Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Well it might land on fact that they might used outdated wifi bands that aren't supported by 3ds but I don't remember which one tho.

That makes sense. I was more reacting to the person who said there was some rule or block that prevented him from playing online. I thought that kind of stuff ended after high school - but as I said, I never lived in the dorms, so I wouldn't really know.

I didn't realize you were just getting the 3DS version. All the more reason for me to jump between the two!

stahp, yer makin' me blush

But yeah, getting a new console might not be feasible for a penniless gap-year student like me :p Besides, I don't play the consoles I already have as often these days, whereas I do use my 3DS a lot. Even if I had the Wii U version, I'd probably play the 3DS one more, anyway.

Super Bash Sisters Tournament?

I'd love to join, but when this game comes out I'll be back in college and I can't play games over WiFi there. School blocks it :(

Aww, well at least I know that you would have joined. If there's any way you can, just let me know, i'll try to help you out.

Yassss <3 I want in ;)

Gotcha! I hope you're ready to lose first round.

By me.

Awesome man, thanks for organising it! :D

Of course! I hope you and everyone has a lot of fun!

I forget about greninja but IIRC most Charizards and Lucario's are male. So the assumption that one is male woudn't be too far fetched because most of them are and the male end espcially in lucario situation is the one they push for summer slam.

I believe jigglypuff is the opposite.

That too, they both have a high male ratio which is another factor into why i'm not including them. Yes, Jigglypuff has a 75% female ratio.

I'll join that super bash sisters thing if there's still room.

Will be my first tournament win!

Yes, there is!

You better give it your all!

I'd like to join the tournament if there's still room.

You actually took the last spot. Lucky you!

Wait... qqmore is Naoshi?

As in, the Project N Naoshi who used to work with Tri?

Yesh, yesh, yesh.

sakurai don't you dare put this on a separate screen

I'm definitely am going to be playing the Wii U one more, but I totally get people only playing the 3DS one. It always annoys me when people act so shocked that some people are doing that; as if buying an entire console is some cheap, easy thing to do.

That would work splendidly. Hopefully it'll be similar to this.

That mock-up is the most ideal thing, but there is the fact that customization isn't just limited to moves.
[thread=448761]We actually had a community thread before the PotD threads.[/thread]
I miss those days. ;_;
This is Sakurai we're talking about. He isn't particularly fond of the competitive scene.
This has nothing to do with the competitive scene.

Not to add on to the conversation, and also not meaning to start anything but if you have a job and is currently finacially stable, consoles should be no biggie moneywise, especially when it comes to WiiU, there are people who thinks a console isnt worth it at a certain price, but if your a gamer with a income in general, you arent generally going to break the bank on one and its pretty easy to just impulse buy one like alot of people do.

That's true for most people, but I've just seen some people act like it's insane that some people are not planning on buying a Wii U for Smash, when $200+ is a lot more some people than for others. I have a pretty decent job, but for me getting a console means really watching how I spend my money for the next month or 2; throw in kids or any kind of debt and it's a whole other story.

Jesus guys, Sakurai never said he isnt fond of the competitive scene, he might even have a newfound appreciation of it since E3, try not to twist this into a narrative like metroid fans uses a mistranslated quote to fucking twist a narative of sakamoto, the one who co-created the series in the first place

Oh I understand, especially when kids are in the mix

It's still a few hundred dollars, and if, like me, you 1) are saving money for grad school, 2) have other priorities/things you want to buy, and 3) don't play your consoles as much as you used to, then a new console and game might be more money than it's worth.

I'm still pretty sure this is what the final roster is going to look like:

ZB9KIOn.png

The layout is based on the 3DS demo, and the characters fall into place with relative ease.

 • The six characters leading the rows (Mario, Link, Pit, Kirby, Pikachu, and Villager) appear on both the 3DS and Wii U box arts. Samus is the only other character to do so. They’re also listed in the order of their debut, with Mario in 1981, Link in 1986, and so on.
 • The middle two rows are led by Kid Icarus and Kirby, two franchises which Sakurai worked on. In Melee and Brawl, Kirby also appeared in the middle of the select screen.
 • The Mario universe encompasses the top row and hooks down at the end to include Wario.
 • Wario and Chorus Kids are touching, which are both developed by the same team.
 • The 1986 Disk System series (Zelda, Metroid, and Kid Icarus) are all touching.
 • Pit is below Link (bow-wielding heroes), and Palutena is below Zelda (titular female mages).
 • Zelda, Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem, and Xenoblade are all touching, which could be broadly categorized as “weapon-based mythology” series.
 • Dedede and Ice Climbers, the hammer wielders, are next to each other.
 • Pokémon and Mother are together, which are both RPG series with ambiguous historical links (Ape/Creatures).
 • Star Fox and F-Zero are touching, which seem to share a universe.
 • The two “captains” (Falcon and Olimar) are together.
 • The hardware-based characters (WFT, R.O.B., and G&W) are together.
 • The two oldest characters from 1980 are together, G&W and Pac-Man.
Of course, a lot of that might be a coincidence, but it’s all reminiscent of the OCD Sakurai exhibited in putting Brawl’s select screen together.

I think the longest gap might've been the E3 reveal trailer all the way up to Olimar.

E3 2013 was June 11, Olimar's reveal on July 12 2013.
The Robin/Lucina/Falcon trailer was shown on July 14, and it's August 12 now. So unless we're getting a character within this week, we'll go beyond the E3-Olimar timespan.

Of course, a lot of that might be a coincidence, but it’s all reminiscent of the OCD Sakurai exhibited in putting Brawl’s select screen together.

Liking things orderly is not OCD. <_< OCD is a serious mental illness, and it vexes me very greatly that people call liking to have things orderly OCD.

I find it hard to believe that there's going to be no DK newcomers after Fire Emblem got 4 characters, it just doesn't make sense in my mind.

I love the look of this roster. Well done. I would only switch Pac-Man and Mega Man's places since Mega Man was announced first, or I'd just go Sonic -> Mega Man -> Pac-Man (since Sonic is a vet).

If this ended up being the final roster, I'd have zero complaints. Sure, I'd love Dixie and/or Krystal, but I've long since made peace with them very likely not happening and I have literally everyone else I could ever realistically want!

EDIT: I actually still think Mewtwo might return and I'll be a bit sad if he doesn't, but that's my only real caveat.

I'd be totally fine with this as a final roster. I'd say it adds enough of my most wanted, while also throwing in some I didn't know I wanted.

Mega Slowbro for Smash.

YES. God he's so adorable. <3
Although Shell Armor over Regeneration is a huge and unfortunate sacrifice...

Keep that abomination away. *shudders*

Stop that, you.

This is sort of coming out of nowhere, but I'm really hoping a lot of you guys are going to stick around post-Smash launch; I'd hate for this community to breakdown too much. I know it's going to happen to a certain degree, but I hope we have some sort of community going throughout Smash 4's lifespan.

Who here is planning on posting in the inevitable Smash 4 OT long past the first few weeks? I feel like we should have some kind of weekly/biweekly online meet-ups, though it all depends on how good the spectator mode ends up being.

Are you kidding? There ain't no stopping this train now, and there certainly ain't no getting off. SmashGAF for life, my friend! ;)

Liking things orderly is not OCD. <_<
Not in itself, but for better or worse, "OCD" has sort of become lazy shorthand for anal retentive/detail oriented/etc. With that said, I legitimately have OCD, and "liking things orderly" can certainly manifest itself as a characteristic.

A Lucas-less roster, huh. I don't care if the golden ratio, the Fibonacci sequence, or some illuminati code is codified into that roster, I'm not supporting it.

I really like this roster. No complaints from me if it ends up being the final one.

Great work

EDIT: I just noticed the lack of Lucas. Snake being gone is bad enough. :(

I find it hard to believe that there's going to be no DK newcomers after Fire Emblem got 4 characters, it just doesn't make sense in my mind.

Attempting to rationalize this just for the hell of it:

Fire Emblem makes entire new casts of characters every game or two. We got the player-character and one of the two most important NPCs of the most recent game, which became a million-seller and basically performed franchise necromancy..

DK games always star DK himself. The other heroes are just sidekicks, and the one-time recurring nemesis has been shelved lately.

So I guess the logic could be used that headliners from a recent game are more important than a long-time recurring sidekick or hibernating bad guy.

Not saying it's fair or accurate or anything. Unless somebody asks in an interview we'll never know.

Are those lizards in smash run Kremlings?

Haha, glad to have you aboard!

That's the biggest loss for me. Mewtwo hurts, but I've sort of accepted it with his absence from Brawl. Really hoping Lucas will make it, though.

It may be a characteristic, but it certainly is not the main thing. A close friend of mine has OCD and he is not really detail-oriented. He's all about germs (or rather, staying free of em). And it's not for better that OCD has become a "lazy shorthand", it's definitely for worse, because it severely spreads misinformation about what OCD actually is.

Mental illnesses are serious issues and the dismissive way many people talk about them makes me angry. It's even worse if you have legitimate OCD - why would you label something that's clearly not the illness you share as such? You of all people should know better. :V

Anyway, enough of that... so how about that Goku.

Miis won't be on a separate menu, what would even be the point of that? They'll have a spot on the CSS like any other character
A darkened out/inaccessible character icon would look terrible when playing online, and considering the inherent nature of Mii Fighters (three different movesets with a high degree of customizability), I wouldn't be surprised to see them relegated to a separate menu. They're unlike the rest of the roster in a lot of ways.

Also, with the roster I'm anticipating, there just isn't any room for them on an 8x6 (3DS) or 12x4 (Wii U) select screen.

Yes to that last bit.

The way I see it, Fire Emblem was a dying franchise with a resurgence in popularity, 4 reps is somewhat deserved, especially considering one of them in a clone.

Meanwhile DK has had a similar resurgence in popularity except that it's far greater in terms of sales than FE is, with an equally popular sequel.

I just heavily dislike the treatment of the Metroid and DK franchises in the smash series, especially when C-tier franchises seemingly get more love.

Also, a 48 character Roster (49 with Miis) is just disappointing anyway...
