inclusion:

1. Wario. Next to Luigi, he's probably my second favorite Mario character, but I just don't like his Smash incarnation. It's hard for me to explain exactly what's wrong with him - naturally, not liking his moveset, I haven't spent much time playing as him - but he feels somehow clumsy. With his weight, I always expect him to move slower than he does, so his motion feels choppy. I have a devil of a time trying to hit people with his aerials, too.
2. DK. I like DK's specials, especially his down special, but I just can't get excited for him as a character. It's probably because I never really played DK games as a kid (I think I only ever played a DK game once, for about a day on my cousin's Gameboy.)
3. Luigi. I've been maining Luigi in every game possible since I was a little kid. At the time, I picked him because he was green, which was my favorite color, and I've stuck with him ever since. I love his speedy attacks, his forward and back airs, and his forward smash. Hitting his up-B right is always satisfying, too.
I also have a lot of fun with Kirby and Peach. dat Peach Bomber.
4. Ness. I'd never heard of Earthbound when Smash came out, so I had no idea who Ness was. But I came to love his sparkly, floaty jumps, his aerials, his PK Thunder recovery, and his colorful specials. It was because of his inclusion in Smash that I decided to play Earthbound, which was an excellent decision.

Well, I didn't get any veterans or newcomer this week, but I got Ganondorf in Hyrule Warriors and three new Mega Evolutions in OR/AS. A good week for geeks, I'd say.

3. Marth (and probably Lucina when we get there), 64 Kirby
4. Meta Knight, dat brokenness

4. Characters you grew to love in general because of their Smash inclusion:

1. Link (too slow, heavy and campy), Zelda (too dainty), Mario & Luigi (had no knockback in Brawl, Luigi changes to Super Jump Punch from N64 Smash still make me sad), Donkey Kong (Isn't his Jungle Beat self), Bowser (big and heavy and clunky) Diddy Kong , Samus (moves awkwardly, has none of the agility like her N64 self), Metaknight (the rare case of a character being so stupid [re: good] that it just didn't sit right despite being right up my alley otheriwse)
2. Mewtwo. Project M shows that the move set was great but needed one or two things to really make it shine though. Roy also, worse Marth with fire, yay..?
3. Marth, Pit, Lucas, Fox, Falco, Peach, Snake
4. Captain Falcon, Marth, Pit, Lucas, Snake

I'll probably do the rest some other time.

Yup :P

Is this turning into the avatar quote thread now though? Seems avatars are getting quoted left-right-and center on this page XD
Do you want it to be one? lol

Why did I just watch that?
lol it tasted bad but at least he can wash it down with a cup of Grylls brand urine

HawthorneKitty hasn't shown up to be avatar quoted yet though!
He'll be back. They always come back.

4. Characters you grew to love in general because of their Smash inclusion:

1. Link, Meta Knight, and Yoshi

LoZ is my all time favorite series, Link is a character I've just never enjoyed using in Smash. Something's always been off about him in the official games, Project M is the only version of Smash where I even remotely enjoy playing as Link. Metaknight is my favorite Kirby character, and yeah he's top tier, but I just never had fun with him really can't explain why, maybe it was Brawl's floatier physics because I enjoy MK a lot more in Project M. I've always loved Yoshi since he first appeared, but god is he awful in Smash, not even Project M can make him fun to play <_<

I feel like the above made me sound like I'm tooting Project M's horn, it's not my intention at all so hopefully no one takes it the wrong way.

2. Toon Link, Ice Climbers, Jigglypuff, Mr G&W

I was very meh about Toon Link being in Brawl, but damn was he the closest to fun I've ever had with any version of Link to that point. I was also very meh on IC the first time I saw them, then I played them and have loved them ever since, same with Jigglypuff and Mr G&W.

3. Kirby, Captain Falcon, Marth, Ike

Huge Kirby fan, loved Captain Falcons design from Nintendo power, always loved the images and videos I had seen of the Fire Emblem series before Melee came out, and loved Ike's games.

4. Kind of repeat from question 2, but Ice Climbers, Jigglypuff, Toon Link, and Mr G&W

There really is no one who's in any version of Smash so far that I'm still "...meh..." on other then Ganondorf as a Falcon clone. I LOVE Ganondorf, just not as a clone and if Sakurai gives him a unique moveset I'll be cool.

If Duck Hunt Dog gets in then I'll have something to MEH about

Post one of a camel spider. Those things are even worse than wetas!

I remember watching this super shitty SciFi channel original movie where mutant camel spiders hitched a ride from Afghanistan to the U.S. and started killing everyone. But then a Texas sheriff and a bunch of rednecks and teenagers shot 'em all up and saved the day.

You bringing up Duck Hunt Dog reminded me of something I wanted to ask. When people are asking for him to be in, are they asking for him to be an assist trophy or something or actually playable? I can't see playable happening. Or I'm just not imaginative enough to come up with a move set for it.

Doesn't really count if you just do it randomly.....

so yeah I wonder if we'll get 100% Wii U updates in the time between 3DS and Wii U release?

The 3DS version still has unlockable content, so I'd say the weeks following the 3DS launch will have a healthy amount of 3DS shots.

Playable. Or at least, that's what I used to think before someone pointed out the Zapper in Japan looks like a real gun. I pictured him using the bright orange American version to shoot pixelated bullets, while the ducks fight at his side and assist with his recovery.

Like so:

We got Mr. Game and Watch, so I really think anything and anyone is possible at this point.

it's zelda really that shows anyone is possible honestly; it's saying something when most of her moves are based off the spells you get from the great fairies.

Wait, he throws the discs too??

Good point.

Yeah DHD's chances really are screwed by the zapper being US only. The ray gun basically is the zapper for all intents and purposes. Duck Hunt would be a fantastic assist trophy though

Here's an interesting workaround:

You don't see the Zapper. Instead, you see crosshairs. Kind of like Palutena's Auto-Reticle. :-)

This would also be truer to the game, where the player offscreen is shooting, and the dog simply reacts!

I mean, Zelda at least used magic in OOT. It wasn't incredibly far-fected.

I don't think we had even seen an in-game model of Captain Falcon before Smash Bros, though. That's pretty crazy.

I saw one called Ice Spiders on their years ago. Main character's name was Dash Dashial.

Can we take one more second to talk about Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze music into Smash 4? I just remembered Jammin' Jams and fuck this soundtrack is the best soundtrack of the year from Nintendo.

That part from 1:30 to 1:37 is just so godlike.

Yeah, Jammin' Jams is one of the more underrated songs in TF

Whole soundtrack is incredible
