In a Reddit AMA Kool A.D. explained that his music is like free-jazz, and now I understand what he's talking about. Kool A.D. has dropped some amazing verses, and he has also dropped some very careless and hilarious verses, he just does what he wants, when he wants to. Kool A.D.'s solo albums, are filled with so much content.
Das Racist on The Last Huzzah also signifies what I like about Das Racist, while Kool A.D. drops a smooth verse with clever lines, Heems comes in yelling hilariously, with hilarious adlibs and clever lines. That song is an amazing posse cut, everyone on the track was incredible. Despot killed that shit, his flow and rhyme scheme made it hard for me to figure out what he was saying because everything rhymed so well.
I like 51, my favorite project from him is 63, 19 is OK. The OK albums are good. Das Racist broke up before they could do anything really special. Mike Finito, probably the best producer associated with them, could have produced an entire project with Das Racist and it would have been heat. I like the Das Racist albums, but whenever I do listen to them, I'm reminded that they did brake up, and they probably won't make music again together, ever.
Nehru Jackets to me is the best project to come from anyone in Das Racist, probably because it's filled with a bunch of Mike Finito beats, and the songs are
really good.
Swate is probably one of the best Das Racist songs. Actually Swate to me is what defines Das Racist, even though it was made about right before they broke up.
3 Seashells is still my favorite project from this year, with Open Mike Eagle's album coming to a close second.
Someone mentioned the Hot Sugar EP?
Yo, I had it downloaded and unlistened for a few months, when I threw on
Leverage, I was amazed, ya boy Kool A.D. murdered it.
Moneyball is the best I've heard Kool A.D., that mixture between, being nonchalant, kind of lazy, and silly, and complex. I love Moneyball, that Mike Finito beat doe.
