Kool AD is putting out better shit than the entirety of the Das discography. Believe it.

it's true. he has a nice ear for production and his music may not be as "hype" as das racist's discography, but it's nice and relaxing to listen to. it also helps that he is a feature on a bunch of experimental hip hop albums now (like milo), the dude all of a suddenly is good at rapping (let's admit it, he wasn't all that great in das racist), and the dude seems like he is doing well (just got married, releasing a book soon, sells art on instagram, and he isn't broke like heems, who had to ask people to donate money to him through paypal)

kool a.d definitely got the most out of the das racist break up (and honestly, i think he was the one was sick of DR, not heems)

he deleted the tumblr post, but i found the quote on a kanye to the thread
Now usually I dont do this but.. if u liked my free mixtapes please donate some money to my paypal. I wasn’t raised to do **** like this, ask others for money, so when I thought about kickstarter, or indiegogo, or straight up having people send money to my paypal like I’ve seen other artists do I held back. Although I’ve finished my album and until producers sign contracts I can’t tour the US and Europe and have no means for income. I spent every last penny and then borrowed some to pay the IRS and my credit is getting ****ed and my travels are about to be cut short. I never expected a return when I put time and money into Greedhead. I wanted to release FREE music, public art, when I put out Das Racist, Le1F, Aaantwon, Lakutis, and my own music for free. Although, yeah, tough times call for begging on the internet. Even a little bit helps me pay my bills. I’m not stunting anymore too. No more Hermes scarves.
a month or two later, he answered a question on tumblr and basically said that he had "no money" and was planning on "moving in with his parents" and that he had "no friends"
I was hoping you were going to give me advice. Im about to move back to New York after 5 months with no money and what feels like no friends back home. Im going to live at home w my family in the suburbs. I dont have a credit card, an atm card, a phone, a laptop, a driver’s license. I don’t know. Ive been working hard, motivated, performing but ive been away in Asia where im constantly inspired. Ive left my vices back home. But im going back.

Maybe sometimes im too honest on social media. I read message boards where people are like “he’s an addict” “he went to wesleyan why is he broke” “he was begging for money”. But then I get on tumblr and a lot of the things people say to me make me want to continue to be open because people can relate. People can relate to being lonely, depressed, heartbroken, anxious, broke, self-destructive, to fear, to vices, to each other.
i honestly feel like heems the reason why das racist isn't together anymore (i mean hell, kool ad doesn't even follow him on twitter), but idk, i'm glad das racist isn't together anymore

kool AD is a better rapper than Heems and is definitely seeming more well-adjusted post-DR. (tho I'm not sure charging $100 a pop for improved highlighter drawings of dogs and dicks and religious symbols is that much better than just begging for paypal donations. it's better, but...not that much better.) Just that Kool's projects haven't grabbed me. yeah the tapes are relaxing, nice beats, he can lay down a verse. Just not cohesive or gripping, yknow? especially the bus tapes, which have a lot of great songs and a lot of complete filler. word ok's a huge step in the right direction, feels actually curated and directed. Doesn't suddenly wipe away DR's 3 straight records of wall-to-wall great songs

In a Reddit AMA Kool A.D. explained that his music is like free-jazz, and now I understand what he's talking about. Kool A.D. has dropped some amazing verses, and he has also dropped some very careless and hilarious verses, he just does what he wants, when he wants to. Kool A.D.'s solo albums, are filled with so much content.

Das Racist on The Last Huzzah also signifies what I like about Das Racist, while Kool A.D. drops a smooth verse with clever lines, Heems comes in yelling hilariously, with hilarious adlibs and clever lines. That song is an amazing posse cut, everyone on the track was incredible. Despot killed that shit, his flow and rhyme scheme made it hard for me to figure out what he was saying because everything rhymed so well.

I like 51, my favorite project from him is 63, 19 is OK. The OK albums are good. Das Racist broke up before they could do anything really special. Mike Finito, probably the best producer associated with them, could have produced an entire project with Das Racist and it would have been heat. I like the Das Racist albums, but whenever I do listen to them, I'm reminded that they did brake up, and they probably won't make music again together, ever.

Nehru Jackets to me is the best project to come from anyone in Das Racist, probably because it's filled with a bunch of Mike Finito beats, and the songs are really good. Swate is probably one of the best Das Racist songs. Actually Swate to me is what defines Das Racist, even though it was made about right before they broke up.

3 Seashells is still my favorite project from this year, with Open Mike Eagle's album coming to a close second.

Someone mentioned the Hot Sugar EP?

Yo, I had it downloaded and unlistened for a few months, when I threw on Leverage, I was amazed, ya boy Kool A.D. murdered it.

Moneyball is the best I've heard Kool A.D., that mixture between, being nonchalant, kind of lazy, and silly, and complex. I love Moneyball, that Mike Finito beat doe.

I still need to dig into nehru jackets. I feel like i somehow came to wild water kingdom first, and didn't love it

Heard of them, never listened tho till I popped in this thread.

99% of the links posted had great music, but I dont see the appeal in the rapping.

Seems like classic "Indy/Underground" beats, usually jazzy with good sampling, but very generic rhymes.

Enjoy the music tho!

saw Heems on wednesday night, played some new stuff that sounded pretty tight.

surprised so many ppl are saying they prefer Kool AD, he kinda seems like the hipster douche (trustfunder?) of the group. guess i'll have to listen to his tapes.

They were hipsters with corny lyrics. Listen to The Last Huzzah Remix for a perfect illustration of just how wack they were. It's a throwaway track and El-P, Danny Brown and Despot all bring it; Das Racist can't hang with any of them.

yeah wild water kingdom is pretty average.
it was an average mixtape with a bunch of fillers, but the few songs on there that really work are amazing

personally, i'm excited for heems' new stuff. i kinda expect to sound totally different from the mixtapes (since those mixtapes were recorded while he was with das racist), so yeah, can't wait for it

i think you like jazz or whatever or just laidback music, kool a.d. is perfect for that. the dude has clever lines and some of them are just downright funny (not "haha funny" but funny in a seinfeld way)

I'll believe it when it's out. hima's been weird on social media presence, like greedhead was putting out releases and he wasn't publicizing them for weeks. Could completely see this just being him trying to get people to talk about him

Just listened to it. It's got some dope shit, but it's probably a little too long for its own good. It's like 25 tracks. Mike Finito can make some fucking beats, though.

Didn't want to be the one to bump this, so thank you above poster.

But thought this was an interesting interview with Heems I read today:

http://grantland.com/hollywood-prospectus/heems-eat-pray-thug/

"Once we’re seated at adjacent corners of a table at Baby’s All Right, a restaurant/venue in Williamsburg, I mention that Heems looks sharp but not exactly well. “How should I be right now?” he mumbles. “How would you expect me to be?” I have no idea how he feels about doing this interview. His reply to my initial email request for a profile was “yes yes yes so down.” A few days later, by text: “Im in bk now can meet. well talk outside or at the fried chicken spot. But I gotta leave in an hour.” Then, earlier today: “U can ask me follow ups after the set but ill be drunk then.”"

Only one guest spot, and it's Deepak Chopra.

Dude wasn't kidding about losing all his friends, was he?

EDIT: Sounds like he wants to make a more racially-charged Fantastic Damage.
