This is disgusting. This cop needs to have an example made of him and we need some major law enforcement reform in this country.

the white guilt is palpable in this thread.

remember, there are two sides to every story. I'm not going to pretend like I know what happened between that guy and the cop, but *apparently* he reached for the cops gun. I don't care what race you are, that is incredibly stupid and a death sentence

edit: and before everyone starts talking about how the police narrative doesn't hold up, I agree, he was probably shot in the back while fleeing. His murder was just that, but pretending like he's entirely innocent is just inaccurate

Thing I love about threads like this is how it invariably shows me the people I want to friend and the people I want to block. I need to know who's too stupid to warrant my attention

Reminds me of how neighborhoods in DC got destroyed by black protests in the 60's and never got better until gentrification. Before the riots they were huge bastions of black and minority-owned businesses... and they torched the futures of generations of city-livers.

It's self-destructive behavior that keeps people in poverty.

While that may be true, there are plenty of minority areas that DIDNT have riots in the 60s that ALSO were economically destroyed because of white flight, and government policies that essentially meant zero resources were allocated to minority areas.

It's not self-destructive behavior that keeps people in poverty. it's systemic racism.

You should maybe not try and blame the victims so much?

"Poor people wouldnt be poor if they werent lazy" is essentially what youre saying.

Tut-tut. Look at these foolish black people rioting. They take a flimsy excuse like spending their entire lives being treated as second class citizens, being persecuted on a daily basis by security and police, being redlined out of prospering neighborhoods, being cheated out of a decent education, being unable to get decent jobs because of racism, being incarcerated an order of magnitude more often than other groups, and being continually portrayed as ugly and threatening in every corner of mass media, and just because of that decide to lose their shit. Just because blacks have learned over a lifetime that the rules the rest of society benefit from don't apply to them, and that regardless of whether they attempt to follow those rules or not they'll still be treated unfairly and will never be given an honest chance, they can't just explode in rage and break them! They have to respect the system that has been overwhelmingly rigged against them for over 200 years. They have to keep eating the shit plate they've been served and express any dissatisfaction with it in a nice non-threatening calm way that's acceptable to the upstanding white society whose acceptance they have yet to earn. If they let a never ending lifetime of enduring insult after insult and injury after injury provoke them into sudden outbursts of anger, they'll never convince the rest of us that they deserve to stop being insulted and injured. Riot and ruin those already ruined and economically suppressed places they can't afford transportation out of? They're clearly just doing it to themselves.

When are black people finally going to take responsibility for being persecuted and properly react to that persecution in an approved fashion? America's been benevolently waiting so long for them to get their necks out from under our boots, but without jostling us in the process, of course. I guess they'll just stay where we forced them to be until they wise up. The ball is in their court.

Now let's spend more pages focusing on pictures of individual rioters with sagging pants, since that's a far more serious issue than the sanctioned systemic murder and incarceration of young black men. Tut-tut.

He could be completely innocent though. Maybe the cop totally overreacted?

Bloodborne is shit
I don't understand the he went for his gun argument. If you're in the process of wrestling with someone who's going for your gun, then yeah you'd be forced to pull and fire so that your weapon wouldn't be used against you. But this young man was shot in the back, while running away. Even if he did go for the cops gun prior, that struggle was clearly over and he was fleeing. At that point your life is no longer in danger so why shoot?

so on the off chance the dude didn't provoke the cop in the slightest he gets a pass? cops may be racist but they don't shoot random people. according to police reports the guy reached for his gun

Why should anyone believe what the police reports say unless there's actual evidence to back it up?

I don't even have to live in America and I wouldn't trust 90% of your police force as far as I could throw them.

The riots and looting completely took away the public perception leverage from the victim's family. It accomplished nothing but harm; Rather simple.

well crafted and true, but at the end of the day they're still looting and rioting opportunist criminals.

Eye witness reports and the police report paints two different pictures. Truth is somewhere in the middle.

I would pray dude wasn't reaching for his gun. This is not HBO.

We will see.

true, but like I said before even racist cops don't shoot without provocation. you can really picture a scenario where this guy was minding his own business then got capped? no he assaulted a cop and got shot. of course murdering him in the street is an over reaction and then some but it didn't happen out of nowhere

I actually can, considering how often I hear about police killings where the officer just gets some paid leave for a month or two.

I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being a fabricated situation, I'd be way more surprised if the guy did actually assault the cop just because people must know it's a bad idea by now, considering how your cops being massively trigger-happy is practically common knowledge around the world.

I believe it's happening in some parts of the country, but things like this make me wish all police offers were fitted with recording devices. Then there would be little question as to what actually happened, at least compared to how things seem to go without recordings.

Without them, people are left to speculate about who is lying when the stories inevitably don't match up.

I would say time will tell, but it probably won't. whatever police report they put out will be the end of it, no matter how inaccurate it may be. but, like I said before provocations very rarely happen for no reason at all. more than likely, there was a scuffle at least. not vouching for this cop, but there are entirely too many bleeding heart liberals in this thread assuming the victim did nothing at all. that's just as assumptious as saying he attacked the cop and deserved everything he got

It would make sense if he assaulted the cop. But people there said he didn't.

Even then it doesn't make sense because he was nowhere near the cop car and he was shot multiple times in the back, obviously fleeing the scene.

Do your cops not carry tasers as standard issue? Shouldn't they be interested more in detaining apparent criminals than killing them?

Why did he not chase this apparent assailant who was unarmed either on foot or by car, or use his taser as he started to run from the vehicle?

It's fucking disgusting the way some police act in your country, this is not an appropriate response to an unarmed teenager running away from you, whether he attacked you or not.

Was he 17 or 18?

18, for the difference that makes.

Right, was he also shot 10 times? I know I saw that rumor but I'm still catching up on everything that happened and trying to figure out what actually happened.

Multiple times is the most accurate way. I know it's at least 5, but hell. There's the possibility that he emptied the fucking clip. And if that's true, well...

Just saw this video retweeted that features a guy that claims to be an eyewitness. Mentions Brown was on his knees with his hands in the air when the cop shot him in the head, and then shot 4 more times. I should note that this video is NSFW due to language.

Uninformed, and incredibly wrong. Jesus Christ, you are ignorant.

This kid was murdered several feet from the cops car with his back turned and hands were in the air.

Completely agree. I've actually talked to some local police officers about having cameras on the dash or even having them on as part of the uniform. I had these conversations while I met with police as part of my last job. They did not like the idea of having everything they do monitored the entire time they are on shift especially times when they aren't doing anything but sitting in their cars (picking their noses or other embarrassing things might occur). They would feel like times where they meet up with fellow officers just to talk, it could get them in trouble with their bosses, etc. Basically it would make the job suck worse for them where it is already a sucky job. It seems to be the biggest reason it hasn't happened yet, because the police are strongly against it.

But I think a good compromise would be that video recorded by police are not monitored or watched unless a crime occurs in which watching the video would be necessary and requested during an investigation. This would be law and there would be strict procedures, as in the police would know for certain they aren't being monitored or spied on while on duty. I think that would make cops feel easier about it if they knew that was the case and everybody wins. Sure many cops won't like it, but pretty much too bad. You have a loaded weapon and have complete authority over civilians. In a free society your actions need to be recorded.

if you would have taken time to read my previous comments, I called what the cop did MURDER. I was simply stating that there was a provocation previously

Yes.

And I would love to start posting videos of police slaughtering black males who were unarmed and not a threat to any fucking thing. Where do you think the whole "black male, looks like he has a gun!" joke that has been circulating for the passed 40 years, comes from?

And there was NO provocation. Stop trying to make the dead boy some kind of aggressor. He was no where near the cops cruiser.

If you're an authority, supported by several others with a code of brotherhood, and constantly use your power to lord over people, as well as bored, you'd more than likely try to at the very least have some fun torturing those you see as lesser and wouldn't even blink at just one opportunity (such as your prey taking of and running) to use your gun. Sometimes sadists can be cops.
