Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Well the wide brimmed cowboy hat shown ages ago illustrated that original hats are a possibility, but when 90%+ seem to be based off of Plaza ones, people are not wrong in their wishing for their favourite hats to make an appearance. If ones favourite character can't make the cut, well hopefully ones favourite hat can.
Possible. I see them influenced, but not the exact same model. I have a feeling it will be like AT's in that some tie in to revealed fighters (Ashley for example) and some are just there for kicks (like Tak). So yeah it could mean something or nothing at all. My guess is most of the hats are based on the roster with some being unique (like frog or cowboy hat).

That's a frog hat.
Yeah, I noticed it more with the girl. Still, the hat is way different than the 3DS version. So it is not a direct model rip.

I know I'm opening up a can of worms here, but what is the appeal of Waluigi for most people? I don't mean that in an annoyed or "you like a dumb character" way, I'm legitimately asking.

Is it because he's so bad he's a funny troll character? Do you want him as the Dan of Smash Bros. and the various Mario spin-offs? Or do you actually find him to be a good and enjoyable character? I really want to know in what way most people are fans of him.

Luigi is the Dan of the Nintendo universe.

Wario Land series is truth my smash brothers, much better than Yoshi's rapidly declining run of platforming outings while we're on about the Mario offshoots.

Snap, good to know. I bet that must've been killer to see Cpt. Falcon use the Falcon punch after it appeared in the game first.

It should be different, because it's a massive fuck up on Sakurai's part if he goes about it the same way and my interest in playing Sm4sh competitively just went way down.

The fact that this image exists, coupled with what we've seen today, does not make me think that he's going to treat custom moves differently to equipment and put them in an quick to access location.

God damn it.

Yeah, it does not look good. Even when playing casually, I would be too lazy to go to a separate menu just to change the special attacks of a character.

But Sakurai did say that you could use custom movesets when playing with friends online, right? The customization screen can't be too far from the character select screen...

What's with all the dislike/lukewarmness for Wario Land all of a sudden? They're some of Nintendo's best platformers, I think.

Y'all just have bad taste
/s

Besides Wario Land 1 and VB Wario Land, they're very different games from your typical platformers. They're not unlike the Yoshi games, where it's more about slower exploration of the levels rather than being an acrobat darting through obstacles with grace and finesse.

While Mario makes use of a myriad of tricks and innate speed and acrobatics, Wario lumbers through levels like a brute, bashing and smashing and bending everything else to suit him. It's a different style of play and I can see how someone would like one but not the other.

except shake it/dimension which is just bad. good feel is bad at video games

Wario Land 2 and 3 remain some of my favorite platformers of all time. Just kind of a chill atmosphere, where there may be no danger of dying, but there are plenty of nooks and crannies to check out and several puzzles involving Wario's various moves and transformations to be solved, which reveal all sorts of treasures when completed. Granted, WL2 is more about linear stages where you make your way to a goal (or a secret goal in some stages - yay branching paths), while WL3 is more about building your moveset back up from an initial pared-down state, while revisiting stages as your moveset grows or items you acquire open up new areas, but they play pretty similarly in spite of those differences.

Didn't like 1 and 4 quite as much. 1 just feels extremely janky in comparison to its later games, and while 4 is much more on the level of 2 and 3 (the addition of a health meter does admittedly work pretty well with the gameplay design, better than I'd feared it would), it's just far too short. Shake It! was pretty good too, but I'd rank it below 4 (but above 1); I'm not entirely sure why they decided they had to ape the WL4 formula so closely when WL2, WL3 and WL4 all built on one another with their own differing goals and gameplay quirks. There wasn't even really a good reason for aping the timed escape aspect of the game!

Yeah, I can totally see why someone would find WL games slow or clunky or bland or whatever the complaint is. I was just a little surprised to see a couple people express that all at once. In the past, whenever WL is brought up around here, pretty much everyone who's spoken has liked the series.

and shake it is the best game in the series so i dunno what you're on about

I wouldn't say Shake It "aped" the timed escape thing from WL4. WL4's escapes were pretty bland, but Shake It, adding the dasherators, really gave the escape sections some substance. You weren't just backtracking through the level; you were moving through the level in a whole new way, making use of new mechanics (the sliding, the longer jumps, the quick turns,) and often you were taking a whole different path and getting heretofore unreachable gems and treasures.

I'm gonna main a Waluigi mii

Good for you. When you do that, then invite me to your room so I can wreck Waluigi so much :P

I think Waluigi is way way overrated character in Nintendo universe. He belong in filler section and stay there as long as he can before he rot away.

Yeah, see this proves that it is not straight up rips and more inspirations. I really do want them to pick Rhythm Heaven monkey hat for Smash 4.
I don't think anyone said they were rips since the models are clearly higher quality, but it is very obvious what they are based on. So far we've only had the wide brimmed cowboy hat that is unique and I suspect that non Nintendo hats will still outnumber Nintendo hats.

WHAT I'M ON ABOUT IS

Outside of pretty graphics, Shake It is a pretty shallow game. You see most of what the game has to offer in the first three levels and without Wario's abilities from 2, 3 and 4 there's very little variety.

I just don't think Good Feel's very good at making varied and compelling games. I've tried going back to both Shake It and Epic Yarn a number of times, but I can't bring myself to play more than one or two levels without getting bored. They're definitely not bad games, but I don't think they stack up to their kin.

I hope customization isn't connected to streetpass.
I didn't unlock anything there and I don't even know how to do it, do I have to meet people with a 3DS? Do I have to walk with the 3DS? OH GOD DO I HAVE TO WALK?

Same here. I have no real way to get Streetpasses. I'm not carrying my hulking 3DSXL around on the off chance I meet some kid also carrying their's. When I see Streetpass content in games I just sigh and wish they realized not everyone can get Streetpasses.

http://www.takuchat.com/firmly-beli...character-selection-slots-50-characters-play/

An article about why SSB4 will have 50 characters to play as by looking at the 3DS menu screen.

First off, I know this was not a full version of the game, but I don’t believe this screen will change much from this to the final version. I don’t even think the character icons will get any smaller. If you look in the boxes most characters heads barely fit in them, which means the boxes themselves probably aren’t getting smaller. If you take into consideration the player selection token’s size, which doesn’t overlap and will just barely fit 4 selections, and the fact that it characters need to be clearly visible on an original 3DS(which is slightly smaller than a drivers license), you’ll probably agree that this is likely what we’re going to see in the final version. At least as far as dimensions go. This is further backed up by a Smash Law, but I’ll explain about the multiples of 3 later.

The bottom screen of the 3DS shows what characters have been selected, and has the other options for the game, so there won’t be any normal character selection boxes found there. It’s not hard to figure out from here that this screen will be 6×4 when filled up. So now you’re probably wondering how exactly we’re going to get a full roster if a single static screen only has 24 character slots; Especially since we already have 36 characters confirmed to be in SSB4.

Well, if we were to flip to another page of characters we would have a second page of 24, which would make for the total of 48. The 48 slots that I now firmly believe we’re going to have for Super Smash Brothers 4. That makes for 47 characters plus random, or 45 characters if Mii’s for some reason end up taking 3 slots. Of course this may not be how the screen for the 3DS version works. It could use vertical screen scrolling instead, and that would certainly be a functional option; But 6 still seems to be an important number for this type of screen, and there are some other things to take in consideration from this.

I can't imagine it would be like that except maybe for equipment. I think it would be for getting trophies like streetpassing would give you a random trophy from their collection with maybe a couple exclusive to streetpass

That's funny, I feel it's just the opposite: as you progress, the game is always coming up with new tricks and mechanics. You start with traditional platforming levels, and then you get bomb blocks, and dashing on water, and giant rolling Indiana Jones boulders, ice mechanics, slot machines, submarines, rocket buckets, etc. Many of the secret levels are disappointing, as they're just more difficult versions of regular levels, but I think Shake It does an excellent job in terms of variety.

I definitely agree on the lack of abilities, though. Aside from Flaming Wario (which is well-implemented) and the rarely-used Snowball Wario and Tiny Wario, there's nothing. It's a shame that this signature element of the series was left out.

damn, Heath cutthroat

You're not wrong about him belonging in the filler section, though.

Got me there.

I guess it comes down to whether Sakurai and his team can invent a moveset that will distinguish a character from the rest of the roster. Good source material helps, but, you're right, sometimes they can just pull something out of the air. So I suppose Waluigi isn't in because Sakurai either can't come up with anything truly unique for him or because he just doesn't want to include the character for some reason. Maybe he feels Mario, Luigi, and Wario are enough to cover that angle, and Waluigi would just be redundant.

Mysterious Masahiro Castle indeed.
It's just that Nintendo is jealous because Waluigi wasn't made by them!

Also technically Waluigi had another recurring move.

Hell, if I'm actually Thanos Cat. I would clenched my fist with Infinity Glove, and would erase Waluigi from the existence and people's minds. People wouldn't even remember that he would exists, when I proudly told myself that I saved the World from the evilness of Waluigi.

now that the avatar is gone I need to save this for future use

and it will get a lot of use

Batty and Zroid pls.

Heath has been possessed by thanos cat lol

Damn Right.

That's a cat?

*clenched his fist* Look at my eyes, it's cat. Cat, Cat, Cat, CAT!
