Well, let's be clear, it doesn't encourage the behavior and your post was onto something until you posted this.

Your post was more about other officers trusting one another and having each other's backs, even if it's wrong, which yea hit happens. Let's not get thst confused with encouraging oppression, murder, and abuse.

Paid administrative leave. Military gear for day to day citizens. Swat teams being called in for vigels. Racially profiling minorities. I can cite almost any study, almost any book and show you the system is set up to encourage bad cops to do bad things because there is a Blue Wall. Because it's Us. Vs. them. Because policing today is more about numbers and quotas and a show of force than protecting actual humans.

"Having each other's backs" when the officer in question is oppressing, murdering, and abusing citizens IS encouraging it.

"I'm willing to support a fellow officer even when I know it's wrong."

Nope, nothing instutionally wrong with this at all! Cops are like a fraternity! You civvies will never understand.

Cops having each other's backs, even when they have done something wrong like killing someone unjustifiably, is exactly what people are talking about when they refer to the blue wall. How can police be trusted to protect us when they are too busy protecting their own, even other cops who illegally killed a black teenager for example?

I saw these versions too.

The hell it doesn't. It's a system where cops and CO's regularly face minimal consequences for very serious abuses.

can someone catch me up with a streamlined update? i dipped out of the thread early last night and it seems a lot has changed, but im at work and cant go through all the previous pages. what was the no fly zone about??

And again, it's not all the time and everywhere. Me saying "it happens" doesn't mean everyone does it.

However, throwing a fellow officer under the bus before he's been proven wrong isn't gonna happen.

In this day and age everything COs do is recorded (at least in federal). We literally have cameras everywhere and at least in the Federal Bureau of Prisons they don't hesitate to hammer the shit out of you and convict you for abuse.

What am I reading?

Which is the fault of the police. If the citizens feel oppressed by those that are supposed to protect then the police have failed.

And that's 100% correct. Which is why many departments are raising standards, using civilian review boards, and recording/videoing the actions of officers.

What am I reading?

You're reading that if a CO in the bureau of prisons abuses an inmate, he's done.

Oh ok I thought you meant police. I totally misread your post! Same should happen to cops. But sadly it doesn't.

It's the same disconnect they have regarding the state in general.

Yeah. It's sad really..

Reading articles about how the media chose to portray the dead teen is disgusting. Intentionally feeding stereotypes and subtly influencing people's perceptions.

lol you are literally what is wrong with america. ok not all of it but a good portion. if one of my coworkers shot an 18 year old kid and a witness came out claiming it was unprovoked you damn well better believe i'd throw him under the bus.

but keep equivocating, i'm sure you'll be proven right in the end.

Fuck man that really got me too. How can anybody defend this disgusting shit? There is NOTHING these innocent people can do against these piece of shit terrorists. If they try to fight back well we all know what will happen. Everybody needs to stand together to fight this shit.

own assult weapons and other fire arms just in case, have something recording your property. my father's house has three security cameras that run automatically and log into his pc. if i were some of the folks in Ferguson id be recording what was going on 24/7. id be filming whenever i was around these police.

Obama released a statement:

He'd better have plans to elaborate. Phuck the haters.

The articles about the media or articles from media outlets themselves?

It's like I've always said: it's divide-and-conquer. They profit from this. The citizens there recording on their phones are instantly more credible than the media.

I saw the video live on the stream yesterday. You're right, of course. The people need to stand up to the rampant police force. The problem is that black life is disposable and most people really don't fucking care if black kids get killed by police. Hell, we just saw last year that a sizeable amount of people don't fucking care if black kids get killed by civilians under the "right" circumstances.

I know. Just look at the studies that say the death penalty and the whole justice system is supported MORE when people learn it's racist towards blacks. It's fucking sad

Cops tells people to go home.
People go home, then stand in their yard in their rights.
Cops fire tear gas into yard.

then cops continue to tell people who already home to go home.. eeesh

I said it earlier in the thread, and it's semantics, but I believe the police meant for the people to be in their homes, not just standing in their yards.

thats not how police work. Stop making excuses for bullshit. Its us for now, but its sure as hell going to spread to everyone else in the nation. We need a overhaul/review/restart for the justice system and police training. Immediately. No more of this "well... im ok with all this brutality because you aren't listening to the police!" The police aren't here to brutalize all of us if we don't listen to every word they say. It shouldn't be excused, it should be held up for scrutiny.

Ok, and then don't get pissed when you get tear gassed when the large group of people don't disperse. If the police have lost their collective minds and are just firing blindly in the crowd, be my guest and stand outside and be a target instead of being inside where there is a certain level of safety.

This isn't about siding with the police at this point. It's about common sense and self preservation.

Everyone is posting conjecture and asking questions as to why. I was offering a possible reason. Calm down.

Your possible reasons don't make any sense. Its just a pathetic attempt at an excuse that doesn't hold up to reality, its just least likely conjecture vs more likely conjecture.

No this about about their right to fight back the only way they can against terrorists. The police have no right to fire tear gas at innocent people in their own fucking yard! Are you really defending this shit?

You are shameful apologist.
