Not really. You want to allow an uninterested NPO to file on behalf of a person in direct conflict with their own rights and against their best interests. How is that not an abuse of the legal system? How would you feel if you found out your parents had left you a nice house, but I decided to screw up your claim of title by intervening on behalf of some random guy they allowed to stay on the property sixty years ago? Not nice huh?

Yes really. I propose that arbitrary solution to this specific problem fully aware that it has potential to be exploited in other scenarios. The thing I really want that exists out side of my arbitrary comment is to prevent people in positions of power from abusing the legal system. Two separate concepts entirely.

Completely shockedand appalled. I said it before and i will say it again, this is murder. Doesn't matter how you spin it, facts still remain that the police knew he was unarmed and he shot to kill when the kid was away from him. That is murder. Not self defense, nor was his life in any mortal danger as the kid was running away. Murder in its entirety. And now the police is trying to justify the killing. If only the president can say something about this as he talk about other things such as the school killing. Something need to kick to shake the entire police department to its rotten core members. FBI will only do so much unless something massive is exposed.

The witness account video broke my heart.

Found one with some more detail.

Freeman Bosley, Johnson’s attorney, told msnbc that the police have yet to interview Johnson. Bosley said that he offered the police an opportunity to speak with Johnson, but they declined.

I can't even participate in this thread anymore. I'm done.

This is just to much... too fucking much...

They are probably going to harass and intimidate that poor kid. I'm glad we have a video recorded statement on record of how he described events already. He should probably lay low for a bit... the cops will definitely be looking to start shit with him.

I'm specifically talking about the post I quoted assuming it's a white racist cop killing a black teenager

It might be, but we don't know yet.

Be real. If this dude was anything but white, they'd have been thrown him under the bus.
Not that him being black would change anything. Black hatred is real for all races.

My hope is that this becomes too big a deal for anyone to try and pull the standard bullshit. Thankfully the investigation is out of the FPD's hands.

Gonna be hard to do that with county and FBI looking over their shoulder and doing their own investigations.

That's not true at all. Blue is blue.

Raw unedited account of what the Missouri police officer did when he gunned down Michael Brown in Ferguson: http://www.cbc.ca/player/News/World/ID/2485993968/

I believe him and I can believe that that is the general thrust of what happened. Officer sees two kids on the street, tells them to get the fuck on the sidewalk, they get "uppity" or "talk back", so he turns around and escalates the situation, because hes damn sure not about to have his "authority" undermined.

It might be, but we don't know yet.

Keeping in mind that only 10 percent of the officers on that force are minorities, let's assume you're right about us not technically knowing what race the cop is yet. Even still, though you may technically be correct in that the post is presumptuous, it's nonetheless a pretty safe presumption. After all, you don't seem to be questioning the integrity of the witness. Given his account, and given the makeup of the department, "racist white cop" is certainly not an outlandish hypothesis.

Yep.

As soon as it gets fired, someone is going to panic. It's scary. If you're in the middle of it, you're mostly incapacitated or compelled to flee or disperse. If you're on the edges, you could very well just panic and decide to shoot. It's just a messy way to disperse a crowd that affects each individual there differently.

I've been gassed and I own guns but I don't agree with you. I've always been told that you don't shoot blindly so I don't see myself popping off shots when I can't see past my barrel.

the shoplifting claim seems bogus after listening to the eye witness account of the Cop starting the situation over the boys standing on a sidewalk trying to cross a street. Seems more like cop was seeking to have his autorita respected

The problem is all we have are witness statements now it's really irritating and perhaps telling the department isn't saying shit. However, I've learned that witness testimony is very unreliable, especially those directly connected to the event.

If anything is a reason to camera/mic up police while they are out of the department or are interacting with the public, it's this story.

If that shit was used during this event, the truth would already be available.

It's not going to be 100% of the time dude. Nothing is an absolute.

Not necessarily.

The black guy murdered in Wal-Mart this week?

No camera footage has been shared.

Why does the characterization of this cop as a "racist white asshole" vs "ass hole" seem to push some peoples buttons? Whether we have all the facts or not there always seems to be certain people with a cape on when it comes to labeling someone racist prematurely.

It's always "let's not jump to any conclusions" when it involves possibly racist behavior but the people have no problem jumping to conclusions on the motive or character of minorities. Am I missing something?

That is a pretty sickening thing to read. I've heard enough horror stories personally told to me and have been around enough cops, good and bad, that Johnson's story, while undoubtedly is his unique perspective, is certainly unfortunately plausible and I'd wager closer to the "truth" that whatever is going to come from the officer's mouth (or his attorney's). Further, I'm really not sure how you can get around the shots fired outside of the vehicle. The ballistics will be very interesting to see-how many shots, angles etc.

My guess is that the initial discharge by the cop spooked him so much that he panicked and made the insane decision to follow with his gun blazing. His career was probably (hopefully) toast due to the multiple breaches of protocol in the first shot in the car and just was in complete rage mode. It will be interesting to see the cops personnel record and see if he has been sanctioned before for anything. these small town cops, even in townships nestled in metros....not exactly the smartest or best trained of the bunch.

The delay in the interview....guessing that there is a protocol that in a high level situation the case is handed off to the County, like happened here, and therefore the delay was inevitable. you certainly don't want the ferguson police interviewing this kid. I work with a retired Stl Metro and will chat him up thursday about this.

Banning the media is going to make things worse as well, as the only news we're going to get is social media accounts, and it's going to lead to enhanced radicalization on both sides.
You think the media (that profits from the chaos mind you) is going to do any better than social media?

Dear Mr. President
Tell me what to do, these FPD acting up in the hood
Send more troops.

Obama: "I am extremely disappointed in the behavior of all parties involved. This is terrible. Gaza has..."

Not making light of the Gaza situation mind you, just illustrating a point: Obama's incredibly bearish on these kind of domestic issues...especially when they involve black people. It's slightly embarrassing.

Or.. Walmart would give them the video. Like they always do. We see security footage of on going crimes all the time via the press.

If I was general in-house counsel I would emphatically tell them NOT to release that video. Probably after trying desperately to transfer out of Walmart in-house counsel.

Great post and a perspective that I agree with.

He's been burned a few times before for making even the vaguest of comments relating to crimes against black people.

Fucking murderer.

Disgusting.

So power tripping asshole trying to get his rocks off while the rest of the department covers his ass.

Protect and serve indeed.
#notallcops.

Maybe the good ones don't know about this bad apple. Maybe all the good cops took a vacation and don't know about this shooting yet. When they come back they'll take care of this bad apple!
