I've worked for Wal-Mart. I know first hand. Those black bubbles are mostly fakes. Just like "security please turn cameras to section B" is a complete bullshit announcement.

Pretty easy to say when you don't live there and have to deal with the consequences. Police are already cracking down hard on people. If a cop gets killed it is going to be way, way worse.
They didn't kick anyone out. They told reporters to move back because they were firing tear gas.

At this point this seems to be more about media management and making the situation on the ground appear extremely precarious. Law enforcement can then justify any actions that are taken, as happened after the Boston bombings.
I would assume they are going for that whole "situation is getting out of control, this is what our officers have to deal with" angle.

From the looks of it and multiple angles it's an individual approaching officers and thus them approaching him with weapons drawn. Probably to illicit that exact response and thus result in these images.
People have been doing this for a while now to get video/images of "police abuse." Personally I think it depreciates the real abuses.
It's good to see you applying benefit of the doubt to that situation.
