This riot is not simply the result of this shooting but a culmination of unnecessary exorbitant violence against black people by law enforcement in America. Something has to change. I just hope no one else has to be executed for it to happen.

If any positive comes from this, I hope it leads to a further national push to have every officer be required to wear recording equipment that must be activated anytime they are about to respond to an incident. That would be a great step.

Fine work everybody! We've got our revenge and ruined almost any chance for civil communication!

The state destroyed that chance when they made it unofficial policy to let murdering cops off the hook. The state only communicates with the poor through the language of violence. This is simply the poor talking back.

It's a vicious circle of crime and poverty. Beyond the obvious ramifications for the businesses, tonight has created dozens of more criminals that will end up in jail, which will negatively effect dozens of families.

Yea, because before black people started rioting, shit was all sunshine and rainbows. This "circle of crime and poverty" begins and ends with the capitalist state. Every problem you listed could be solved if the state chose to, and there would never be a reason for riots.

I never mentioned how the circle started, just that it sure as hell is spinning now.

People are rioting out of frustration because there is literally no other outlet to the violence and fear that they live in. LA riots weren't about getting free fucking stuff. Its an outlet being let out, as there is no system in place for minorities to get actual justice. There is 0 representation of the rights of civilians in our government. All you get is your neighborhood being infected with drugs by the CIA, tested on, and not chosen when it comes times to getting hired. That is why this keeps happening, because they keep killing people and nothing happens. People riot when their emotions are high, its what folks do around the world.

Amen. I'm sure as shit not going to defend rioting as the "correct" choice of action, but when your options are severely limited, it sure as shit sends a message. If you can't understand what that message is, that's on you.

All I know is that if I'm playing SimCity or something and the people are rioting, it means something is totally fucked up, not that people are assholes or want to destroy the world because herp-derp.

Did you know Halo invented the FPS?

These guys are guarding their store in between lots of looting. Some poor dude tried to buy liquor, but it's past 12.

Another unarmed black man shot dead by the same person supposed to protect him. After reading the Wal-Mart thread, I was afraid I might actually go to bed without reading of another identical incident.

Phew! That was close!

wait, is there really looting going on? evidence please.

You serious?

There are plenty of links on the previous pages. Scanners are reporting shots fired everywhere, rioters shooting. Civilians are being hurt. Things are turning violent and it's a shame.

"A Riot is the language of the unheard"-Martin Luther King Jr.

A riot is the language of the uncivilized. -Me. Just now. There is absolutely no excuse for looting against businesses or homes that have absolutely nothing to do with your grievances. None. And as a "bonus," it harms the cause in question.

Unarmed and shot 10 times. Simply disgusting.

But I'm not sure where the assumption that this was motivated by race comes from. Was the cop white?

When innocent people turn on the New in the morning and destruction and rioting I wonder what their thoughts are.

Only details I have heard confirmed are that an unarmed 17 year old black male was shot 10 times by a police officer and died at the scene. Have any other details been released?

On the live stream there were a bunch of people breaking into and out of a sports store. Stole rims too.

Been watching this stream: http://fox2now.com/on-air/live-streaming/

Watching the stream now. These people aren't too bright if they think they are going to get away with looting with cameras and witnesses everywhere. Anyways, what is happening has nothing to do with the kid getting shot, these people are opportunistic thieves is all.

Supposedly there was a struggle for the gun. Chief is being interviewed on KSDK right now. And he said officer was treated for a head wound after the incident.

If you say so.

Well, as far as the looting and vandalism go, he's right.

I hope the owner of that QuikTrip thinks twice now before shooting some unarmed kid 10 times. I hope you and your employees who will now likely have to find new jobs enjoy the burned down store, assholes.

Yeaaaaah. You should read the op or a stream before you post. You're way out of your element.

Wow earlier today the story was the kid stole a candy bar and ran from police and one of the officers decided to just unload on him in the back, knocking him down, then they finished him off as he was lying there wounded. wtf

Why are you condoning looting/rioting? I understand making sure whoever killed who faces justice, but what about these rioters? Is their behavior excusable?

The looting in particular. I was watching the stream as a large group of vehicles showed up to loot a store shorty after the police left.

Truth is somewhere in the middle.

Really bizarre weekend.

I think a few later stories have referred to him as 18? I think there is some confusion in the media.

We need more brave people like in the LA riots.

I can't tell if that is supposed to be sarcastic or not.

I was mocking dumb ass looters. Just curious, anyone know if this happens to be the store the kid supposedly stole something from?

I mean yea, a kid getting shot is bad, but people stealing five dollar t-shirts? We can't let that shit stand!

Good thing you aren't widely quoted. The rioting and looting wouldn't be happening if cops didn't regularly harass and kill people of color.

wants to fuck an Asian grill.
Owner of the clothing store looted was black.

Hurting one's own community.

Also the mayor is getting death threats, but that's including 'anonymous' as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Their behavior is understandable. I think it's dumb and counterproductive, but understanding it (as both reactive and opportunistic) doesn't mean it's being condoned.

It's like when you explain why al Qaeda might have attacked us during 9/11 during a Republican debate and Rudy Giuliani throws a fit about you "blaming America."

This is actually pretty common during riots.

There is nothing understandable about burning down innocent people's businesses and stealing from people that weren't involved. All the people doing that are scum.

Go figure people feel the law doesn't represent them they stop obeying the law. Awful situation sure, but it makes sense.

Lotta people in this thread saying things like "I'm fed up with this shit" and all, people rioting, you oughta figure they had the same thought, just a little closer to their hearts than folks on a message board on the Internet.

Awful situation, surely, lotta things bad for a lotta people. No doubt. But if you really in your soul felt the authority don't care about you, maybe only thing you can is lash against the authority. Plenty people felt that way in Boston, 177X.
