Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Question concerning leaks and the game guide.

If there is an official Guide on day one I assume it will have unlocks and character details yes? If so we should probably expect that to leak early then? Is there any president for this?

I think this is often an expectation that isn't met. I vaguely remember some Nintendo-related Prima leak, but I don't think we've actually had a comprehensive leak from a strategy guide.

Yes it is, especially in Japan. It comes out in four weeks there. If they're going to meet the street date with any sort of real stock they must be ready to print. I think games usually start printing three weeks before release, if not earlier. So it can't be long now.

I'm surprised we haven't had any sort of leak yet.
we probably have and have been ignoring it

One of my favorite MiiVerse posts by far.

Also going to predict a stage tonight for tonight's potd

The actual, true leaks for Brawl were disbelieved until pretty much the last possible moment, so I don't anticipate the roster being firmly "known" until maybe a week or so before the 3DS release.

Gematsu Leak?

The Gematsu leak is one thing. And it was great that we got it the way we did and all the discussion it fueled. But since then and other than we haven't had anything else. Brawl had three notable leaks from different sources: The accidental reveal by Nintendo, the Dragoon Leak, and the actual roster leak. There was also the delay/Sonic leak. Whether people believed it or not, the information was coming out.

This isn't really the case for Smash 4. Not yet anyway. And maybe we won't even get a real leak before actual copies get out in the wild. I check SmashGAF compulsively trying to keep my finger on the pulse of new information, but we haven't had anything to debate about for a long time.

Unless you count the Smashboards leak set they've hobbled together, which I personally do not. Smashboards has an embarrassing history with determining the validity of leaks.

When did I start posting in these Smash threads frequently? That's when I lost control of my life
not true, I lost it when I joined GAF

But that's the thing: how do we know that the information's not coming out? Two of the major Brawl leaks came from anonymous threads on GameFAQs, didn't they? I wouldn't be surprised if the roster has actually been leaked already and we just don't know about it yet.

I suspect once the game's out people will find some gems if they comb through old threads searching using characters from the actual roster.

Sure, but what about its release?

If its out in japan won't we not have to wait for players to unlock anything if they can just pickup the guide and see who is in and how to get them. Giving us a comprehensive list immediately.

So I went back to the good 'ol Dojo site and checked what the last few updates were before the JP release.

The day before release he unveiled the starting roster. I kinda hope he doesn't do that the day before release again...also I forgot about that test video of an online match between Japan vs Kyoto! Interesting
Yet the online was still terrible

Just watch the movie, it moves pretty quick. You can always join up with us later. Plus there's tons of easter eggs, & the movie is just that good.

To be honest, I'm not a Marvel nut so I'll probably miss the Easter eggs, but I know I should just watch the movie. ;)

Weird, wonder why the schedule changed. That's roughly 2pm or so, Japan time, rather than the 4pm-ish that it used to be. I always assumed it was the last thing he did before he left work. Wonder what he's doing 2pm and later that needs his attention. "We're going GOLD" celebrations? :)

Yeah, I was wondering about that too and came to a similar conclusion. I sure hope that's what it is!

Haha, I know the feeling, trust me! I guess my inner cinephile is unable to use a phone in a movie theatre.

However, now that I've told you not to check, it's going to be some amazing Mega Man update...

That's exactly what it's going to be. Or the Chorus Kids, in a random newcomer PotD update. :P

This is honestly maybe the best Miiverse post I've ever seen, and it so perfectly describes m--
... so much of SmashGAF.

I just want to say again that Smashboards' image over here is way too skewed by the people in the Smash 4 forums. While there's plenty of idiots and such over there, the actually competitive players are really cool to talk with. Most of them are staying in their private places, though, because they too are bothered by all the new kids and their dumb behaviour.

In 30 minutes it's going to be one month until this game releases for the first time. Hold me SmashGaf, we're so close ;___;

Yeah, it's a pretty striking contrast between the people who mostly play and discuss the released games and the people who are mainly just engaged in hype for the upcoming games.

My wife doesn't even care any more at this point lol.
Haha, I think she's starting to just accept it now. Oddly enough, she actually has come to find it a little interesting and mentioned she found it impressive the game was able to have so many different types of character work within the same art style.

Sakurai would be proud of you lol.
I am his loyal knight. Long live the King.

"Oric, who is this Sakurai you keep looking up?!"
Haha! I read this in her voice and her calling me Oric weirded me out.

Haha! Please share.

He's definitely gotten my girlfriend mad at me before; if I'm sleeping over at her place, I have to choose my phone glances very carefully.

You can't just post this and not explain D:

Like I said, partially responsible.

I was about to be intimate with my girlfriend, when I got a text (I always keep my phone on for emergencies, but I forgot to put it on silent in this instance). I check my phone to see what the big deal is, and it's from my friend:

"SONIC IN BRAWL"

My girl wasn't pleased, and went to sleep. I didn't speak to him for a few days.

lol

Oh man, that's amazing. I would've probably asked to go check the website, so I probably would've been dumped. :P

My fiancée doesn't even care at this point, she understands. She's not an avid gamer like me but she likes and understands gaming, so it's not a big deal. Plus we've been together for eight years, so she was around for the Brawl Dojo updates and my crushing disappointment when Mega Man wasn't in any of them... which means she also knew exactly what it meant to me when Mega Man was revealed for Smash 4 and why I am accordingly even more hopelessly hyped for a new Smash game than I would normally be. She enjoys Smash on a once-in-awhile, casual level and will have fun with it when it comes out and keeps up (through me) with the big things like character reveals, but for everything in-between she just rolls her eyes and says "I'm just glad you have something you're so passionate about!"

I'm pretty lucky.

That's an amazing story... I'm sorry for your loss that night, though. :P

I don't think SmashGAF has ever made me laugh so hard in one night.

My girlfriend has played maybe 30 minutes of video games in her life, but she has a similar attitude. She just happy I'm passionate about something. Unfortunately, she also always wants me to explain what everything is and why it's exciting to me. Hearing myself explain Greninja's intro trailer out loud and then remembering I'm an adult was a good reality check for me.

I love you for this.
Haha, good, because I hate myself for it.

If Beef had been quick on his feet and not blinded by adrenaline, he could've just fibbed, "Oh, uh, my Uncle Sonic, he got in a brawl, I, uh, hope he's OK!" And then when she says, "You have an uncle named Sonic," you go "shh shh shh" and put your fingers on her lips: "No more talk now, only love."

I know this feeling all too well lol.

Hahaha, that's awesome. But hey, Greninja is pretty awesome no matter what age you are, so don't be too hard on yourself. ;)

My fianceé is something of an in-betweener. She was really active during the Super NES, N64, and Dreamcast days... her favorite game of all time is EarthBound (something she told me the night we met!... you can imagine how I felt about that) and she also loves stuff like Chrono Trigger, Ocarina of Time, Crazy Taxi, and Sonic Adventure.

She doesn't really keep up with modern gaming as much beyond the Ace Attorney and Professor Layton series and the occasional Zelda game (she's playing through The Wind Waker HD right now), but she's 100% onboard with why I'm so excited and is going to be helping me bake Smash logo cookies for my Smash Wii U launch party whenever the release date is announced. So, like I said, I'm pretty lucky. :)
