Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Pic of the day. If you manage to raise this Special Flag for long enough, an additional KO count will be added to your score in a time match, or you'll get an extra stock for a stock match. When this appears on the stage, the fight for the flag becomes a fierce battle of tactics, which makes things pretty interesting.

BULL.

SHIT.

I really like this item because it, much like the smash ball, would completely shift the flow of the fight, which is what I really love about the items in smash.

We've only gotten one veteran as a POTD for the past half-year. I honestly doubt we get anymore, and will get any remaining veterans revealed pre-release in a Direct or in newcomer videos.

Two, actually... Diddy Kong (2/21) and Ike (5/23). :P

I don't think there's any reason to think we're definitely not getting any more veterans in PotDs until release. At least wait until after Thursday...

ok but see

he doesn't randomly announce trailers at 12:00 AM PST
He did for everyone. For Lucina, and he tells us to watch every direct that has a trailer, so he does and your wrong.

I have to stay up to know if theres a trailer announcement. Its not like I can wait until I wake up and see the announcement. That would be stupid.

Now I can finally sleep. Goodnight, until we meet again in another life.

I think there's a 50/50 chance of seeing Ganondorf this week. But it could also be a case where Sakurai decides to withhold Ganondorf as an in-game unlockable, as per Melee and Brawl. I could see it going either way, to be honest.

mnighttwist.jpg -- What if that one rumor is correct and Ghirahim is announced as a newcomer later this week instead? :-O

Hmm, if they're spaced equally apart, this means 8/25 will be the next veteran reveal...

Heavenly booty, don't lie to me now.

Huh, never knew that describing what a new item does counts as filler. I for one liked this update and think that's a nice little unique thing we've got going on for item matches

The announcement for the FE newcomer trailer wasn't in the PotD, though. The PotD of that day was just the Rayman trophy, and not a single word about the trailer coming up on that day. That was announced on Twitter.

The only time PotD mentioned something about an upcoming event it was E3. Beyond that, announcements only came in through Twitter.

I haven't commented on the update yet, so here are my two cents: It's a really neat item, and for shits and giggles I look forward to doing a match with friends where we set these items to high. In a four-player match, the strategy would be trying to win the fight but also preventing anyone from sneaking away to charge up an S-Flag.

To be fair, I haven't really noticed the difference on that :P

I am totally down for like a "capture the flag" type of match with these things. It would be a timed match so you could focus on scoring by collecting flags rather than KOing opponents.

It was announced on the Friday pic the previous week.

Nope, you got it backwards. PotD was used to hype up every Direct/event where a character was announced except E3.

I await the glorious time where a smash ball and S flag appear around the same time, the person that gets the final smash clears the stage off then is free to get an additional stock to rub it in more.

I have a feeling the Hyrule Warriors release is going to go just like every other "special day" or anniversary that's happened lately: a collective hysteria regarding the imminent reveal of Ganondorf, followed by a PotD that's completely unrelated to Zelda, followed by everyone saying, "Sakurai never reveals characters just because it's a special date, come on guys," finished off with a round of laughter at all the furious Miiverse posts.

That item sounds OP as hell. Hopefully it shows up very, very rarely.

This game is going to have a lot of rare, sought-after items, huh? Smash Balls, Hammers, Golden Hammers, Bats, Dragoon pieces, Daybreak pieces, Master Balls, the Special Flag...

Why are people acting like this is so OP?

You've got some final smashes that can score multiple kills fairly easily (space furries, Sonic, ZSS), an item that heals for 100% damage (heart container, and probably the bottled fairy too), and this will probably be fought over until it disappears quite a bit considering you have to hold it for a seconds to activate it.

If they're anything like Brawl's "special rare items" they'll be showing up WAY too often.

This is true, but that won't stop the hype post train.

I could've sworn he mentioned E3. Whatever. Point is, PotD is not the only source for updates, and those are usually announced either in advance (such as the Friday update), or the day before, if at all. It's not like Nintendo Directs are only mentioned in the PotDs.

Alright. I actually decided to actually look at the PotD announcements. Events that occurred and what happened on PotD:

- Nintendo Direct in August 2013 (Luigi). No announcement for a reveal.

- Nintendo Direct in October 2013 (Sonic). No announcement for a reveal.

- Nintendo Direct in December 2013 (Rosalina). It's mentioned in that day's PotD.

- Nintendo Direct in February 2014 (Mac). It's mentioned in that day's PotD.

- Smash Direct (April 8) had an announcement on the Friday before it happened (April 4), and on the day of the Direct as well (April 8).

- E3 2014 had no announcements in PotD.

- Robin/Lucina/Falcon trailer had no announcements in PotD. The same day was only the Rayman trophy, the entire week before had not a single word on a future trailer. (So you're 100% wrong there Pop-o-matic)

So staying up solely for the promise of a date for a reveal trailer is stupid. The only time the PotD mentions reveals are in relation to Directs, and those usually are announced outside of the PotD as well, and usually either earlier than that.

Olimar was announced right before Pikmin 3 came out and Diddy Kong was announced right before DKCTF. It's not crazy to think they would announce Ganondorf this week alongside Hyrule Warriors.

Diddy Kong was TF's American release though, not the Japanese release (which was when Little Mac was revealed more or less).
